The music was arranged/writen by Herman Li & Sam Totman from Dragonforce. When they wrote it they thought they'd never have to play it so made it really hard to play, then in later in 2015 Babymetal picked up an award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards and the Kami band had to go home, so they asked Dragonforce to be the backing band and they played Road of Resistance. They also played as guests with Dragonforce for one song at Download in 2015.

"Ijime, Dame, Zettai" @ Sonisphere 2014. It was arguably the most important performance of their career. Instead of performing in front of a few thousand dedicated BM fans on a side stage they were thrown onto the main stage last minute to perform in front of tens of thousands of hardcore heavy metal fans that had never even heard of them in the birthplace of heavy metal. By the end of their set, finishing with "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", they had won the hearts of those in attendence. I believe that it was that very performance that catapuled them into metal stardom and solidified them as a true metal act.

I saw them front row in Austin last year. Mind blowing. VIP package tons of swag. It was life changing. Got to meet a ton of Japanese people who became friends.

Ijime Dame Zettai!!! You must react to this next. It's their first festival outside of Asia and their first exposure to unsuspecting metal heads. They were originally scheduled for a smaller side stage and were upgraded to the main stage at the last minute, where Anthrax and Iron Maiden were to headline. So needless to say, no one really knew who they were except for a handful of Japanese and western fans that followed them there. RoR is one of their main stay songs to this day. It is often used to end their concerts and is a massive fan favourite due to the call/response part. BM live performances are really all about the relationship between BM and their audience. And as for Dragonforce - members Herman Li and Sam Totman co-wrote this and appear on the album track playing guitar.

This version of this song with the extended wowow sing-along section in the middle was the third or fourth encore at the end of an hour and a half long concert. Every song has unique choreography. And after hour and a half of singing, dancing, and running around that huge arena stage with the catwalk bridge, the girls don't skip a beat, don't miss a step, all the way to the final "See You!". The amount of training, planning, and stamina their performance must require is beyond my comprehension. Always more BabyMetal forever! :)

The song itself obviously isn't bad, but it is nowhere near their best or most memorable. Next I would have to go with 'Headbanger' from Legend 1997 or 'Megitsune' from the Budokan live (Red Night or Black Night - both were great). If you want more shock factor, especially if your sister is with you, 'Iine' (not Line, the first letter is a capital i). Your reactions are great! Crowds outside of Japan love Babymetal as well. They have concert DVD / BluRays of from both shows they played in London in 2014. One at The Forum and one at O2 Academy Brixton. They have another DVD/BluRay from their 2016 sold out show at Wembley. They started their 2016 world tour at Wembley and were the first Japanese band to headline there.

Cheers for this Drew. I do miss this kind of Babymetal ... all 3 girls mic'd, Kami band solos bits, not hidden behind masks and not in the background. 2018 was a bit rough for BM but hopefully they are getting nicely back in good form. Having a trio again is definitely a good start to 2019.

After several more listens the structure of the track and the coordinated efforts of the whole band's performance becomes more apparent. The unveiling of this track at the Brixton Academy in November 2014 is a blisteringly-faster version on the live DVD.

You are correct about hearing a Dragonforce influence in this song. That's what the Dragonforce mention refers to: Herman Li and Sam Totman from Dragonforce collaborated with BABYMETAL for this song, writing the guitar arrangements for it. It is, therefore, a typical fast and technical Power Metal song. If that's not your thing, then I can understand that it's "a bit much" for you. And, of course, your honest opinion is appreciated. You're also correct that, apart from the song, the performance as a whole and from the girls especially, commanding a crowd like that - at ages 17 and 15 then - is a big reason why fans recommend this particular video. Since you like this type of metal (this is very power metal) I recommend you some stuff. Go for Babymetal - Akatsuki (live). It's also fast but it's way more traditional than the songs you reacted to date, beautiful and powerful. Road of Resistance is one of their most famous but I kinda agree with you, I don't think is one of their best. React to "Awakening" from Unleash the Archers (studio version, not so many good quality lives from them), it's power but it's a bit harder than average and still fast and crazy. Front woman, amazing singer, and she hit those notes, but again, not good quality lives out there on YT. And bonus. If you like spliting the crowd react to "Consing to Oblivion" by Epica, live at the Zenith. That band, and that song, mix the beautiful parts of symphonic metal and the growls from death metal. Hits hard and I know you like hard stuff. Keep it going, man!

I became a Babymetal fan after one song, Everyone on that stage loves what they're doing and the crowd loves them for it, they touch on almost every style of music seemingly effortlessly, I myself have a very eclectic taste, from Opera and Classical to the heaviest Metal or from Country to Rap and EVERYTHING in between, if it can hook me I'm caught lol

If you want a surprise efect from Babymetal its time for "Iine!!" . Nobody is NEVER ready for that song. Also "Catch me if you can" has a strong "Gimme choco" feeling

This song is tailored around these engagement with the crowd, it's often used to close their performances, but in the Tokyo Dome Red Night (the first of those two dates), in front of 55.000 they actually opened the concert with RoR, that's how much they were confident. Indeed the connection between them and their fans was so thight that night, that MOA almost cried right at the beginning and SU herself was astonished. To me, their best power metal song is still Amore 🤘🦊⚡

Yeah, members of Dragonforce took part in writing and recording this one, and one other song from "Metal resistance" album. You can clearly hear that on both songs. Also, I have to agree with all those people suggesting that you check out Sonisphere 2014 performance of Ijime, Dame, Zettai. The crowd there wasn't exactly "friendly" - they had no idea who BM is. "IDZ" is the last song of the set, it's fun to watch the effect that three wee girls and four kickass musicians had on a hardcore metal crowd (known to literally bottle the acts that do not impress ;) ). Do it!

I don't know if you've ever listened to or seen LiSA she's also a jpop singer she isn't metal but a couple songs have some rock influence idk maybe give them a listen on your own and if you like it then you can do a reaction but LiSA Is absolutely my favorite JPOP artist but she is significantly more pop

Good and fair reaction Drew. You were wondering about the band after your second reaction video so this one show cased them a lot more than other songs. Thats why it was recommended i think. I love the song it being the first one from BM that i came across. Its one of the most powerful live performances i have ever seen on video at least. I can't think of anything else where 3 teenagers take total command of a crowd that size. I'll vote for 'Headbanger' Legend 1997 next. Their song 'Distortion' from Download 2018 is worth checking out to see how a European/UK crowd reacts. Bit of an image change for them in that one which should be interesting to watch and get your reaction to.

you really should watch megitsune it is kinda nuts. And when you think these girls early on were still performing in the larger Idiol Band it is kinda nuts. Both Moa and Yui were in two other side "clubs" from the main band. This just blew up. It is sad that all three aren't there anymore but I get it.

It seems like you're not too much into metal if you didn't like the song... but fear not ! Because BABYMETAL isn't all about one genre of music - as you may have realized by now. So my advice to you would be to avoid their heavier stuff like DEATH, Headbanger or Sis Anger :D. I think you'd be more inclined to like those which are easier on the ears for someone not used to fast double bass drums and killer speed-guitar solos : BABYMETAL - The One official (The fans homage song) BABYMETAL - Akatsuki live (Su solo) BABYMETAL - Rondo of Nightmare with misfits of God intro (Su solo) BABYMETAL - No Rain No Rainbow live (actually a ballad) Now to answer to your question, they obviously have a good following in Japan but in the West they've got quite a response too. The thing is Glastonbury was their first ever "pop" festival. They've had much better responses in Download or Sonisphere for example. And as someone already mentioned Glastonbury was sold out before BABYMETAL was announced. And a third factor you need to take into account is that PAPA YA is a ~2 months old song and that was their first time playing it live to any crowd - not to mention an unexpecting crowd. But don't be fooled, they have a huge following in Europe and the US too.

Herman Li was the co-writer on this from DragonForce. When one of the big festivals refused to let Babymetal play. Dragonforce broke their set and brought babymetal in for a few songs … The crowd was stunned and the next year Babymetal had their own stage. Download 2015 review: Bounding onstage and starting up Gimme Chocolate!!, Babymetal come on like a neon metal rainbow slicing through the evening gloom. Herman Li and co whirl to the sides, giving the trio room to jump and pose, again in front of a sea of cameras and mobile phones. It doesn’t take long before all arms are raised skywards, clapping along to their infectious bubblegum beats. This is their first time playing together live, and it’s ridiculously uplifting. BabyDragon are here and they’re on fire.

I went to show of theirs, it was my first one it was so much energy, from start to finish, I saw them open up a gap in the floor then just dropped the flag and had everyone crash in like a wave to start the pit.
