Your 1x2 bathroom could've worked, the trashcan was colliding with the door, not the sanitizer (Although a 1x3 or 2x2 would've been better to permit a heater). I'm fairly sure the higher the prestige of each room, the better the students learn/satisfy needs. A good rule of thumb seems to be a minimum prestige of 3 to start at creation, with the target of 5+ as time goes on.
