BABYMETAL lore says they were chosen by the Fox God to revive metal in Japan and to unite the world through their music, so they have a fox hand sign (called kitsune🦊) like a shadow play fox that they and the fans use instead of the traditional metal devil horns hand sign🤘and the fans call themselves and each other kitsune or megitsune (female fox) and we talk about falling down the Fox hole instead of the more usual rabbit hole. I wonder what you would think of their song 'Shanti Shanti Shanti' (ideally a live version, but not from Glastonbury).

to your question ... "fox" is used for most things Babymetal , originating from a very early bit of "lore" that says they are agents of the Fox God (it's a long story). so, if you saw someone talking about the "fox hole" , it's just babymetal-speak for "rabbit hole" (which the dictionary defines as "something that is intricate or convoluted like a labyrinth and often has no outlet or resolution") -- in other words , discovering Babymetal is quite an adventure. also "The One" is the name of the Babymetal fandom. not sure where that actually originates, but feels like it's just yet another small detail added to fill-out the "babymetal universe" creation myth. (the most dedicated fans promise that they are indeed NOT a cult 😂😉) hope that helps (i tried to be direct and to the point ; because the _complete_ explanation for most things babymetal can indeed get very long and convoluted).

Babymetal is a play on words. In Japanese bebimetaru (new metal) is almost identical to hebimetaru (heavy metal) so Babymetal refers to a new style or genre of heavy metal which they called Kawaii (cute) Metal. The fanbase is called "The One" because (IMO) at live shows the fans are not just spectators. They are part of the show with chants (as you heard here, "B...M...C...") choreography (as much as you can in a packed crowd) and so on. At the end of a concert, Su-metal screams "We are!" and EVERYONE screams "BABYMETAL!" because at that time we are ONE with Babymetal! 🤘🦊🤘

BABYMETAL started in 2010 as an experimental sub-unit of the larger JPop/JRock group Sakura Gakuin. Before Sakura Gakuin, she performed in a stage production of "The Adventurers" and was a member of the JPop trio, Karen Girls. Fun Fact: Bullfrogs are her Kryptonite Yui Mizuno\Yuimetal (Scream and Dance) Left the group in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues: Angel of Dance, Princess Yui, Yui-bot, Tomato Princess, Tomato-Kun, Kawaii Princess and Devourer of Souls (or at least she stares into your soul). Yui had a minor role as a child actor in a Japanese TV Drama before joining Sakura Gakuin. She has cute, chubby cheeks. Moa Kikuchi\Moametal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Love\Smile, Queen of Hearts, Princess Moa, Kawaii Princess, Super Moa-chan, Maiden of Mischief, and Headmistress of Hedabon. She has huge dimples and a smile that melts the hardest of hearts. Fun Fact: Loves to troll Su-metal on-stage with little pranks as well as torment Su-metal with Bullfrogs. Momoko Okazaki\Momometal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Joy, Kawaii Princess, Princess Peach, Momo-Monster, Vampire Slayer, Kabuki Queen. Also a Sakura Gakuin graduate. Was a contestant on the Korean reality survival program "Girls Planet 999" (which thankfully for The ONE, she was eliminated from early on) and performed in a stage musical production of "Black Butler". Momoko was the only “Avenger” (see below) to perform in the “10 BABYMETAL Budokan” shows in 2021 and was officially named Momometal and made a permanent member in April 2023. She deserves the spot! Fun Fact: Momoko's father is a popular comedian in Japan known for making dead-pan jokes. Momoko worked very hard to make her way without using his name as a crutch. BLACK BABYMETAL: Yuimetal and Moametal performing as a duet while Su-metal takes a breather. Also known as “MoiMoi”. There are 4 BBM songs (GJ!, Onedari Daiskusen, 4 No Uta\Song 4, and Sis. Anger) some of which Moametal performed solo a few times after Yui's departure. Now that Momometal is a member, we are hoping for more BBM songs with MoMoa! But only the Fox God knows. AVENGERS: 3 Dancers who took turns performing the choreography in Yuimetal’s spot after her departure. They were not official members did not have microphones and were not even named. It was the fans who figured out who they were and you will see them in live performances between 2018 and 2021. They were: Momoko Okazaki (see above). Riho Sayashi: Suzuka’s former rival at Actors School Hiroshima, often competing for the same roles. Former “Ultimate Ace” of the JPop Idol group Morning Musume. Now a solo artist. Kano Fujihara: Former Member of Sakura Gakuin, the school-aged Idol group that BABYMETAL was born out of. Like Suzuka and Moa before her, Kano was Student Council President her last year in Sakura Gakuin and like Yui, was considered arguably the best dancer in SG during her time there. She is now a member of the Idol group @onefive, which is comprised of 4 Sakura Gakuin graduates (Kano, Momo, Soyo and Gumi). Kano only performed with BABYMETAL in Japan as she could not travel, likely due to her commitments to Sakura Gakuin and the then developing @onefive. We are #notacult. Kitsune Da O! 🤘🦊🤘

The sign the girls are making in the thumbnail or during the performance where lead singer Su-metal uses her fingers to spell out the letters B, M, and C is Fox Sign. Just like you noticed the official fandom name is "The One" (which is the title of another song dedicated to all of their fans) but among BM fans there is a subculture with their own words to reflect different things inside BM lore and everything around. The Fox God or "Kitsune Sama" is the metal god who sent these girls with a mission to spread the love for metal sound and unite everyone. Fans took Alice in Wonderland's reference of "rabbit hole" and switched to "fox hole" as a joke to represent the introduction to this wonderful world full of surprises. We also call each others kitsune (male fans) and megitsune (female fans), Megitsune is also the title of another song they got and everyone loves. Btw when you watch songs from 2018/2019 and after like this, one of the original members isn't here anymore (YuiMetal), so the thumbnail is wrong, when BMC was released they were a duo group so you can find pictures with them already grown up and more recently the full trío with the new official member, MomoMetal. BM uses fox as the band symbol. So getting into BM, it is called 'falling into a foxhole' or 'getting stuck in a fox swamp', haha. Thank you from a fan of BM in Japan!

Well this song live is really a number on its own. If she getscto the acapella part you really get a complete new feeling what it means that she sings it live. You really feel at this time this is just her and her talent. The Foxhole and so on are mainly name from different times. The part was simply that their manager wanted to get rid of the devil sign and wanted to redesign it to a kitsune sign, a kitsune is a fox and its sign got therefor a symbol for them, esoecially after they got the song Megitsune, that totally changed the meaning of this ancient tale. The one as a sign for the fans wss obviously a long held secret and it got its special meaing, when they performed this song for the first time. They had a hevy lift system in place for heavy loads and when they saw it, they immediatly rentedvit for their performance it was already obvious that Yui had problems with dancing and with this eqipment they were able to fly just three meters above their fans while they performed the song. This was the big start for their next project, a moveable stage for the big arenas in japan. Sincevthey are only three members it was possible to build a stage for them that wss sitting on rails, had its own hydraulic, light and smoke system. The problem withbthe bigger japanese arenas is simply that youvare exzremly farvaway from them and wit this stage they got nearer to their fans, at least for a part of the time otherwise japanese fans really depended on big videoscreens during their live performances.
