It's hard not to smile at this. This is probably one of their "meme-iest" songs, and it can turn a lot of people off if it's their only exposure to the band. They have a ton of different songs that play around with various metal styles. Honestly when I first heard this back when it went viral I dismissed it as a gimmick group but the music is seriously good and the girls actually bust their butts, it's not phoned or lazy clickbait.

Totally agree. There are a lot of music reactors who started with this song and don't do any more Babymetal. Not to say it's a bad song, indeed, it seems to be a fan favorite. It's pieces of media like this that reinforce the idea that you have to see/hear/read 3 or 4 examples before making a judgement.

"I would not listen to this on my free time." I said the same thing back in 2014 when I first watched this exact video!. I'm a 51 year old grumpy American guy and I have been listening to BABYMETAL...EVERY...DAMN..DAY.. since 2019! In my opinion, their songs only get better and more appealing to our brains! This song is their biggest "WTF!!!" song which is why it went viral and why it's so confusing to first time listener's brains. I REALLY hope you watch their other songs. My favorite is "Akatsuki live at Budokan Black Night" from 2014, or "Karate live at Download UK 2016". 🤘🦊🤘

You have never reacted to "similar" bands.. ever. This is called Kawaii-metal, a genre they created. this (GIVE ME CHOCOLATE) is the narrowest gate into the garden that is BABYMETAL. This is also a LONG, LONG time ago and their catalog is expansive and eclectic. I DO listen every day to BABYMETAL and have attended their live show here in Charlotte NC. I am a musician myself, play 6, 7 and 12 string guitars, 4, 5 and 6 string basses (not to mention stand up), mandolin, keyboards, piano and Tuba, I sing, write, arrange, produce, engineer and have been playing since I was 6, started my first band at 14 and have thousands of hours onstage. I only relate this to emphasize that I KNOW music. I have lived, ate and breathed hard rock and metal for over 40 years and I can say without a doubt that BABYMETAL is, hands down, my favorite band ever. They literally hold 30 of the top 40 places in my 100 favorite songs list, and its because every single moment of instrumental composition and performance, choreography, vocals and concept are as flawless as a human can achieve, and in concert there are dozens of key members of the production team achieving that level of impossible perfection. Kitsune dao!

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊I have seen some of your previous reactions to some of my old favourites like early Genesis and others who I grew up with in the 70s and 80s ... it is good to see you have now discovered my favourite band of all time - yes, I am saying that with an entirely straight face. No other band has provided me with the same degree of entertainment or made me enjoy music and their performances as much or as well as BABYMETAL. 'Gimme Chocolate' is not typical of their work - and yet in many ways it is. It is the song that went viral and got them noticed, but that is mainly for the shock value and that it makes peoples' brains melt. It can go either way and is not the song I would recommend to anybody as the first thing they hear from them. I am glad that you are open to exploring more - you will struggle to find another song quite like it. Also this is the official video, so the audio is from the studio ... BABYMETAL are so much better live (as I hope you will discover for yourselves). They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (as you saw for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal). No they don't play the instruments, just like most vocalists in other bands - they don't need to. They do what they do best and have the best musicians to be found in Japan backing them up (more on them later). Nobody has been able to do what BABYMETAL do (some have tried, none came close). They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and, since the start of this month, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in). The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues. After Yui left Su and Moa continued as a duo through to their 10th anniversary and a bit beyond, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member on 1st April this year. They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was set up by the Amuse talent agency as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan). BABYMETAL was the pet project of one metalhead producer who was inspired to experiment with this fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics after seeing Su-metal singing with her previous JPop trio and being very impressed with her no holds barred singing stlye and stage presence - she was only 10 or 11 at that time. He pictured her fronting a metal band and got his chance to work with her when her previous group ended and she joined Sakura Gakuin. In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right. BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too. Early on they did not have enough budget for a live band and the guys in skeleton suits (called Babybones) who you saw in this video would go on stage just for show, miming the instruments to pre-recorded backing tracks (Su-metal's singing is always live). They were phased out bit by bit after it had been decided BABYMETAL would split from Sakura Gakuin, so a live band (I will tell you about them in a moment) played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows from October 2012. This video was filmed at the last big concert (Legend 1997 in December 2013 - the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday ... she was born in 1997, this was her birthday party) where the Babybones appeared - the live band (the Kami Band) came on for the last 5 songs. They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami band as they all have their own bands or other commitments and they swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have played the vast majority of concerts and they are the ones you will see in most live performance videos. The Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions. The Kami Band of the West - American musicians - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019. BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves. If you do want to do more reactions RAH22 has given some good suggestions.

Genesis was one of my favorite bands early on, too… recently picked up vinyls of Selling England by the Pound and Foxtrot. Gimme Chocolate is BABYMETAL’s most cutting edge song imo… both the metal and the pop are full on… it’s something else.

@@kevinhiggins7838 I saw Genesis many times live, always great shows. Two great albums - 'Selling England...' was my favourite. I still have all the vinyls - nothing to play them on. 'Gimme Chocolate' is a great song at live shows, it just isn't always the best song for people to hear first. It intrigues some, it turns as many off. I would recommend it a few songs in personally.

@@Grington300 Never saw Genesis live… would have loved to though. You have all the vinyls… wow! Hrmm thinking now… I have those two plus Live and Nursery Chryme. Maybe one day I’ll get Lamb Lies Down. I’ll consider my Genesis collection complete at that point, though Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering I like a lot too (that title always reminds me of Kate Bush.) Anyway, I think saying something is cutting edge implies it may not be the best intro to a band… though it worked wonders for me.
@Grington300
@Grington300 Жыл бұрын
@@kevinhiggins7838 Everything up to and including Wind & Wuthering are worth having. It was after that Steve Hackett left and they "changed direction" - although they were still good live and played a lot of the older stuff even after then. Kate Bush was from not too many miles from me originally. Yes that is fair with 'cutting edge' ... it works as an intro for many (like you) but not for as many again.

Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL started back in 2010 and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey 🦊🤘🔥 Now they got a metalverse but that's a more recent era so highly recommend to just wait to get there but in case you wanna know, they already released 5 singles from the new album "The Other One". This month they started live concerts at Sabaton's Europe Tour as a special guests and everyone is having a blast with this song, either you hate or love it, is a song with crazy amount of views and they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist. Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey. However this isn't actually live version, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_ Some recommendations for next songs like: - _"Road Of Resistance"_ live in Japan official. - _Catch Me If You Can_ live at Budokan 2014 (you got a safe to react version with subtitles at GuilhermeCait channel) or... - _Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!_ live at this same live performance Legend 1997 in Makuhari Messe Japan when SuMetal is celebrating her birthday becoming a metal goddess queen and leaving her idol jpop form (you can find one at Gans Tomas channel under "Head Bangya" title). You have more than 50 songs and still more to come. Amuse their label is very hard to deal so if you want to avoid copyright blocked you have *Babymetal Reactor Resource* channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them. See you next time! 🦊🤘🔥

I've watched you guys' reactions to Dream Theater before and enjoyed them, this was a treat! I'm a new Babymetal fan of just 5 months and I'm in deep. A lot of folks will hit you with a barrage of information so I'll just share a quick version of my own thoughts and observations! babymetal is the sum of many moving parts, all of which are very high level talent. Gimme chocolate is one of the harshest dichotomy of sounds between the J pop and metal, so if you didn't completely hate this one you will become a fan very easily! No two songs sound alike. Their live performances are top movie level productions. They started before they were even teenagers. The choreography is always deliberately acting out the story being told in the song. They have silly songs like this but they have way more serious songs with extremely powerful messages! They are now mid 20s and just released a new incredible album. They are currently doing a world tour. I would think a good next reaction for y'all to do is Road of Resistance live in Japan.

My introduction to Babymetal was on Late Night with Steven Colbert believe it or not. He introduced them saying he had no idea what we were in store for. Combining two styles of music I really had no interest in previously...I've never particularly liked Heavy Metal and never listened to J-Pop (or K-Pop)...for me it just works. Yes, the young female voices are shocking at first after the Metal music intro, but they are undoubtedly skilled performers so once you get used to it you can appreciate it. I became a fan and instantly searched KZfaq for more. I don't like every song but there are several great tunes.

They are a Japanese "Idol" group, which usually means a group that sings J-Pop and dances and whose members frequently change (they "graduate"). Babymetal is one of the pioneers of alternative idol which are groups keeping the idol format but performing un-idol musical styles . They are groups with names like Broken by the Scream and Necronomidol. By the way, Marty Friedman has interviewed Babymetal on Japanese TV. They have evolved, the lead singer Su-metal has said they now compose songs more like a band rather than like an idol group. They are also very un-idol like in that two members, Su-metal and Moametal, have been in the group since 2010. You should jump forward and see what they are doing now with songs like "Metalizm" and "Monochrome". They are doing a US tour this year in a dual head-liner tour with Dethklok a band that is an animated death metal band on Adult Swim. (Yes, they are also a live band),, The tour is the BABYKLOK TOUR.

I like the honesty, but what I will never understand is why only Babymetal is expected to have their singers play instruments, while it seems to be normal for thousands of other bands that singers don't play instruments. Think about it! But that's just by the way. This was really a great first reaction.
@oneearrabbit

Because that’s the tradition in metal music. Even the singers who don’t play an instrument like Ozzy they are still considered part of the band, and while the Kami Band and Babymetal are inseparable people who don’t understand or like the music see them as separate entities with the band being a band and the girls as just pop singers so to them it seems “lesser”.

In my opinion Baby Metal has, above all, an amazing story. 3 young Japanese girls in an unfamiliar and at first, kind of scary, genre. They not only overcame thier fears, but created their own Metal Sub-Genre. They've created a space in Metal for young women and have even bridged the East/West gap. There's a reason other musicians talk about them. Follow The Foxhole, you will not regret it.

I just travelled 500 mile round trip 7 hours each way on a coach to see them at Wembley Arena in London on 15th April they where special guests of Sabaton. 3 rd time i made this trip to see them . Just heard last week they are coming back in November 2 back to back shows on 27th 28th got tickets for both nights so another long journey awaits . This is not their best song but it's great fun you need to see the fans go nuts when the intro starts . Noticed Metallica on the wall they opened for Metallica, and you mentioned Marty Friedman who is a fan of them and has interviewed them . I have seen many Metal bands Iron Maiden to AC-DC , Def Leppard and many more from when metal scene started but none gave me the happiness i get from BabyMetal . The Red Hot Chili Pepper performed this song with them. 4. They are buds with Metallica and Slipknot 5. They had a cameo in Corey Taylor's video 6. They performed the Judas Priest classics Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest 7. They are the only Asian group to ever hit #1 on Billboards Top Rock chart. 8. BabyMetal and Black Pink are the only albums by girl groups in history to enter the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Year End Chart. 9. In a recent interview Corey Taylor of Slipknot was asked who he listened to at home and he said "BabyMetal" 10. In 2015 Vogue Magazine Japan named them Women of The Year. As for what to watch next: 1. Head Banger - Legend of 1997 - your will have to change your entire concept of audience reaction. Your headphones will fly off your head. 2. Road of Resistance Live in Japan - Generally considered one of the finest recordings of a live performance ever by anyone. 3. Pa Pa Ya feat. F. Welcome to the foxhole. Nice honest reaction that many others have had as well. I don't get the, "they don't play instruments" comment as well. Never did get why that's an issue. Literally thousands of groups out there where the singer doesn't play any instruments ever. Moving on. This song is the let's see folks strain their brain try to figure this out. Start with a comment their lead singer said. "Don't Think, Feel". Many people when they listen to a song or band for the first time want to say oh this is like this song or that band. And put it all in a nice box. For over 10 years Babymetal has refused to be put into a box. even boxes they created. When they started their music genre which started with them was Kawaii Metal. Kawaii means cute in Japanese and it's a whole cultural vibe there. Basically, it's Jpop sytle vocal over a metal base with whatever genre or genres they feel like putting in the mix. Now folks say ok Babymetal is Kawaii Metal and that's that. To which most Babymetal fans will say "Not So Fast". That may have been applicable 10 years ago. But not anymore. Since they started when Su was 12 and Moa and Yui were 10. This band has grown and matured a lot since then. While I normally ask folks to start with their early stuff so they can grow with the band. Literally since they were so young. Now so folks can see Babymetal is far more than any other band out there. I suggest going back and forth. I kind of Babymetal then. And a Babymetal now. Especially their live performances. And even interviews. Where they are both humble and gracious. One of the things you'll often hear about Babymetal is because it makes me happy. Do you really need any other reason to watch a band live? Babymetal is everything you want in music and somethings you didn't know you needed. Kitsunes UP.🦊🦊🦊

@@NicknLex I saw the Warning years ago when they first got on youtube. I still watch them. But their live doesn't compare. Also, I've found for me three-piece band's sound a little empty. There are those bands that overcame that for me. Like Rush. But mostly I need a fuller sound. I listen to a lot of music styles. Big Band included. Which is why I like a fuller sound. I think of when the Warning covered Metallic. It was good but something was missing. Yup another guitar. Not fault of their own. They do the best with what they got. This is just how I feel about bands that small. Outside of that yes, they're a talented bunch. And I do listen to them from time to time. Watched a whole lot of them when they started out just kids. Now getting all grown up. Making me feel old now.

@@stevechevy3382, totally get the need for a fuller sound! Although, another trio of note is Asterism. They give me a sense of filling more space than a trio should be able to do. And now that Hal-CA has been doing some unexpectedly good vocals, there's an added dimension.

This is not usually recommended for people new to this band - imo it's often jokers who recommend this first - it does BM very few favours, if there's a chance of a bad initial reaction it'll be from this video. if you survive this (I do like it) then do continue - they are VERYVERY different and no song tends to be remotely the same despite being distinctive. They're quite astonishing and have been around for well over 10yrs now - this is very early although it came from a brilliant concert - legend of 97 - which is breathtaking. They're unique and have been so for over 10 yrs. It's referred to as "Kawaii metal" and I'm pretty sur ethey pretty much came up with this "genre" - but the only thing you can guarantee with them is there'll be metal in there. Expect the unexpected - a lot of their stuff is VERY heavy

The girls are now in their 20s, and Babymetal is still going strong with a recent concept album release. The term Babymetal comes from a pun, as heavy and baby are spelled and pronounced similarly in Japanese, and because they formed a new genre of metal they called kawaii metal that combines Japanese pop and metal, and pretty much anything else they want to include in their fusion of metal. The sound of the band is as about as dynamic and diverse as you can get, even from album to album. The first album was experimentation to find their sound, and the following albums was how that experimentation became apart of their sound. I know people are probably requesting quite a lot of songs, so I will limit my suggestion to one: A performance of their song BxMxC, off their third album, performed at a TV broadcast of NHK SONGS OF TOKYO 2020. There's a pretty good interview with the girls on it as well if you watch the one uploaded by Babymetal Tube.

Love this reaction, and I would really love to see you guys reacting to more I appreciate the honesty and you were super respectful and open minded amazing reaction 👍 Give me Chocolate is a hard song (double-edged sword literally) because it's very controversial like you love it or you hate it, or at least you don't know what to feel exactly it's very confusing I was one of those people who didn't know what to feel 😂 and was asking myself: "Is that what this band is all about? No way too many people love them, there needs to be more than what I think". And man if it wasn't for this song I probably would never got into BABYMETAL, after this song I checked Headbanger, Megitsune and Ijime, Dame, Zettai I believe in this order and more and more I fell into the Fox Hole and found out how unbelievable this band is.

Pretty much listen to anything Metal/Prog/Fusion/Jazz/Rock/Pop/Instrumental etc. We both grew up in the States (Lex)and Germany(Nick) and lived in Mexico at the beach as teenagers into our twenties. No musical exposure for over ten years there( they just don't sell good music there) That's why we are catching up. We did grow up with Classical music and jazz and went to music school. Pretty much the only things you could buy was Zeppelin/Floyd/Eagles/Metallica/Maiden. Just Ultra big bands. These are bands we don't react to, making us a smaller channel. Good reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. Yeah... probably not the best song to get introduced to BABYMETAL because of its huge WTF factor due to the extreme juxtaposition of the metal instrumentals and the cute vocals. Well, in the end of the day, their genre is called kawaii (cute) metal for a reason. 😁 But mostly because of this being a fun song and the fact it doesn't showcase Su-metal's (the lead vocalist) real potential as a singer. Also keep in mind this is from 2013 and you listened to the studio track. Surprisingly, they sound way better live. Okay, not surprisingly to be fair. It's because of the Kami Band (their live band) and Su-metal's skills singing live. They are a fusion of metal with J-pop elements and one of their most important traits are their musical diversity. No two songs sounds the same and they like to mix many music genres with many metal sub-genres. So, always expect the unexpected! I discovered them in late 2019 while watching reaction videos. Yes, I play their songs full blast in my car. And I'm seeing them live for the first time exactly in a week. Here go some suggestions: "Road of Resistance" (Live in Japan): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLp1jLh3zLLalY0.html "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6ujgsR-x7Sqp6s.html "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html Until next time! 🤘🦊

So this song is the most dramatic song they have I think in terms of JPop mixed with metal. I'd HIGHLY recommend checking out other songs of theirs. None of the girls do growls, but they are a good band and even IF in the end you decide you don't like them, they ARE worth knowing a little bit about since it is BECAUSE of Babymetal that all these other Japanese metal bands are getting the exposure they are getting. So bands like Bandmaid, Wagakki band, Nemophila, and many others all owe their exposure to a great deal to Babymetal. They have been the catalyst that has brought interest from outside of Japan. Regardless though, the Babymetal community is a good community. We're here to help you out, and even if you decide you don't like the band, as long as you stay respectful, which you seem to be doing, we'll be happy since at least you gave them a shot. That being said, I think in the end you're going to like them once you listen to some of their other tracks like Megitsune, Headbanger, Rondo of Nightmare, Road of Resistance, Shine. These girls are full of heart, soul, fun, and smiles. The lead singer is amazingly talented, which is hard to tell from just this song, however, you'll notice that although she doesn't do as much dancing as the 2 other girls, she is still doing a lot of dancing and stuff WHILE singing. She does that AND still has a crystal clear voice. I'm not sure if you've ever tried jogging and talking or singing at the same time, but it isn't an easy thing to do. She's also very good at portraying emotions through her singing. There are many reactors who've cried from some of the songs she has sung (not saying you will for sure, but you'll probably be able to feel the emotion at the very least). For songs like that I'd recommend Akatsuki Unfinished, No Rain No Rainbow Legend -S Baptism XX. No matter what you decide to do if you react to more, you're going to find something different. This band prides itself on having no 2 songs sound alike. They love experimenting and mixing things up. Literally. For instance, there are over 3 versions of their song Headbanger. Two of those 3 sounds radically different from one another, almost 2 different songs even. Almost. If you'd like to check that out, then I'd recommend Headbanger Legend 1997, and BabyMetal Legend of 1997 'Headbanger' Night of 15 Mix ヘドバンギャー!! Night of 15 mix. So explore a bit and enjoy your trip lol

Most people react much the same as you did upon first exposure to BABYMETAL - especially if their introduction is Gimme Chocolate!! or one of their earlier songs, but many people quickly become fans after getting more BABYMETAL under their belt. Also, bear in mind that this group as of now has been around for 13 years (the Gimme Chocolate!! clip you just watched was put out in 2014) and the group has very much evolved into full fledged metal greatness at this stage. They just released their 4th studio album called "The Other One," and are now touring in Europe with Sabaton and very soon in North America with Dethklok. Though you may not see yourself listening to Gimme Chocolate on a regular basis, you might feel otherwise about some of their other material, especially their more recent material, as a lot of it is frankly just bad ass and highly listenable. Plus BABYMETAL are legendary for putting on some of the best live shows in the world today, and are definitely a band to see live. I'm sure some other commenters here will point you to some other songs/clips, but if you need recommendations, especially for more recent stuff, just ask. Otherwise, just enjoy your trip down the foxhole.

I discovered them in 2014 with the exact same song. I was so intrigued and shocked,I had to see what else they had. At the time they only had a few official videos, but I was so intrigued I looked up live videos. That's when I found out they were on tour in Europe and later in the US. I had to see them for myself! I went to my first BABYMETAL concert in NYC in November 2014 and over been a hardcore fan ever since, gone to 20 shows including Tokyo Dome in Japan. They are addictive!! The thing about BABYMETAL is that every single song is unique and different. You can't pigeonhole them into one category. They do everything from Thrash metal and Power Metal, to Prog metal, EDM, rap, Latin, Indian, Arabian, pirate shanty metal, Djent, Nümetal. They've done collaborations with members of Polyphia, Arch Enemy, Sabaton, Thai rapper F. Hero, Bring Me The Horizon, and even a on stage performance with Rob Halford of Judas Priest. They started in 2010 when they were 12 and 10 years old. They are now in their twenties. Their early music was very tongue in cheek and cutesy (like Gimme Chocolate) with themes about young girls subjects and school subjects. Their second album changed a bit of direction with more mature songs and themes, with uplifting and encouraging songs. Their third album delved into international sounds, like Latin, Indian, and other styles. They were more fun, festive and some heartfelt emotional songs. This fourth album they just released is a concept album with a very heavy progressive sound and the same uplifting message in their lyrics but with a much more mature approach than before. Here are my recommendations: Headbanger. Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere. Karate. Syncopation. Shine. BxMxC Devine Attack (Shingeki) Monochrome. That's a little bit from each album. Have fun on this journey.

This is the best kind of reaction. Where you are still on the fence. I know I was when I heard this. Loved the uniqueness, respected how it was different from anything I'd seen or heard. But after you get past this buzz-song, the submerged part of BABYMETAL's iceberg will definitely take you off guard even more. At first, you will question how can this work, then how can this be this good, to then realize it's probably one of the best and most unique metal bands of all time. Trust me, if you stick long enough with this band, there's a good chance you will end up remembering the day you first heard this song as a turning point in your life. There is literally no band like them. Almost because anyone else trying to do what they're doing would invariably fail.

I usually listen to progressive rock/metal (think Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Haken, Riverside) and BABYMETAL sits fairly comfortably into my daily listening because they have a tremendous amount of variety in their music. I've seen them live, will make an effort to catch them on their current world tour and would recommend the experience to everyone, especially if you like a little cardio thrown in for free. I'm finding Japanese music in general to be very rewarding. They like to focus on melody, and are not shy when it comes to complex compositions and obliterating genre boundaries. There's often a strong jazz element to the music and a lot of effort goes into making live shows entertaining. Oddly enough, it's the (alternative) idol groups that seem to be making some of the most interesting music. Not being tied to the traditional band format seems to give them a lot more freedom. And if you really must see fingers on fret boards, there are plenty of very adventurous groups to explore. I'd certainly recommend checking out a few more BABYMETAL tracks. They're probably worth a deep dive, but Mirror Mirror, Monochrome, Brand New Day and Rondo of Nightmare would be my initial picks. If you want to see their full-on prog track, go directly to Tales of the Destinies. (Just be aware you'll probably need to obscure the video content.) If you're looking for another Japanese band to try, Gacharic Spin are currently inviting reaction videos for their new single, Kachi-kachi Yama. It's as mad as a box of frogs, in a good way.

I would suggest listening to more stuff, while this was there first big hit, it is somewhat different from their other stuff, although nearly all of it is a fusion of styles, sometimes mixing in traditional Japanese stuff into metal and jpop... As they grew older their singing also improved. They say the name BabyMetal isn't really about the girls ages, arguably that would be offensive as they aren't infants. It is apparently sort of a Japanese pun. Heavy and Baby in Japanese rhyme ... The Baby aspect is not so much about age in Japanese it is often used to mean cuteness or "KawiI" ... so in that respect BabyMetal litterally means Kawii Metal (which is the name of the genre), the baby also suggests they have created a new form of metal. They are well liked among many of the big names in Metal, Rob Zombie and Halford are huge fans of theirs. They have done a number of collaborations with big name artists both Eastern and Western. They are currently opening for Sabaton on the European leg of their tour, Sabaton are on the record as supporters of BabyMetal and Joakim Brodén did a guest vocal on their track "Oh! Majinai"

Strange...... but interesting once you get past the shock. Kami band are crazy good. Have my tickets already for this summer. But, if you want to see ladies actually playing metal themselves expertly, Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. They are outstanding, will shock you!
