I looked for the full version of this for hours already with no result. Can someone please give a link to it as Delphine Galou as the contralto? She is just phenomenal, no one I've listened to is even close in their performance!

There is no full version. Sorry for the time you spent searching for it. This single aria was recorded for a French TV program. I have edited the video, as there was some annoying voice-over, and I also had the clean recording of the aria (from the same session) as an audio file, so I combined the video file with the audio file, and I replaced with title slides the few seconds where the announcer was visible.

@@voraciousreader3341 nope... i was talking about the authenticity of german music , Julia Hamari sang in ungermanic way, very brooding, the tempo is too slow and quite robotic with precise voice control... while Galou was accompanied by period orchestra, she sang with artful carelessness and thats what captured the listeners, with elaborate storytelling dynamics, Galou made listeners cry but not Julia Hamari (to my ears) .. music is not about perfection, it needs to deliver in order to touch listeners heart & soul.

What makes this so perfect is that its actually interpreted correctly in the Baroque style. Not a ton of vibrato in either the vocalist or the orchestra. Melodies, harmonies and counterpoint perfectly balanced with a PURE tone, simply played and sung. And good LORD Delphine Galou has the voice of an angel. Her voice is SO round and full without being strained AT ALL. She maintains such perfect tone without covering it up with so much vibrato we see creeping in during the on coming Classical periods. Perfect balance between straight pure tones and vibrato. Her tone is SO fat you could land a 747 in it!

@@domainofthesun4400 It is OK with me. And in barock I also like a very little, nice, vibrato. I think there is a difference between big opera vibrato (which I dislike) and barock vibrato. One of my favourites is Emma Kirkby. And I think Delphine have the "right" barock vibrato, . But "without much emotion"? There I disagree. Happily we not always have to have the same opinion. Tonight I was feeling so down I decided that I had to listen to this piece to express my pain. Needless to say, voiceless screams came out of my mouth, the sweetest tears out of my eyes. Bien sur ,c'est du Bach,on pourrait dire facile d’être dans le magnifique. mais la ,c'est vrai que l'émotion nous envahi , la chanteuse,le violoniste et l'orchestre véritablement au service de l’œuvre, avec cette humilité devant celle ci et la voix de Delphine Galou, douce et puissante a la fois. merci pour ce moment

There is no need for a heaven when there is the St Mathew Passion by Bach :) This singer has a lovely pure timbre to her voice which is generally only found in counter-tenors in my opinion. Excellent tempo too!

This is the best performance I have ever seen or listened to, both the orchestra and particularly the solo violin, but it is the singer who nailed it - she makes it perfect by by her perfect singing. I absolutely love it, and I wish when I am dying they would do this once again for me.

as dutch speaker I was wondering abouth the right translation of the word erbarme in this context.Have merci translated to dutch means Heb genade,wich means dont kill me,save me (in case of a lost battle or something).If I look to the word erbarme I see that its a combinated word from the words erb and arme.erb into dutch means erf what means surroundings (deep translation).Arme means armen,part of the body. In my opinion the person is in her or his last hour and is scared for death and ask God for omarmen(dutch)embrace her /him

@HaraldLieder
@HaraldLieder Жыл бұрын
@@jwijn No, the word "Erbarmen" (noun) has no connection to "Arm" (the limb). The verb "barmen" is independent from this and means "to lament", "to show / feel sympathy". So "have mercy" is actually a good, close translation.

It's my favorite rendition of this masterpiece. Galou's voice is warm, passionate, when most other renditions are flat or setback. She's powerfull and flickering at the same time, wich is remarquable. When I hear how she's imploring, my own voice knotted with emotion. In a way, this interpretation is very romantic. The coordination with the violin looks weak. But still, it never fails, it works. Because the play of the violonist is a perfect match for Galou's voice. I'm an atheist but I imagine that the protestant God, after the trap he set, would be much more convinced of Peter's beg if it's trembling, profoundly human.

Absolutely fabulous quality of singing by Mme Galou. Clearly the 21st Century equivalent of Julia Hamari, but with a depth and French elegance and warmth that counters and complements the Teutonic Protestant sincerity of Richter's work perfectly. Thank you for this joy.
