In this tutorial I demonstrate how to do a back splice, a handy way of finishing an end of a rope. Enjoy the video!

My dad once spliced a rope holding a boat on the sea. The thick rope was clearly torn and not well-taken care of. My dad, not knowing who oned the boat, untied the rope and started splicing it. I thought it was the coolest thing how he could make that old rope look nice again. He then proceeded to tie the rope back where it was. I bet the boat owner was really happy when he realized he didn't have to struggle with that mess of a rope anymore! I'm glad I found a video to teach me what my dad did :D

I'm watching this with the sound off because the missus is watching the news, and I can still follow it perfectly and can tell that the voiceover must be really detailed! Thanks, am looking forward to watching it with the sound on-if I need to, that is!! Well done.

I notice your rope strands are twisted anti-clockwise. My rope twists clockwise looking at the end coming out. Does this make any difference to the direction of your first loop in the crown knot?

Mark- I’ve said this before; your video instructions are by far the best out there. They are easy to follow and very informative. I always come away learning more than I came in with. If I may ask, where about sin the world do you reside? Do you ever attend knotters functions? Would love to meet. Thanks again. Don Eshelman from SF Bay Area.

@markthebraider67206 жыл бұрын
Hey! This is a braiders fid. More specifically, it is made by C.S.Osborne, called #477. For working with rope, usually a marline spike or a sailors fid will be more appropriate. But this is what I had :). Mark

Don't keep saying easy its bloody impossible, from the start the crown knot looks nothing like yours and it gets limp and messy as it goes on impossible unless your a professional stopped rewound bid over and over to no avail I d give up
