With demand for Back 40 mini firewood on the rise, I need to make sure to stay on top of inventory. The challenge with firewood has always been getting ahead, and staying ahead.

Hi Dan!!😀😀 I wonder if you got a couple old gas or electric stoves and heat treat the wood in the oven and on top your self. Do a few loads per day. If you brough the temperature up to 300 degrees for 10 minutes or so and then just leave it sit for the rest of the time and it should stay above 140 for a hour or more. Shouldn't cost much per batch to do it. Just a thought. Take a couple batches into the kitchen and have Amanda bake them for you and see how it works. Take care my friend!!😀😀💚💚 Logger Al

Maybe add some reflective insulation board under your splits so the solar energy under the glass door is refracted back towards your wood instead of being absorbed into the ground. Like another commentor said, basically you are making a solar kiln. Good job doing some R&D 👍

The process of figuring all this out is the fun part. After y’all master this you will move on to another venture because that’s how Little Bossman’s mind works. He inherited that trait honestly.

I will agree with some of the other comments. Basically, you are creating a solar kiln. Adding some reflective material on the bottom would multiply the heating effect. Reflectix might be something to look at. Menards sells it. Great video. Good luck.

Not sure if this drying process just popped into your mind or if you seen it somewhere but what you are doing is creating a solar kiln. If you do have a few more doors I would recommend looking it up on KZfaq. They work really well.

Dan, you may have to set up an employee suggestion box to get more ideas to try. Using the window to dry is interesting, let us know about any condition issues, but is definitely worth a try. Correct me if I'm wrong , but needing to kiln dry not only hastens the drying process as well as kill of insects within the wood since you are shipping all over the country. Thanks for video's and keep them coming.

Depending on how hot of the temps is in the kiln for drying it can count as heat treating. Kiln drying just removes the water from the wood and takes days...heat treating is getting wood to 140 internal temp for 1 hour.

You should get a old lawn tractor tire or two for the splitting the small pieces for the little boss man. That keeps the log from tipping over and falling off while splitting. I know I saw guys use larger tires to keep the logs and pieces upright and together. Think it might be a worth a shot. And it keeps your sons hands safer. Great channel you have.

Now figure out a way to split mini firewood on the Wolfe Ridge 28C. I'll be working on that myself this weekend. Split-Fire makes the 1165V vertical splitter that might be a great choice for splitting mini firewood and not spend a fortune. Can get it in electric motor or gasoline engine powered versions.

You are so Right on Dan in Firewood Poduction. Staying ahead is always a Challenge. Same goes here. I do thing the Bigger Splits will work better in the Long Run for Little Boss Man to Split up. I do think the Handling should be good and able to produce more. Just hanging out today and Cutting some more tomorrow. Not to much as I tried for more than 1hour but found out its to much for now. Missed Friday Night Live early day Saturday for some new Parts for my MS-260PRO. Getting everything in order so that I can just cut 1day and MAYBE SPLIT THE NEXT. Should be able to make Friday Night Live this week. See you at the next Great Video my Friend.Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.

So random thought, since they are not kiln dried wood, how are you allowed to ship them? Got in trouble for moving firewood from one location to another as it could potentially spread diseases.
@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 20 күн бұрын
That is what I explained as the difference between kiln dried and heat treated. For shipping the wood must be heat treated only to meet the USDA requirements. Kiln drying is to remove moisture, heat treating is to kill bugs.
@Treestofirewood
@Treestofirewood 20 күн бұрын
Who do you have heat treating your wood that can get the core temp up to 140 and over in a few hours? Those kilns have to reach a temperature of almost 300 degrees and those can do it in roughly 3/4 hrs. Kilns that reach 170 degrees need at least 10hrs to reach core temp of 140 or higher. I’m sure whoever you have drying the wood can do it as you are certified to shop the wood. Because I know they don’t mess around when it comes to shipping or moving wood. Just curious on the kiln there using. Great venture your on. Selling wood is addicting isn’t it.
@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 19 күн бұрын
I can't get into many specifics as I have an NDA with the company, but the core temp on smaller wood will heat up quick when the space being heated isn't as large as a shipping container.
