They just released the live version of RATATATA at FOX_FEST and is effing crazy, come back next time with that reaction if you want, pretty sure you're gonna love it. This is their breakout hit in 2014, for better or worse, either you hated or loved it, this MV got the highest amount of views on their channel, and fans were enjoying this song every night at the World Tour 2023/2024, is a hit they don't wanna miss in almost every live performance, hopefully you'll get the chance to see them live, don't miss out the opportunity to feel this experience next November with the US Tour. Dance choreography and metal has never seen before and an important part of this is thanks to Mikiko-Metal (aka Mikiko Mizuno) she's behind another famous Jpop group called Perfume and is very well respected sensei with her own group of dance Eleven Play, she was behind Olympic Games ceremony. And the mastermind behind this madness is KobaMetal. This MV isn't actually live version and not even with the usual Kami Band, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. Back in the day, before 2014 mainly, they used to have this backing band called "baby-bones" air playing instruments wearing this skeleton costumes, they didn't have the budget to afford a high level set of real musicians like they have now, so progressively since 2012 they incorporate the real band and leaving the baby-bones behind, they did a great job supporting the girls and giving a show, so shout-out to them for being part of BM story. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_ They're just singing about wanting to eat some chocolate but they worried about the weight just like any other regular girl, there's not so much hidden message behind, they used to have fun songs like these without so much deepness on the lyrics just to have fun and party, but the brutal contrast on this is remarkable, no doubt about it. Gimme Choko is Babymetal's most legendary (or infamous, depending who you ask) song. It is the song that went viral in 2014 and really brought them to the attention of the western metal world and led to them being moved to the main stage at Sonisphere 2014, which was their breakthrough live performance. There are a lot of mixed feelings about this song, because while it's kawaii and metal, it's leans pretty hard into the gimmick and doesn't really best showcase Su-metal's vocal range, and over the years has led to a lot of people (including myself initially) to write them off as nothing more than the gimmick. I always think that if more people saw Megitsune first, they would have a different initial opinion of Babymetal than if their first encounter was with Gimme Choko. The Mosh'sh pit is Babymetal's version of a mosh pit. The Mosh'sh pit is a less rough and more friendly version of a mosh pit that is more all ages friendly. At Babymetal headline shows in Japan, they have a section called the "Silent Mosh'sh Pit" which is for families with kids, people with disabilities and older people, or anyone who don't want to get knocked around by the usual mosh pit shenanigans. The skeleton guys are called Babybones. They were a group of performers who mimed playing the instruments during the early days when Babymetal couldn't afford to have a live band playing with them all the time. At the earliest Babymetal shows, they performed to a backing track and didn't have anyone on stage with them at all, as is pretty common for idol groups. They started using Babybones in April 2012, and used them on and off until February 2014, so Legend 1997 (held 12/21/2013) was one of the last appearances of Babybones before the Kami Band fully took over live duties with Babymetal. The ones in the skeleton costumes are just actors. They are not playing the instruments. The Kami Band comes on later during that same show. Initially Babymetal couldn't afford a full time band, so they had "Baby bones" acting for a backing track.

Many members of The One will say that this song isn't among BABYMETAL's best - I beg to differ. Although BABYMETAL does have many songs that are better, this song defines what BABYMETAL is: heavy metal pleasantly mixed with J-pop without missing a beat - kawaii metal at its best, and one of the best videos of the "Yui Era". But, yeah those instrumentals are very, very metal and the juxtaposition with the cute vocals, lyrics and choreo was totally the point of the song and the reason why this music video went viral back in 2014. Helping them a lot tbh. It's their most "popular" song but probably not their best one. This music video has the studio version of the audio over the visuals from the concert Legend 1997 held to celebrate Su-metal's (the lead singer) 16th birthday. It was the song's live premiere. The guys in skeleton costumes (called "babybones") were there pretending to play the instruments while the music was in a backing track (Su-metal always sing live). It was like this because they couldn't afford and actual band at first. The real Kami Band was introduced progressively since October 2012 and they replaced the "babybones" for good since March 2014. "What is the statue?" Oh boy! Long story short: this was Su-metal's 16th birthday party. The whole concert was an allegory about their transition from a J-pop idol group subunit to a legit metal band. There is a subjacent "Evangelion" theme in this concert. They opened with a song called "Ellens dritter Gesang" ("Ellen's Third Song") composed by Franz Schubert. The piece is commonly known as Schubert's "Ave Maria". So, it's probably a representation of the Virgin Mary probably with Su's appearance, but idk. This was the first video I saw of BabyMetal back in 2014 when they first went viral outside Japan. If I'm honest at the time, and still today, I preferred Ijime, Dame, Zettai (which you may want to check before you move on but your call obviously) but we have to thank this one for bringing them to the world. As others have said if it's the skeletons, BabyBones, then they're singing live to backing tracks if it's the Kami Band they're singing/playing live. On this video I believe while it's from a live performance the studio audio was overlayed. Don't shout at me if I'm wrong 🙏

Supported Babymetal in the early days as they did not have budget for full band. *Kami East:* Started supporting Babymetal in 2012 for Encores only, then fully in 2014 (e.g., this show is from Legend 1997, Dec 2013 - 1st 9 songs with Babybones, 5 encore songs with Kami East). They wore white robes/corpse paint, later transitioned to black robes and masks when Kami West were added. Ah the skeletons, Babybones as they're known. Babybones don't actually play the instruments, they're just miming. When Babymetal came out they operated on a shoestring. Long story short, they couldn't afford a band. When this video was recorded, they were still a couple months away from releasing their debut album. The Kami band arrived about a year previous to this, and would appear on and off as the money allowed. They would close this show by playing the last three songs. If I remember, this is the last appearance of Babybones on stage save for a TV show which had both Babybones and the Kami live. After this it was all Kami, except one appearance in England. Babymetal won an award from a metal magazine, but could not afford to fly the Kami to Europe, do Dragonforce graciously stepped in to provide the music. This was 2015. Awadama Fever is one of my favorite songs off the second album. It's a clapback song; the girls were at the time taking flak for being bubble-gum metal, and their response was Awadama Fever, a song about magic bubble gum that will take you wherever you want if you had a dream. And turned the cuteness to 11, like take that haters.

Altho not my fave, I still consider it classic Babymetal and essential to understanding the group. Oh no, one more kawaii please! Babymetal "Onedari Daisakussen"👊🦊✌️
