My dad was a viola player (he played with Toronto Symphony Orchestra in the 1970s). This was his warm up piece. He played this every day. It sounded so rich on a viola.

It’s quite a different feeling on the viola, certainly! Regardless of medium of playing, it’s really euphoric to play this at full tempo and being able to appreciate the music.

I barely know where to start. The clarity, tone, intonation, tempo and his feel for the piece is so remarkable... And it does not hurt that my very first hearing of Gavotte en rondeau, as with many of my age (56) cohort was from the PBS science series "COSMOS", performed no less by Grumiaux. I was mesmerized and today more than ever I find Grumiaux my favorite violinist from a list of many. I will conclude by saying: I experience a unique feeling listening to this very performance of Gavotte en rondeau. As many of you well know, this recording is pressed onto a gold LP record that is aboard the Voyager spacecraft. It represents a small part of the LPs content; that being the sounds of earth. I find so much calming peace knowing even after I, we, everything turns to dust, this may still be transiting the universe until one day our 'message in a bottle' from a pale blue dot arrives on a distant shore, and the inhabitants weep with happiness with what they have discovered.

And I prefer by far Grumiaux' interpretation. This is one of the key performers of Bach's Sonatas/Partitas for solo violin. I especially love the purity of his sound. his smooth attack which is often lacking in those who perform those highly difficult pieces. To each his own... Ling Ling is perfect technically but lacks an important ingredient: soul. www.allmusic.com/album/js-bach-sonatas-partitas-mw0001422319

@@michaelzheng2198 I didn't ask for your age. Also, I didn't correct your spelling of piece, I corrected you on what you were calling a "song" when it's not. And I did it cause I take classical music seriously and want to teach people like you, people that don't know, that classical music matters (You should watch TwoSetViolin to see if you can learn some things about the things you play) Also, if you're not gonna respond maturely, then don't even bother👍🏻

@@michaelzheng2198 You don't know how much science I know lmao, you just know I play violin. And I don't get why do you act like that when I never said something offensive, huh🤷‍♀️ I told you, I just wanted to educate, so I would really appreciate if you didn't insult people on the internet (not just me, but everyone), you don't know me and you don't have the right to say what you said to me. Now peace out✌✌

I love these pieces. I came here to read the notes while the violinist plays and *pretend i can read sheet music* lol. I read I love Yoo. But why didn’t i search up the piece sooner? I guess i wasn’t educated about violin classical at all, i didn’t bother to search it up because i was completely stupid. I thought it was made up “song” with my knowledge of classical music. I haven’t and didn’t find TwoSet too, i wish i knew about the amazing pieces sooner from Bach. I’m still very uneducated tho lol.
