Guys, remember! This video is about buying your first helicopter not learning how to fly. That is why the simulator was never mentioned. Simulators are a great tool and really help. You learn how to fly, but does not help you purchase your first model.

One of the good heli pilots in my club said as a beginner a bigger helicopter can be better as they are jot as twitchy compared to some of the smaller ones, the trade off is more expensive to fix

That is a old-school terminology and thought. That used to be the case but now with the modern FBL units and the helicopters we have a S2 for example flies just like a 600. Helicopter is really the best, but of course the bigger they are the easier they are to see and more presentable in the air, but cost is a lot more in a crash.

I think it should be: 1. Simulator for 4-6 months 2. Goosky s2 3. Raw 420 ( so u learn how to build a heli and a sab would be the easiest for a beginner to understand) 4. Nimbus 550 (low part count, good manual, cheap to fix) 5. Raw 700 :)

I agree with you and there are a lot of good comments here. My 2 cents is I heard one guy say start on a sim yes. Here he is asking about a first real helicopter so John salt feels like you should not use gyro stabilization at all. Go from sim to CP with a teacher if you can. One thing that can relate a little bit is I almost gave up learning guitar because I got a real bad first one that hurt my fingers a lot but my hand muscles were getting stronger I got a better acoustic guitar and it was much better but still I had to struggle a bit. Once I got a top notch electric it was so easy to play that I had no problem with it. Put the work in on small one and if you never forget the throttle hold switch you can crash over and over in the grass with no damage.

Simulators are a great tool to learn how to fly, but yes, this video is about your actual first helicopter not learning how to fly a helicopter. Crashing can be very discouraging and it drives a lot of people away. I was one of those, I learned the hard way no simulator a Flybar helicopter with no tail Gyro. I stepped away for a while because it was just too much. Then got an Align Trex 450 fly bar and I was hooked. I wish I had the options of helicopters nowadays back then!

The S2 is a rugged little bugger, and cheap to fix, ask me how I know.😂 My personal recommendation is get a sim and splurge on a quality radio, for when you upgrade to a good model. Seek help from experienced fliers. Don’t fall into the “I don’t want to spend too much” trap. Crawl, walk, run. You must also have to learn how to set ‘em up too. Steep, steep learning curve. Hi Jeff, Great video that gives a good orientation for beginners. I can also recommend an Xk 110 as beginner Heli. Flies pretty well given the size, very durable and parts are cheap. In Germany parts availability is good, you have to check for other countries. The next level I would recommend S2 or M2. In my opinion the 200 size is the best compromise for orientation training and 3D learning since vis is better and it is less twitchy than S1 or M1. But in a crash you will very likely have some damage which is usually cheap to fix though. Greets Philipp

I loved my blades especially for the local support that slowly died away. Now I'm going to move on to omp/goosky and everything else once I've crashed the rest of my remaining blade parts. My 150s and 180 fusion though are still solid birds. Might hang on to a nano cp or two as well

Great Video!! I started with a Walkera V120. Not good. I wish I would have started with the V450. Much easier to work on. Now days, you have nailed it! I have had a Flywing GPS controller sitting around for a couple of years since they first came out. Got a Flywing 450L V3 pre-ordered and I really like that. It fits my style and built my confidence leaps and bounds (I already could fly the non-gps, okay, though). The new style direct drives are the way to go in my opinion. @@westhobbiesrc8051 yes , and I agree with everything you said in the video. Safety and cost . I got the RS4 now and I am so glad I didn’t buy this first. In the beginning you are going to crash. You will break a few things more than once . Even fly it a bit to close. It happens. I couldn’t imagine what kind of damage or what I may have hit if I started out in a 400 let alone 700. The 200 size is also a good size for someone who likes 3D but doesn’t want to buy a club membership to have to fly and see if they want to progress into a club membership etc. Just thought I’d offer my advice on another way to save money in the beginning. Practicing something new on the sim , completing it a few times. Then going out to try it on your heli and do them efficiently is so rewarding .
