In this video we take apart a Bachmann Branchline 32-387 Class 37/5 37506 in Railfreight Red Stripe Livery (model train). This was my first time servicing a Class 37 but we made it through. I cover shell removal, gear lubrication, DCC installation and basic cleaning. Once the service is complete, we'll see how it runs on the layout.
00:00 - 04:50 - Intro & Quick Look
04:50 - 15:30 - Shell Removal
15:30 - 16:00 - Quick Shell Inspection
16:00 - 17:00 - Clean the Contacts
17:00 - 19:00 - DCC Decoder Installation
19:00 - 20:18 - Shell Inspection
20:18 - 32:58 - Maintenance
32:58 - 36:45 - First Run

Hello from England. Not sure if you'll see this as I'm adding the comment 1 year after you posted it. I picked up Mary Queen of Scots example recently and added the front end detail to one end, onlt to find I'd done so to the opposite end from where the driver was sitting (schoolboy error!). So your tutorial on how to remove the body came in very handy.

Liked your presentation. Took off my truck from the drivers end and found the cogs full of grease. Just too much. Did a good clean up on my 37905

Thanks for putting this up, easy to follow and well presented. Not much info on youtube for these, and they are good locos when working properly, was looking forward to hearing the sound from the chip you fitted, maybe in the future, subscribed to see your layout progress. thanks again.

The front end from my understanding is the end with the fan up top. Bachmann diesels usually have a driver fitted at "the number one end" also. Anyone feel free to put me right if I'm wrong.

Many thanks for your demonstration on the Bachmann 37 i have the earlier version which is whitout the cab lightning & under body switch. I find using methylated spirit is excellent for removing excess grease and grime. Just for interest on the Bachmann 66 after removing bogie frames when reattaching it seems to be easier to hook up at the fuel tank end then click into place at coupling end .

Very nice video. I have many Bachmann Class 37s and find them to be very reliable, great runners, with a good level of detail, especially once the loose pack details are added at the driving end. The screws at the back of the buffers are annoying, bur often they work themselves out once unscrewed such that they can 'wiggle' their way past the buffer back protusion. I too find that I have to use my longest screwdriver to get down to the screw heads and get them out. Nice to see the progress on the new Station also.

Hi Mr Pendulum, this is a really useful video 👍 I picked up one of these 37's last year, a superb model. At some point I'm going to have to service it so this video will definitely come in handy 👋 Thanks for sharing 👍 all the best...Andy

Hi, really good video, I was just wondering what tools you used during the service? Thanks

Thanks! I believe in this video I used an 8-in-1 Precision Slotted and Phillips Screwdriver by Husky (though I think a longer, phillips would probably be more ideal, perhaps the type you use when installing a motherboard). And a basic plastic opener I picked up on Amazon (invaluable). When "zooming in" on the train, I use a basic Jewelers loop.

I’ve got the Bachmann 47 that’s similar in design (under the shell) to this. Never run, but in storage for years…ran it the other day and it’s ran for a while and then just stopped. If you take it off and put it back on the track, the wheels move slightly…possible motor seizing, but is there an easy way to get to the motor to try and lubricate it?

Hi the same thing happened to my Bachmann 47 after storage for around 9 years it was hesitant and jumping especially in reverse . I did fit it with a decoder when new but after refitting the 47 with the original blanking plug it was fine... I did find the decoder had a very small burnt pin hole after dc running and I also found the same problem with a Bachmann class 57 . Bearing in mind that I fitted both locos with Bachmann 8 pin decoders over 10 years ago.
