When you noticed the drummer making a funny face he was having a hengao, or funny face, battle with Moametal. They do that at that precise point in the song at every show unless the stage setup causes Moa to be in a different spot on stage. Su-Metal and Moa have one during the song Megitsune when Su holds a fox-mask in front of her face while looking in Moa's direction. There are a lot of things like this that fans watch out for because they show just how much fun the girls and the band have during their performances.

I'm an old guy (66) who loves prog rock and classic rock and some classic type metal. I probably shouldn't even like this band but I get a total charge out of them. The players are phenomenal and the girls bring a whole new dimension of entertainment to this type of music. I'm also totally impressed by their incredible preciseness. I can only imagine the hours and hours of practice that went into making this group of people so amazing live. I hope they can recover from the death of their guitarist because he was mind bogglingly good. I think the fox god is probably searching very hard. I hope there's more new music that is of the same caliber coming from them. Lastly I would like to say that if BABYMETAL came close to where I live I'd be grabbing a ticket for a show in a heartbeat.

Musically this is the same as the official video. The difference is the stage show. Babymetal's festival shows are pretty toned down compared to their arena shows. In the arena shows you get entrances and exits from flying coffins. You get lasers and flames and explosions. There are rotating stages and stage risers. The girls (or what seems to be them) will be at one place and then suddenly appear somewhere else. There is usually a long run from the main stage to a smaller stage in the center of the floor. Heck, you might even get to see someone get crucified. Their recent Tokyo Dome shows took all this to the extreme.

Among reaction videos on babymetal, this one of yours is in my top5 list. Everything you said I feel the same way. Babymetal as a whole captures the best spirit of Japanese work ethic.

Japan should be very proud of BABYMETAL. They represent their country very well. Great reaction. Great song choice. I remeber when I first saw Gimme Chocolate I was still in that 'oh yeah, that's really nice, a bit of a hype/fad' kindof mode. But then I saw more and more video's and the more I saw/heard, the more this band seemed to amaze and astound me. When I saw the choreography for Catch me if you can', I was like, ok, this is not some hype anymore. Then I saw the live version of Ijime Dame Zettai in Sonisphere and that sealed for me. What a great band, what fantastic musicians. Never looked back since. There's so much to enjoy, go explore at your own risk!

I love Babymetal and one of my favourite aspects of the group is the variety in their songs, they draw from every sub-genre of metal and explore it all throughout an album - it's great, because they aren't limited in what they can do. It also helps that they have so many talented composers writing the music and it leads to further variation in songwriting, not to mention the Kami band being ridiculously talented - they seem to be capable of playing anything. As for the girls, they're just wonderful and I can't get over how well their vocals work with the music, it's such an odd combination but they manage to pull it off so well. Su has such a powerful, amazing voice and Yui and Moa always have their harmonies which make the songs that much better. On top of that, their stage presence and energy is amazing - they're so talented. Road of Resistance was co-written by Herman-li and Sam Totman, they also recorded with Babymetal for the studio version - which is why it's very reminiscent of Dragonforce. Anyway, I've really enjoyed your reaction videos - keep it up :) you got yourself a new sub. My suggestion for a song would be "The One", it's the album closer from Metal Resistance and it's wonderful.

It was so beautiful to see your reaction! This band is unique, we are seeing history in the making, and I saw that you felt that. Their most dramatic performance, however, is Ijime, Dame, Zettai at Sonisphere 2014 (official). That was the first time they played at a foreign festival, for 50.000 people, who mainly had never heard of them. And with blind courage they did the impossible. They won over the crowd with the most excellent version of that song I have seen. Believe me, that's a must see!

I liked that you mentioned their variety in the songs. You're correct but you've only scratched the surface. Every song they do us it's own unique thing. And there are no bad or filler songs. The girls constantly pull faces at each other and the band when they think the audience can't see them. The drummer pulling a face was probably him responding in kind to Moa. If there's one thing Babymetal brings to the table, it's their ability to constantly surprise us. Wait till you hear Iine!, Megitsune, Doki Doki Morning, Babymetal Death, Akumu no Rondo, Onedari Daisakusen, ... all very different songs from one another, and all great songs ... and that's just from the *first* album. The second album continues with Meta Taro, YAVA!, From Dusk Till Dawn, Syncopation, Amore, Sis. Anger, Tales of the Destinies... again, all very different from one another, and all great songs. And I haven't even listed all their songs, just the most obviously unique ones that came to mind. Can't wait to hear what they come up with next!

Also, I noticed that you noticed the funny face Hideki (the drummer) made at Moa. That's a little game the girls and the band do during shows, and is called, I believe, hengao. There's a couple of fan vids of Megitsune where Su has a Kitsune (fox) mask covering her face from the audience, but she's facing Moa. In the fan vids, she's sticking her tongue out at Moa right before she puts her Queen face back on and slowly drops the mask.
@showgee

You are right. I guess "that little game" helps them relax during their intense performances.The original Kanji Hengao is written 変顔. 変 means strange, peculiar, odd, queer, curious, weird or eccentric as adjective and change or reform as verb while 顔 means face. As you mentioned Moametal started doing it against the drummer, Hideki Aoyama a couple years ago as shown in 'pFP6aY0TFPM'

KARRANGE AWARDS 2016: Best Live Performance - Winner: BABYMETAL This song was actually the First song on their second album, Metal Resistence. The Babymetal hand gesture is not the typical metal demon horns but rater The Sign of the Fox God, Kitsune. Look closely!!

If we want to be more complete: The song was created fairly quickly after their fist album and was performed for over a year. It was released as a digital single and it was also the bonus track on the international release of their first album. I believe in an interview it was mentioned: the song was changed to fit the venue at the last moment, their used to be even more guitar playing but it would drown out the singing in that venue. And it was Yui that suggested the song to be played their. :-)

Interesting trivia: This song was made in collaboration with Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce
@MetalOnyxWolf
@MetalOnyxWolf 7 жыл бұрын
The reason it sounds different is because it was written by Herman Li and Sam Totman of DragonForce. They both played it with Baby Metal too in one video

"The drummer is looking at the one of the vocalists for a second like 0_0" That's totally a running thing with Hideki Aoyama (the drummer) and Moa-Metal. She has a rep for trying to make faces to make the other two girls corpse on stage and the drummer does the same thing to Moa. There's a whole bunch of videos pointing it out when it happens.

I'm surprised you didn't make a comment relating this song to Dragonforce as many others did. Well, even if you did, I wouldn't blame you because Sam and Herman from DF were collaborating with BABYMETAL for this particular song. :D

Dragonforce's guitarists collaborated with them for the album version of the song. So if it sounds like a Dragonforce song, that is why.

RoR is more often the show opener. They close a lot on Ijime Dame Zettai. It's as epic as this song imo. So the heavier songs you haven't yet seen, IDZ, Catch Me If You Can, Sis. Anger, GJ!, Babymetal Death, and Headbanger. They also have some really good songs that incorporate more pop like Awadama Fever and Yava but there are still parts where they go hard. Yava is a fuckin' ska/metal song. That's something I've never heard before. And then there is Megitsune. I don't know what to say about that but WOW. This by the way comes from a dude that has been in pits at a Pantera show a million years ago, among many others. I freakin' love Babymetal. Some of the best shit I've heard in years. I just love seeing another metalhead discover BM.

Nah, RoR has only been a show opener at three concerts. They normally open with Megitsune, or more often Babymetal Death. IDZ used to be their closer when RoR didn't exist yet. Edit: I agree with the other stuff you said :)
@randumo24
@randumo24 7 жыл бұрын
Lol what? The show opener is almost always BM Death, and the closer is usually now The One. RoR being the opener was Tokyo Dome Red Night because BM Death was unavailable since it was the opener for Black Night.

Yes, being used to open a show three times and never being used as a closer means it is "more often the show opener."
@hoipimniet
@hoipimniet 7 жыл бұрын
It was the closer for almost every show in 2016. EDIT: Okay, not almost every show. But more than three times. EDIT2: I counted, it's more than 40 times in total.

I think many of those people have some myopia about the history of modern music. There was a time when rock wasn't considered a "real" or legitimate form of music. Later, punk and metal weren't "real rock", subgenres weren't "real" this or that. So, let it not be "real metal" if the sniveling purists want to declare it as such. Great things come with breaking away (or even outright rejection) from a stagnating "real" pedigree and making a new path.
@BenC460
@BenC460 7 жыл бұрын
The only argument I can see against Babymetal that has some validity is that they are a "manufactured" band. The fact is they are but for completely different reasons than your average cookie cutter boy band. The average manufactured boy band is created by record execs following a proven formula designed to pump out generic pop hit after pop hit written based on tons of market research to drive sales. Babymetal is none of that. You can tell the people behind Babymetal have a passion for metal and know it very well. Koba was not sure at all if BM was going to be successful when he started this project and I think that the execs at Amuse were even more doubtful. They had very little support from Amuse when they started out having to work on a shoestring budget to record and make the video for Doki Doki Morning. The girls even had borrowed costumes in the video.

Yep, they are not manufactured. I like to call them: 'precision engineered with love for the craft'. That is what Babymetal is. I agree, this is the only thing I will and have to say about it.

Honestly, I never understood this whole real vs. non-real metal, or any other genre, or music in general. I mean, in the end it doesn't matter how you label it, but whether you enjoy it. And if you do, it doesn't matter what it's labeled as. Same thing goes for the "manufactured" argument. What does it matter if it's engineered if it's engineered well enough to be amazing? :D I just don't get it.
