Back Forward - a movie, realized with the Leica Q2 Monochrom

Set to the music of Rio Glacier, Back Forward tells the story of a young woman who set out into the mountains to find happiness again. The film was shot entirely with the Leica Q2 Monochrom. My test report can be found on the homepage of 720 Grad GmbH (unfortunately only in German ;-)):

Back Forward erzählt zur Musik von Rio Glacier die Geschichte einer jungen Frau, die in die Berge aufbrach, um ihr Glück wiederzufinden. Der Film wurde komplett mit der Leica Q2 Monochrom gedreht. Meinen Testbericht gibt es auf der Homepage von 720 Grad:

Toller Film. Bin total begeistert. Musik gleich gestreamt. Wer behauptet monochrom ist langweilig sollte sich mal diesen Film ansehen. Super Qualität. Danke dafür.

einfach klasse, hab mir die Q2M ja eigentlich wegen Fotos geholt.... na mal sehen, das motiviert mich auch mal über Video nachzudenken

Hallo Peter, grossartiger Beweis, dass die Videofunktion der Q2M eben doch nicht überflüssig ist ;-) Ich habe sie schon an der Q2 häufig genutzt und werde sie an der Q2M ebenfalls als Stilmittel zum Einsatz bringen. Danke für diesen tollen Einblick über die Möglichkeiten.

Thank you for this encouraging feedback. The Q2M is indeed something of a mini powerhouse. It's tremendously fun to shoot with and I think most people who shoot with this camera can develop new aspects in their photography.

Outstanding work here, Peter. Very inspiring. Did you have any trouble working with the automatic settings? I would be worried that without full control, the shutter speed would change to a higher speed than I wanted. Seems it worked well for you though.

Hallo Peter, danke für das Video. Hast du das frei Hand oder mit einem Gimbal gedreht. Kannst du sagen mit welchem?

Hi Marco, danke für Deinen Kommentar. Etwa 70% habe ich ab Stativ gedreht, die restlichen 30% aus der Hand und nachher in Premiere noch stabilisiert. Gimbal habe ich keinen eingesetzt.

Danke fürs Feedback. Ich habe etwa je zu einem Drittel mit einem Dreibeinstativ, mit einem Einbeinstativ und aus der Hand gefilmt.

Thank you for this great feedback. Unfortunately I had to give back the Q2M :-(, but I will do projects with other Leica cameras in the future.

Can is ask how you filmed it? What camerasettings? And how did you do the slowmotions? I absolutely love it.

Hi Arjo, thank you for your comment. I set the camera to C4K (4096 x 2160 px) at 24 fps - that's what the Q2M is able to film. The slow motion sequences were filmed in HD with 120 fps. I published a test report in two parts in German - but maybe you can translate it with Deepl. Danke für dieses tolle Feedback. Das Fotografieren und Filmen mit einem schwarzweiss Sensor ist wirklich ein grandioses Erlebnis, und die Files sind - besonders und gerade im höheren ISO-Bereich - von unglaublicher Qualität.

Hi Mel, sorry for not answering earlier, I was out for a photo workshop. I did very little editing in Premiere, it's almost straight out of the camera.

Hi Allen, thanks for your question. I didn't work with ND filters, but some footage is taken with b/w filters, e.g. an orange filter for a darker sky.

Thank you very much for this feedback. I did not have the specific intention of giving the film an analog look. Personally, I think you would get very close to an analog look in post-production, if desired, with the excellent digital source material.
