I love that you can make money off of current books in Australia the way you can. Here in the US we have Amazon and other cheap book outlets and its just hard to make a go of it unless you go vintage. Fun trip to watch, thank you!

Okay, my son is a 21-year old and has an Asperger’s Autism disorder from the Philippines; he really sourcing some books and magazines on online platforms when he started before COVID sprung last March 2020, and as of the moment he was very a habit for him; he mainly sourced his items from thrift stores; used bookstores and free library and posted on such platforms (in Southeast Asia they have Lazada or Shopee) if they are on a very profitable and care for some people searching some specific things they buy

Next time you come to the US, check out a set of book thrifts in Niantic CT called the Book Barn- thousands of books! Fun to watch you and Tom thrift together- funny to see that Salvation Army is Salvos and St. Vincent de Paul I’d Vinnies.

Can you believe how your life has changed since you moved to that warehouse! Thank you for taking us along for the ride. You need to tell Thom to stay in his own lane and stick to selling CD’s and DVD’s and not get into books. That’s just wrong. And to quit running ahead of you like he’s in a race. Stay by your side and open the door for you and let you walk in first! Be a gentleman!!!

Thom’s been selling books a long time and he and I work together like a team with them. He has double the amount of book listings in his store then what’s in mine! There is plenty for both of us. He is also often in front of me because I hang back filming the fronts of the stores or talking to the camera etc. He is very much a gentleman, always carrying my heavy bags of books I buy, taking my post to post office, has my car seat warmer on waiting for me etc He’s a good one :)

Another excellent vlog. Tom seems to be mellowing, he actually smiles a couple of times! We went on holiday to a place with 46 charity shops. Filled the car with stuff and our pet dragon was worried he may have to travel home on the roof. He suggested leaving my wife's mobility scooter behind! He can be ruthless sometimes can our Waverley!

There's a Goodwill here in town. They had this bad habit of printing out listings of items for what they were being sold for on eBay. What they are LISTED for is not what someone is willing to pay for! No one bought those items. They were way overpriced. They are worth what the buyer is willing to pay and not a penny more.

Also, Ebay is all over the world not in your town. The chance of something selling at that price has to have right buyer. Anyway Same thing happened in my area in a shop- not a goodwill- I was like good luck. They are now closed.

First time watcher here and this was the next reel after I watched the warehouse video. Thought I would keep watching when Newcastle was mentioned. I was blown away when you guys got to The vacant block with the graffiti before store 16. We had a house fire on that block in 2019!! i find it so hard to resell in Australia so I stopped. People don't even want to buy a mid-designer label dress for $20 that was $200. But I hadn't tried books, if you know what youre looking for looks like it could be profitable.

YES!! THIS! It's hard to not buy those lower end items. It takes a lot of time to hunt for the right things. We shopped all day and walked away from many stores with nothing despite the shelves being full. It feels good, my store has higher quality items being added to it, my ASP is up and sales are increasing as I list the better stuff. It's a good lesson to learn!

It's hit and miss at some while others get put onto our favourites list or a heart ❤️ on Google Maps with some notes as to why we liked that op shop. You could make a vlogg on how to save your favourite op shops onto Google Maps for future reference so as to save time by not going to the overpriced shops

Belmont - (Lake Mac), I'm 10 minutes away from here. The belmont Salvos and Vinnies are terrible, I've never got anything good from them, we only check them out once every 3 months now. The boloroo salvos ebay price items, avoid, avoid, avoid !! You went to only one of the thrifts we go to as the rest are pretty rubbish, next time you're in town hit us up and we will tell you the good ops to hit which weren't shown in this vid, infact we're heading to one today you didn't venture too that has a sale today only 3 books for $1!!! 5 kids books for $1

Amazon Prime got the rights to Warhammer 40k. Theyre starting pre-production on movies and tv shows. Once they announce which series theyre doing the book prices might go up, be on the lookout

When Thom says 20 op shops, ya doing 20 op shops! 😆 I recently visited the Vinnies at Hornsby & the prices were high, but the disappointing thing is the op shops at Asquith used to be really good with very reasonable prices now the Lifeline store is more interested in being trendy & bespoke charging prices to match. I saw an average condition pair of Reeboks for $80, they have lots of stock for a reason. I won't be rushing back. 🙄

Honestly, after that I just get a bit punch drunk and can’t really focus on the books anymore! It is really more fun if you have someone else to go with (another reseller would be even better).

It was a lot and we were on a time schedule to get back so we couldn't slow down. Thom was determined to hit his goal of 20 ha ha You're right, it's so much more fun to thrift with someone else. We really enjoy the little trips away. It feels like we get a reward and a break but also continue working at the same time. It's the best of both worlds!

Yes the savers were in Melbourne. Great selection of books. We don’t have them near us sadly and I haven’t seen any in the Sydney area on our travels.

well that was good run - interesting ambulances, not anything like ours - yes 20 , done that before and is what we gonna do in the UK? - notice no electronics or CRTs TVs , boo.. - yes mcdonalds is changing, we got a few cube ones like that now but no spare rooms that i know considering Pickup is now a major thing as the couriers sit on quarter of the tables and get in the way.

Op shops are shooting themselves in the foot by over-pricing. They look at the listing prices, but online sales have thousands of viewers. Sure, if they sell a $20 book, they don't have to handle all the others for the same profit, but one of the goals of thrift stores should be to help the environment with high turnover.

Yes agree, they have an abundance of inventory and they just need to keep turning it over fast. The problem is they now spend 100s of thousands on fancy store fit outs. The newest store here in Canberra must have cost so much money just to set it up. Op shops don’t need to be fancy.

You have so many cool bookish places to choose from near you! I'm definitely finding the better book options in my local area are running short and I'm now having to figure out what's further afield (in addition to sourcing online). I've also found a relatively local monthly book fair so I'll be trying that next month too.
