A string of shark attacks left three people with severe injuries in Walton County, Florida, on Friday. Shark attacks on humans are rare and an official said the incidents happening within miles, and hours, of each other make these attacks extremely unusual. NBC News’ Marissa Parra reports.

Why don’t give drones for the lifeguards ?
@guybeingaguy

Because lifeguards and most humans can see them pretty easily. No need for a drone if people and lifeguards are present. They learned a lesson the hard way. When in the ocean just be aware at all times and not just for sharks.

@@carolhale4331 Drone operators are not cheap $35 an hour and up. Independent contractor $50 an hour and up. Purchasing drones (multiple are needed) are not cheap, maybe $700. Gotta maintain them too, blades, batteries. Your idea is getting expensive. Here in Fort Lauderdale lifeguards are $20 an hour. We invested in nice movable enclosed lifeguard shacks. We Have quite a few fully loaded pick up trucks that roam around. We also invested in ATV’s, both of which current mechanics service. Lifeguards are just fine and have proven themselves countless times. A good pair of UV sunglasses and a sharks distinct features and swimming style means you can see them against the white sand and blue water quite easily. That’s what our current lifeguards do 👍 Go fix something else that’s not broken.

Our area of the Gulf is common for bull sharks. People are clueless as to how close they are swimming nearby. You tell by lookin’ from the dorsal to the tail. What we didn’t know was our bomb mission had been so secret, no distress signal had been sent. They didn’t even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, Chief, sharks come cruisin’. So we formed ourselves into tight groups…the idea was, the shark comes to the nearest man and he starts poundin’ and hollerin’ and screamin’. Sometimes the shark go away. Sometimes he wouldn’t go away. Sometimes that shark, he looks right into ya, right into your eyes. Y’know, the thing about a shark, he’s got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes. When he comes after ya, he doesn’t seem to be livin’ until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white, and then - aww, then you hear that terrible high-pitch screamin’, the ocean turns red, and in spite of all the poundin’ and the hollerin’, they all come in and rip ya to pieces…in that first dawn, we lost a hundred men. I don’t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand. I don’t know how many men. They averaged six an hour…Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, a Lockheed Ventura saw us. He swung in low and he saw us…and he come in low and three hours later, a big fat PBY [seaplane] comes down and start to pick us up. You know, that was the time I was most frightened - waitin’ for my turn. I’ll never put on a life jacket again. So, eleven hundred men went in the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, and the sharks took the rest, June the 29th, 1945. Anyway, we delivered the bomb." Correctly.

Kind of delusional no offense....the ones swimming closely near you in eye sight aren't in attack mode and probably won't.. it's the ones from a distance that are looking at you hut you can't see them that are the bigger concern. They can close huge amounts of distance in the blink of an eye. By the time a shark makes up it's mind it's going to attack you there's no escape unless you are literally right on the edge....and as far as turning your back goes they can be in any direction before they decide to swim full speed under the water at you

People who swim in beach water, lakes, or rivers have death wishes. I love nature but i also respect it. With everything that's happening in our ecosystem animal attacks on sea and land are more common now. Swim at a pool. Not a beach.

Re shark attacks: Can air and sea drones help secure beaches near designated booths attended by life-guards (for viewing drone- cameras on multiple live- stream screens & to operate in-booth drone controls)? ~~~~~ Monitoring dredging, to insure that increased shark access isn't accidentally created, is also very important!!! ~~~~~~~ Ocean swimming isn't just important to the tourism industry, but also to the health & pleasure of local populations. Thank you.

It’s actually the orcas I believe they have been captured swimming 75 miles from those same beaches which is very very rare to see them that close. They hunt sharks so it’s possible that’s what pushed them this close

The panhandle of Florida is full of sharks ! People look down on people catching sharks but you can catch as many sailfish , marlin , and other species of fish you want accept Red snapper you can only catch 2 snappers per year per season which is only for a couple of days per year. There so many snap per out in the gulf there eating a lot of Fish species up. Sound like a good weekend to watch JAWS .

I'm curious to see how many of these people were trying to pet the sharks or trying to get a TikTok. I'm sure the dumb people at Yellowstone wouldn't hesitate to try and hold a shark!

Maybe it's better not to go into the water, just go get the movie Jaws and watch it, you still feel like you need to go to the sea, just rub your selves with pigs blood then go in for the real stuff,
