As a previous volleyball player and middle distance runner, I have always had muscular quads, so I thought my low back pain was due to my hamstrings needing strength and stretching in order to counterbalance, and yet it would make my back pain worse! This is so clarifying, thank you!

Especially with the back, every body is so very unique. What works for one person will worsen symptoms for another. Also remember there's always new research coming out that can be a lot to keep up with. We have to figure out which exercises work well for us, and that's a lot of trial and error. If you can find a good physio to help you 1:1 it is so worthwhile, man, they KNOW things. But the general rule is: if it hurts, or your symptoms (numbness, tingling, etc) get worse when you do that, don't do that. If you do 10 reps and it feels better, that's a good one for you. Best wishes!

The one to believe is the one which examine you, collecte precise informations about your pains and explain what is happening in your body. What I really mean is that watching video on KZfaq doesn't replace a professional advice with somebody face to face.

Hi Will, I love that stretch and do it regularly. I do a lot of cycling and my hip flexors get tight. I have had knee replacements though and initially they were too tender even kneeling on a pad. So I used a chair, with arms for support to do that stretch. Perhaps demonstrating a chair stretch like that would be helpful for viewers who have sensitive knees and/or can’t get to the floor. I am really benefiting from your suggestions! Thank you so much😊

Very useful. Thank you! I’m male 56yrs ex sports addict, with a bad back. This video describes my back issues perfectly. I have been referred to a PT through work who gave me hamstring stretches as part of my rehab. My condition seemed to be going backwards. This is very helpful thank you so much. As a further request I went skiing in January and since then have had a very stiff back. I’d really appreciate some longer term back health advice.
