A common subject for 17 th century still life painting is food ,with subtle features of decomposition visible.There are many paintings of this type to be seen in Antwerp. It is a meditation upon decay and death- it seems a very suitable motif to accompany Bach’s music.

Another "historically informed" one who plays Bach on the violin as if she's falling asleep at any time... I wonder if some lucky day I will find some Baroque violinist really capable of interpreting Bach on the violin, without giving the impression of falling asleep at any other bar. So far, none.
