Couldn’t have a series set in a pseudo-Imperial-Chinese court without including exams! Though the court lady exam doesn’t seem to be quite as competitive as the legendarily difficult exam for Chinese (male) civil servants.

Looks like Ed is fixing to find the answer to some of the reveals in the OP. Xiaomao going to get a lot more exposure to Jinshi and finds Lady Suiren on par with granny.

They have mentioned the ladies at the brothel offer services other than P in the V, like tea, playing chess/go, playing music, singing, dance. Which brings the question, while rear palace eunuchs have lost the ability to soil the emperor's flowers, couldn't they still use their salary at the brothel for companionship and non sex services? Especially is said eunuchs became eunuchs before having a family to support with their salary?

Not just that, but that’s just how it is in China and Japan in general. A lot of westerners have a misguided idea on what courtesans are, thinking they’re just prostitutes (hence why they’ve actually banned foreigners in the red light district in Japan). The more talented ones usually get taught like that (Ed would like Rakugo Shinjuu). Also, eunuchs were apparently used in a similar way to women back then as well. I don’t know the full extent of how it works, but there’s a reason there’s a good amount of homoeroticism in this series. They probably can use the brothels but it’s less about whether they can and more about if they even want to.

The undergarments made of human hair are supposed to be a love spell. Either way, it's indicative of the level of sexual harassment that's become background noise to Jinshi and his household at this point.

Thus is why I don't watch any op's till after the anime season is done. I dont want stuff spoiled for me. I would rather just enjoy the discovery of things as they come. OP's are like knowing the future and I don't want to know the future.

The first song is way better (not that the 2nd is bad by any means), but the visuals of the new OP is just better. From what I’ve seen, the first OPs have more limited visuals but also have better songs that fit the series better. Whereas the 2nd OP has a song that isn’t as good or fitting, but better visuals

Honestly, I disliked the first OP. It might have just been too subtle for me, but I always came away from it feeling like it did an exceptionally poor job of preparing me for what to expect in this show. The second OP did a much better job of getting me hyped each week (and this is definitely personal taste, but I like the song in the second OP better, as well).
