Great reaction. This was a one-off cover Su did on her 16th birthday (she will be 23 on Sunday) - the song was a huge hit in Japan in 1997 the year she was born. Skeleton suits = Babybones miming the instrumentals, not the Kami Band (they came on for the last 5 songs at this show and have been a permanent fixture from the next big shows they did at the Budokan in March 2014). Ephemeral means short lived, transitory or temporary.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🌟 🎶 "ephemeral" means fleeting, or transient. Lasting for a short time. Tamashii no Rufuran (Soul's Refrain) was the theme song for first film in the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. The film and Yoko Takahashi's performance of the song were both released in Su-metal's birth year, 1997. Of course 'Legend 1997' was a pretty early BABYMETAL concert, so they didn't have as many original songs. Since she is a big karaoke fan, I wouldn't be surprised if Su already knew this song before this concert was planned. : ) The song also fits the rebirth theme of the 'Legend 1997' concert.

I am not sure if You have noticed it but the way the lights are placed behind the scene that forms shape of an eye is direct reference to NGE anime. It was 20 years since I watched it but I still remember sequence with an eye-shaped Angel descending to destroy Earth.

Just wanting to add for the people interested in the Anime (if there are any): The song is from the "Rebirth" segment of the movie Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth. The "Death segment" is a rather mediocre recap of the legendary original tv show from 1995 and the "Rebirth segment" tries and mostly fails to tell the real ending of the story the show wasn't able to because of budget and time reasons. Anyone who wants the real ending should definitely watch End of Evangelion, which was released a few months later, instead of D&R. It was technically the first NGE movie, but it shouldn't be watched for story progress and has nothing to do with the movies from 2007 onwards. It can definitely be skipped when watching Evangelion for the first time.

Don't worry, the Kami Band never wore those suits. That is the Babybones. They are dancers for when the music was recorded. Retired permanently in 2014, shortly after this concert. They were more an inside joke than pretending to play. I saw one where the drummer had floppy rubber drumsticks. None of the guitars are real. Su is covering this song because it was number one in japan the year she was born and it's her 16th birthday. Yui and Moa both covered songs from their birth year for their 14th birthdays. I love the covers they used to do before they had so many songs of their own.

Being a member of the Babybones is one of the best jobs in the world, you get to be paid to perform with Babymetal and you can't really do it wrong. :-) From an interview: Q : What made you come up with an air-band idea at all? Koba : I kept thinking that we needed a feel of the band because our theme was Metal. So we set up useless twin bass drums and piled up never-roaring Marshall units (laugh). To be hang on in details at the very least. We did our best for the feel of "We do it live in our heart." Q : A member of the air-band did it in sync, to be surprised (laugh). Koba : they do tons of practices so hard (laugh). The air band (Mr. Bones) listens to Babymetal so deep, too. Every member love Babymetal. They seems to practice choreography in sync by themselves to show their best if they do it at all. I gave minimum suggestions like "we do the breakdown here, so you'll bend down lower to show your attack! attack!" like that (laugh). We call it "The crab" indeed (laugh). We had a talk like "The crab squat! Now!" I just gave some simple orders like "Let's decide whether two counts or four counts here," and I say "Enjoy yourselves as for the rest!"

@@autohmae yeah, the hate for the Babybones is completely undeserved. They weren't trying to trick anyone. If they wanted to do that they could have. If you really watch them for more than 10 seconds and can't tell they're not playing then you know nothing about music and you have nothing to complain about. They don't even pretend that the guitars are plugged in. I don't know how to play guitar but I can tell they aren't.

@@crypticmisery7996 Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that "Tamashii no Rufuran" is the main theme for the first movie, while "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" is the opening theme for the Eva TV series, so both are main themes in different installments of that great saga.

@@galdanag Tamashii no Rufuran is the theme from the Rebirth segment of NGE: Death & Rebirth, which is part mediocre recap of the tv show (Death) and part mostly bad and rushed telling of the real ending (Rebirth). If anyone's interested in the Anime, they should watch the tv show from 1995 (the theme is "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis" or "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" by the way, so you were right) and "End of Evangelion" after for the real ending to the story the last three episodes of the tv show couldn't tell because of budget and time reasons. Or the, so far, three newer movies from 2007 onwards (the fourth and last movie will be released in January 2021... finally) would be ok, too.

From 2:58, Su- has sung with "季節に咲く、まるで儚い花", " Kisetsu ni Saku, Marude Hakanai Hana". The word "儚い", "Hakanai" is translated in "ephemeral". I think that Ephemeral means short-lived, or fragile here. Ephemeral flower is like that Cherry blossoms (桜 Sakura) is in full bloom in spring in Japan and is very beautiful, but they will fall in no time with about one week. I think it is such a meaning.

"Tamashii No Rufuran" means Soul's Refrain and it was the theme song used for the first anime film "Neon Genesis Evangelion" performed by Yoko Takahashi and released on Feb. 21, 1997. she also sung "Cruel Angel Thesis" (another good, classic & popular song from the series). this performance are from Su-Metal 16th birthday show "BM Legend 1997" and this sunday (Dec. 20) she will be 23,..

My first language isn't English and I know this word, why don't English speakers know this ? What went wrong ? Or maybe nothing is wrong and it's just me who knew this. But in my language about the word that is a direct translation sounds nothing like the English word, but I've never heard anyone say about that: "I don't know what that means." So maybe it's not me ?

And an amazing performance. Check out the original and see what Babymetal did to it. Their are even comparison videos I think. And remember this was the first and only performance, so they spent a bunch of time on creating it in this way, my guess is many of the movements are Su-metal's own interpretation, not from a choreographer and then never did it again.

I actually feel bad for the original singer because Su takes this one to another level. Thankfully that is not the Kami Band, but the Skeleton Band, and not really playing. This is very old Babymetal when Suzuka wasn't a year out from graduation of Sakura Gakuin and Yui, and Moa were still in Sakura Gakuin and had not fully transferred to only using the Kami Band. The Kami Band does show up at the end of this concert for a few songs. The song is not BABYMETAL, but a cover from the popular Japanese anime Neon Genesis Evangelion something Koba (BMs producer and creater is a massive fan of. The Anime came out in 1995 or 96 I believe and Su wasn't even born when it was made.

An ephemeral pool is one that springs up for a time then disappears. High groundwater content pushes water upward. It is more than just a rain pool. I think. Can you please do Aldious - kanasii otoko ? Sultry magic. Snack on sushi during JMetal to give plenty of pause time , and create new genre. Maybe it can work and Metal Mafia is the best to attempt it. Just a little accent of mixing arts???

Damn, this song brings back memories of watching evangelion.... This reminds me of your comment about sounding like anime in your reaction to the Helpful Guide.... The song the song that on hearing you probably won't think of as an anime song, is actually a cover of an anime song 🤣🤣🤣As some people probably have pointed out, in their Legend 1997 and 1999 concerts, Su, Yui and Moa all sang a song solo what was popular in the year of their birth.... This was Su's.... You should check out Moa's and Yui's too if you haven't. AND (i've been asking a lot of reactors for this)...
