What a beautiful property and view. Glad made it home safe. I drive propane transport tanker from So Cal, Barstow, and at times to Bishop and Mammoth. I have used Britts time back for bolt in my semi drive tire. Good people.

I loved seeing you guys back at your old/new Idaho property, I've got to imagine that it was a more emotional experience than what was conveyed. I also think this video is a great reminder of how not everything goes according to plan and that you just gotta roll with the punches sometimes. Daniel as on older dude, I really appreciate how you make everything look easy on your channel and everything seems so perfect, Goals! But you sharing this experience makes it all so much more dang relatable. Thanks for everything.

Arch - You're right. It was indeed an emotional experience but one we needed. All the memories of all the hard work we poured into that place really allowed us to reflect on how appreciative we are to have the property. We hope one day we can spend much more time there....Have a great weekend Arch and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

i was on my annual summer tour 6 years ago, in idaho hitting challis for grocerys and bevrages and fuel, 3000 miles in and just leaving town to the south entered a narrow and realized rt rear wheel coming loose, as i got stopped against the wall, the wheel only had 2 studs remaining, at that moment a fed ex truck stoppped to help, used his truck to deter oncoming traffic as road width was reduced to barely one lane, as a mechanic myself, pulled out a long half inch extention and with the small sledge popped all eight studs out, then went road side popped 4 out of other axle, and within 15 minutes was driving back to challis looking for studs, carquest showed some in salmon, 65 miles, im carrying a dualsport motorcycle not only for fun, but this emergency, as i was riding out of rv park next am i see napa close by, go in and 20 minutes later got 24 studs and nuts, of course i carry extra now for both ends, my 1990 dodge w250 cummins diesel with 4 wheel poptop camper is now 500k on the odometer and rolling like it did the day it rolled off the showroom floor, we do 6 weeks every year form august through september, were going back up this next summer, have you been to kirkham hot springs?

Well, I’ve had a few wheel studs snap off. Usually over stressed or loose. I know, not much help but rounding out the holes is usually an indication of being loose. Ask me how I know! Glad you two were able to spend a few days up in Idaho. Cheers!!

There's no way that wheel was "torqued to specs". Wheels don't just fall off. It was either left loose or someone loosened it for you. Possibly someone started trying to rob your wheels, but they never just fall off. On top of that 4 out of five would get you home without a problem as long as the threads on the remaining studs were in tact. There would be no need to deviate direction.

Good to see you guys got back up to Idaho. The scenery in your neck of the woods there is spectacular. Clouds down in the valley in in the drone footage is amazing. Pretty sure you forgot to tighten up the lug nuts on that wheel. I made that mistake myself with identical results on my old beater chevy truck I had back in high school except my steel stock rim was still ok, but the studs were toast. I discovered my mistake when one of the studs sheared off and started rattling around inside the hub cap - ha! Took me a little bit to figure out what was going on since I only would hear when going slow otherwise the centrifugal force above ~20 or so mph would pin it against the inside of the hubcap, and it would get quiet again. I felt like an idiot, but so glad I didn't lose the wheel and have something much worse happen. On little distraction/interruption while you're working on something is all it takes. The good news is you'll likely only make that mistake once in your lifetime. Knock on wood, that's how it turned out for me. I think that was probably 43 years ago and a lot of tire changes since then! Take care my friends!

How’s the taxes and cost of living in Idaho vs California? Many of your Californian followers wanting to escape California would be curious to know.
@395jnky
@395jnky 7 ай бұрын
Our property taxes as a percentage of value are a fraction compared to our property in California. Cost of living is lower in a lot of areas, such as gas/fuel. But since most of our time is spent at our California house, we don't get the benefit as much as we may otherwise would.

Thanks for your reply. I have a home in CA also, but I’m looking to do something similar except I will be purposely changing my address of residence to another state. I love the state of California (it’s beautiful) but can’t stomach anymore how it’s being governed into the ground and wasting taxpayer dollars.

When I rotate the tires on my truck or my wife's Jeep, I torque them at least three, and sometimes four times. Last weekend, I did the ball joints on the Jeep and went around three times before I was satisfied. I go around the pattern cross tightening repeatedly until the torque wrench hits the mark twice without any movement on any stud. As you go around the pattern, tightening, the ones you have already done may loosen a little as the wheel settles. If you can bring it to torque without putting the vehicle on the ground, all the better. Also, NEVER crank it down with an impact. You can run it down snug, but never close to the torque spec. Doing this may lead to a wheel that is just a little off and then settles, especially if you have hub-centric wheels. Broken studs are often from over-tightening, or can be from a loose wheel. Finally, you should re-torque your wheels after 25 miles because they can loosen a bit. I check torque and tire pressure on our vehicles about every two weeks. Since you guys wheel and travel a lot, you might add some good quality studs, extra nuts, and what you need to change one to your tools. And... I think the owner's manual specs 130 ft/lbs which seems excessive for a 1/2 stud. I tighten to 90. If I were going to use 130, I would do it in two stages. Round 1, 80 ft/lbs. Round 2, take it to 130 ft/lbs.

The Idaho property looks amazing with the wintery snow/fog mix in the background. BTW, any plans to add solar to the shop roof and a powerbank? As for your loose lugs..... my son had some azzhole that knows him loosen his lugs on one front tire of my old '97 Taco. My son caught it pretty quick thinking it was a wobbly CV as he noticed grease everywhere and the boot was split (old age). As he jacked the truck up to remove the tire to investigate more, he found all the nuts loose. Luckly for him, he didn't drive too far on the loose nuts and didn't do any damage. We have since replaced the CV axle and saved the old one to reboot this spring for a spare. I think had he driven further and long enough to waddle out the wheel holes as the nuts loosen more, the leverage of the tire against one of the loose lugs could/would be enough to snap a lug stud. You caught yours just in time before a major disaster could occur. As for the azzhole that loosened them on my son's truck, he is an ex boyfriend of my son's girlfriend, but currently dating one of her other friends. He has been properly warned that I own this truck, and I will spend the required time, effort and money making sure he goes to jail if he ever touches anything of mine or my sons ever again. Screwing with lug nuts on a vehicle is a very dangerous venture to persue, and could possibly be seen as attempted murder if an accident came of it.

Yes have experience with lug nuts breaking at speed with tire falling off. Went and ran the rubicon and on the way home drove like crap, made a appt for next day to have shop look at and 1/2 there wheel spacer lugs all snapped off with tire passing jeep. Cost about $3k and took a week to repair.

Hi Mike - The bag is made by NB Expeditions out of Canada...which is great...and the boards are secured to the spare tire using ROK straps. They are flat flexible securing straps. Adds a little weight to the tailgate...but no too bad. Have a great weekend.
