Reaction & Review of BABYMETAL - HEADBANGER LIVE at AT BUDOKAN BLACK NIGHT 2014
Back with Babymetal. I was so suprised when i initialy saw this band and a little confused as to why i liked them so much. Kawaii metal in theory just shouldnt work and yet it does. This live performance of 'Headbanger' truly shows the huge following they have and how they capture their entire audiance and crowd at a live event. Simply electrifying!

Suzuka Nakamoto's voice is why Babymetal exists. Their producer realized her voice was too strong for Jpop , he being a Heavy Metal fan recognized Su could sing right through metal music. So we have Babymetal to love and admire.

As has been said before: "It ain't over until the skinny girl hits the gong." You mentioned the kamiband being just in the background due to all eyes on the girls. They often get their own moment to shine in the larger/longer shows. But in an interview back in 2014, BOH (6-string bassist) was saying how they knew this and were fine with it. In part it didn't matter because he knew the fans know each kamiband member by name. Same interview he mentioned his instructions from the producer on how to approach playing metal backing for the girls. First requirement had always been to be technical, but after that the producer (Kobametal) told them "never mind that they are Idols, just play as loud and heavy as you can." Comments on Babymetal reactions are usually very long. So one last bit I haven't seen mentioned (sorry if repeated). The kamiband is not a fixed group of people. The form of 2 lead guitars, bass and drums is always the same but different musicians rotate through. In Japan, they are all top notch session musicians who love to shred on-stage. But they have many different projects and some are in other bands. And not just metal. (If you like jazz fusion, check out 3 of them as the "Kari Band".) There have been regulars. Ok, will leave it at that. See comment from "emperor chop chop" for what to react to next. Great reaction!

"With the legendary long black hair gorgeously disordered, this crazy blooming flower will soon fruitlessly disappear. Now the time has come. I no longer hesitate. I tightly hold my discount railway tickets. To the east, to the west, to the south, to the north. Today I rush to the very front of stage center. On the left side, on the right side, standing up still, leaning back, jumping toward the stage, leaning over the fence, rolling over the crowd, and then all deeply headbanging. This special night of my fifteen I'll never forget. All the crybabies, get out of here! It'll never come again and it goes by so fast. I etch in my heart this special night of my fifteen." Headbanger is my second favorite BABYMETAL song. I caught the show in DC back in September, it was the third show of the US tour so we already knew what they had been playing for a setlist, but we were surprised they were playing this song because they hadn't for a while. They played this song and it was amazing. The whole show was mind blowing. They are truly one of the best live performing bands in the world today. Su sounds near flawless, Moa and the "avengers" choreography is mesmerizing and executed with such astonishing precision, the "Amerikami" Band (the Japanese Kamis were all tied up with their own projects so they toured with American musicians for the first time ever) were really tight and played so well. You really couldn't ask for a better show to go to. My only complaint was that I wanted it to be longer. That's it. Everything else was perfect. If you get a chance, go see them. You have to!

I subscribed after your 'Gimme Chocolate' reaction, that really isn't their best song by a long way (even though it has the most views and got them noticed) so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed when you saw a real live performance and heard Su-metal without the studio effects compressing her voice. They always break out the "Freddie Mercury mic stand" for 'Headbanger'. It was Yuimetal who left the band a year ago and it was a year before then that she last appeared on stage. They have 3 'Avengers' taking turns to dance in her place this year. The Nippon Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The Beatles were the first band ever to perform there and it is considered a very prestigious venue for any band to play. BABYMETAL sold it out for 2 nights running in 2014 - Su-metal had just turned 16, Yuimetal and Moametal were 14 and they were (and still are I think) the youngest average age female band to headline there. For your next reactions I would recommend 'Rondo of Nightmare' with 'The Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' intro (live at Budokan black night, so the same show as this. That will let you see the Kami Band and appreciate their individual talents as well as 'Rondo' being one of Su-metal's solo songs - and you will really get to appreciate her voice and talents, especially when you consider she was only 16 at the time. I would also recommend a 'Black BABYMETAL' song - that is a song performed by Yuimetal and Moametal as a duo without Su-metal. That way you'll also get to appreciate they are more than just dancers and backing singers. The song I would suggest is '4 No Uta' (or 'Song 4') for which Yui and Moa have full writing credits for lyrics and music (but not the arrangement). They wrote the song on the tour bus when they visited Singapore when they were 12 and Su gave them the subject of the number 4 to write a song about - in Japan 4 is considered very unlucky and is associated with death, in the song they dispel that as superstition - and they really have fun doing it. Any live performance of that which you can find (live at Budokan, live at Legend 2015, live at Wembley - I'm not sure which might be easiest to find) they are all good.

I was blown away by your honest reaction. I was also hoping you picked another version of this song, live, with the Kami Band playing all their instruments. The best video is: *Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL)* Translates to "no more bullying forever" This was their 1st breakthrough concert , outside of Asia The girls were warned before they went on stage at this hard core metal concert, with al the most hardest metal groups in the world, if they were not liked, the crowd will book you off the stage or worse yet, Bottle you off, with bottles of PISS Knowing this the girls said, "lets roll" and by the 2nd song Give Me Chocolate, SU METAL had those hard core, brash, ole salty metal heads ,. eating out of her hand. !!! She could have said anything and they would have done it !! 55,000- 65,000 FANS this song being at the end of the 5 song set, yelling WE WANT MORE...... *Please react to this*

They are coming to Europe and the UK in 2020. It was Yuimetal who left for medical reasons. Her last performance was in October of 2017, she officically left in September of 2018 after she was unable to get her health back to performance level. They kept the Triangle formations but use 3 rotational dancers they call "The Avengers", Riho Sayashi (21), Momoko Okazaki (16), and Kano Fujihira (15). They act only as dancers and do not sing. Though the rotation is technically random Riho and Momoko are used more often because Kano is currently in 2 other groups. One of which is Sakura Gakuin the developmental Idol group Babymetal came from. Momoko graduated from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2018, Riho came from a separate idol group not related to Babymetal. However, Riho and Sumetal (Suzuka) did go to the same Junior high school with her. It is also a performing arts school called Acting School Hiroshima or ASH for short. In the music video for Elevator Girl, Pa Pa Ya, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Avenger Kano. Also please react to Road of Resistance Live in Japan. It's one of the few videos you can play in full without getting a copyright strike.

Also, the OG trio of girls we know and love are Sumetal, Yuimetal and Moametal. Su was born on december 1997 while the other two were born around July 1999. So there's a 1.5 years difference between them. You can easily do the maths of their ages when reviewing their live performances from now on. 2014 so the girls were 16, 15 and 15. The band was formed in October 2010, back when they were 12-13, 11 and 11. Actually, 2 days ago marked the 9th anniversary of the recording of their first ever song "Doki Doki Morning". At the time, there was no long-term plan for the band as it was merely a fun side-project for their Sakura Gakuin Idol school group. They just grew and grew thanks to their talent, the backing band and all of the talent of the people behind the scenes (music producers, Koba and ofcourse Mikiko who is their famous choreographer - the best in Japan). The turn of 2018 was a very dark time for the band as one of their seasonned beloved guitarist Mikio died on Januari 2018. On October 2018, after a whole year of absence due to health issues, Yuimetal decided to leave the band, it was a very sad times for everyone. 2019 marks a new era in BABYMETAL as the band now focuses on the duo of Sumetal and Moametal while using 3 rotating girls to replace Yui's spot in the trio, affectionately called "Avengers" by the fans. The loss of Yui still hits very hard to the heart of the fans because unlike most idol bands, this was already a long-lasting beautiful relationship between 3 friends who'd known eachother for the better part of a decade. But hey, as BABYMETAL says, always move forward.

Mikiko is the choreographer. She is also the choreographer behind Perfume, and that group has the most stunning CGI multimedia stage show. Then there is Elevenplay that is a very high tech dance troop and something you have to see. Then Mikiko did the ceremonies for the Rio Olympics. Perfume is under the AMUSE umbrella and can be looked at as the Pre Babymetal, they have been around longer and have the same basic framework by the same organization.

I was looking forward to this. You already have a very good understanding of this band, especially considering that this was only your second song. It's so satisfying to see them making people smile. :-) Moametal is still with them, it's Yuimetal who left. They don't have a real replacement (yet?), there are three different new girls called the Avengers that are filling the third spot on rotation. BABYMETAL crowds are always fantastic, they are like an additional band member. Since you enjoy the crowd interaction so much, the obvious recommendation for another reaction would be "Road of Resistance": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLp1jLh3zLLalY0.html. A couple tidbits which I didn't find while scrolling through the older comments: 1) All three girls started out in the entertainment industry at young ages. Su-metal was in two groups before BABYMETAL (Karen Girl's and Sakura Gakuin; the latter seems to serve as AMUSE's training ground for new talent). Moa-metal and Yui-metal were also in SG, which is where Koba-metal found them. 2) The live performance you watched here was the second of a pair at Budokan, the "Black Night" show. In the preceding "Red Night" show, during this song, Yui-metal fell into the gap next to her path from one side-stage to the other during her call-and-response-and returned to the stage for the very next song. That performance is worth watching, both for the girls' display of professionalism (recall, they were just 15-16 at the time) and to see how many safety features were added to the stage for the second show. Lots of railings, neon yellow tape markings, etc. that weren't there before!

The Gimme Chocolate song you did was a live music video, which means they put the studio track over the video from a live performance, but Su never lip syncs. She has an amazing voice and she's the main reason for this band to exist. Key Kobayashi (nicknamed Koba) works at Amuse and he spotted her voice being so strong and as a long time metalhead, he thought what the hell, let's try to mix this talented lady with two talented sidekicks doing more of the choreo and the crowd control and a metal sound. Yes, it just works. Also, don't be afraid, the band members kick ass and do have their share of the spotlight on some songs, notably Akatsuki or Rondo of Nightmare. You should definetly check out Rondo of Nightmare (with Mischiefs of God intro) and Road of Resistance Live in Japan to see what I mean by that. Akatsuki live is also crazy good with focus on the guitarists. BABYMETAL fans do cherish the Kami band (the musicians) and eventough they are not permanent members, some of them have been to most of their shows over the years and are dearly loved by the fans, namely Boh (bass), Hideki (drums), Leda, Ohmura and Mikkio on the guitar. We love them aswell ! They're crazily talented.

I was lucky enough to get to see them on their US tour last year. Sadly it was after Yui left the group. But it was still amazing. As good as their videos are, they are a group that shines the most in live performances. You'll never get the full impact of how good they are live without being there in person.

Here is what I would suggest: 1) Rondo Of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of the metal gods intro 2) Road Of Resistance Live in Japan 3) Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere 1) Rondo Of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of the metal gods intro features solos from the individual members of the Kame band so you will get an idea of their skill level, then you get a solo song from Sumetal so you can experience her vocal range and abilities. 2) Road Of Resistance Live in Japan is a mind blowing experience and will show you how much command SU and the girls have over the audience. 3)Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere (and it must be the Sonisphere show) which loosely translates to "No Bullying Forever" This particular show has attained legendary status among "The One" (that is what fans of Babymetal are called) This show was one of the first major shows that Babymetal did outside of Japan. They had done a few shows in Europe but this was going to be the first MAJOR show. They were originally booked for a side stage for a 5,000 audience show. A few weeks before the concert they were moved to the main stage in front of about 55,000 people. Sonisphere is infamous in that if they think you're rubbish they'll let you know (they threw bottles of piss at Guns n Roses and have booed other major recording acts). No one really knew what the reaction was going to be. Babymetal was scheduled early in the day, I think they were the first or second act on the stage (if I'm wrong someone will correct me). The Kame band went out first to do a sound check and impressed the crowd so they were ready to see what they could do. When the girls came out, there are conflicting reports that they were booed (some say laughed at), I can't say, I wasn't there. BUT, by the end of their show (which Ijime, Dame, Zettai is the last song) Su and the girls had them in the palm of their hand and the crowd was cheering and you can here them chanting "We Want More, We Want More" by the end of the song. This concert really cemented Babymetal as a legit Metal act.

Rondo of Nightmare (withe the Mischiefs of God Intro) is one of my ultimate favourites and a bit of a darker song for Babymetal that I'd love to see your reaction to. Besides that Road of Resistance Live in Japan is a performance that truly showcases how much they love to interact and captivate an audience, as well as their live Iijime Dame Zettai set at Sonisphere.

One of my fave Babymetal live tracks. The mike is usually called the Freddie Mercury mike as he used the same type a lot. Hope your journey down the fox hole continues. 6:00 - nice to see you appreciating Su's ability to go from dancing her socks off to very fine singing in an instant. Try Su's solo NO RAIN, NO RAINBOW live at Hiroshima Green Arena to really hear her vocal talents at their best It's a 2018 performance so fairly recent and is superb - the lyrics are well worth looking up as they are very moving and some beautiful prose. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pqqXpNJny8nQmY0.html . 7:00-their choreography is indeed superb and, as their choreographer is doing the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony, I'm hoping Babymetal will be there too! Thanks for choosing to react to BABYMETAL, they're amazing! As someone who is new to the group, I thought I'd give you and your followers a little background on them. BABYMETAL is a Japanese Kawaii Metal group consisting of (for the most part) SU-METAL on lead vocals, YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL on backing vocals/dancing, or "SCREAM AND DANCE" as they like to call it. I say 'for the most part' as Yui & Moa have a few songs that they do as duets without Su and Su has a few songs she does as solos whilst Yui & Moa take a well deserved break. They were formed in 2010 as part of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, before touring on their own in 2011 and have gone from strength to strength. They started singing to backing tracks with actors in skeleton suits pretending to play instruments (known as BABYBONES) but soon incorporated the Kami Band into their concerts, bringing them in full time at the end of 2013. The Kami Band consists of some of Japan's premier musicians on rotation based on availability. The most popular configuration consisting of Takayoshi Ohmura and Mikio Fujioka on guitar with Leda Cygnus as stand-in, BOH on bass and Aoyama Hideki on drums. These are the people you will see most often in videos. Since the untimely passing of Mikio at the end of 2017 they have enlisted the talents of Isao Fujita on guitar. At the end of 2018 YUIMETAL left the band because of health problems and in 2019 there are 3 girls named AVENGERS that will take her place in a rotating manner. Below is a list of some of their best performances that I hope you will consider for future reactions. Should you decide to do more BABYMETAL reactions in the future, you should be aware that KZfaq will block almost all videos that incorporate audio. The best way round this is to mute the video and provide a link that we can open in a new window and sync with yours. Just give us a countdown before you start playing it. The BABYMETAL fandom is very used to this way of doing things. ===== BABYMETAL ALBUM BABYMETAL DEATH (Legend 1997) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLiTbMeTzM-mgH0.html BABYMETAL DEATH Legend S drive.google.com/file/d/1YF06RceMufeKYBqN5OXRSgI8aEww-6Xu/view?usp=sharing Megitsune (Legend 2015) streamable.com/v7w18 Gimme Chocolate!! This song is among a lot more things, a little tribute tribute for the japanese metal band X-Japan. An old band from the 80. The producer of Babymetal is a great X-Japan fan, so from time to time he put some little tributes to this band. In the videoclip of Headbanger appears a neck protector, the same kind who used for a long time Yoshiki. Leader, founder, composer, piano and drums of X-Japan. He bands so hard that he get damaged his neck along the years. Also the gong to end the concerts appears sometimes in X-Japan concerts. This concert was played in the Nihon Budokan, and martial arts arena build for the last Tokyo olympics, behind the walls of imperial palace in the center of Tokyo. Babymetal have do ever more massive concerts like the one in the Tokyo Dome. In Tokyo Babymetal do most of the times more than a concert, from 2 days in a row (Budokan and Tokyo Dome) to 5 days for the Fox festival. Sometimes also do 2 days like in Osaka or Nagoya. It´s very difficult to find a ticket in Japan. You must be in their "fan club" to enter a lottery to win... the right to purchase tickets. And yes, the girls maybe very young in this concert, bat have in mind that Suzuka was on stages from a very early age. When she was 5 she win a beauty contest, and with only 9 years she was in the Hiroshima Actor´s School. With only 10 years she have a contract with her actual label record: Amuse. It´s pretty normal for japanese "idols" to start her careers in a very early age, but the competitión to enter in this world is simply brutal. Oh, and they must continue normal studying besides her careers. They cannot left school to "sing"

the band for their live performance is the KAMI band its rly good sadly the guitarist Mikio Fujioka died start of 2018 after he fell from a stargazer plattform :( others there are Takayoshi Ōmura: Guitar (since 2013) , Leda Cygnus: Guitar (since 2013), Isao Fujita: Guitar (since 2015), BOH: Bass (since 2013) Hideki Aoyama: Drums (since 2013) the main singer and the other girl "background" singer is also rly good as is the 3rd girl that left the group of course (now its a dancer as 3rd person which does NOT sing for the world tours)

I have just discovered your channel, and it is taken me back a year and a half when I was discovering Babymetal for the first time. Your reactions have thus far been a flashback for me. I think it is a great idea to move forward with their older works before discovering the new. You will appreciate watching their growth doing it this way. My suggestion for the next 2 songs would be to stick with this concert. Start with another of their early songs Ijime, Dame, Zettai (I believe the translation is Bullying, No more, Forever) They seem to be dropping this song from their set list lately, which is a same because I still think it is one of their all-around best. BABYMETAL - Ijime, Dame, Zettai Live @ Budokan Black Night My next suggestion is not their best song (still very good), but it has an musical intro where you can finally see the band gets a little spotlight. Catch Me If You Can BABYMETAL BLACK NIGHT LEGEND DOOMSDAY I will look forward to watching you on this grand discovery!
