Backhand Half-Volley - Padel Technical Breakdown

Most players do not even consider the technique for this shot, but it is a shot they will play ALL THE TIME!!
In this technical breakdown we show how to hit the ball on the rise immediately after the bounce for the backhand.
So many players are "popping up" during this shot or just poking the racket at the ball, but it is important to consider these steps when you play this shot!!

These breakdowns are really useful, Sandy. I do play this shot, but most frequently when I’m caught inching ahead of the line too early in the rally, and it feels like an ‘emergency’ reaction, albeit usually a successful return. It’s good to see the mechanics of it explained, helps me think a bit more about what I’m doing in that moment!

Yes, it is often a shot played out of position (or trying to gain the net position). The key is to stay low and stable throughout the shot! :)

Great Video Mate! One thing I notice from players a lot is that they forget to bend the knees and widen their stance. This forces them to stretch their arms and lose control on the hit. So remember: BEND THE KNEES! Will make this shot a lot easier and give you more control and accuracy.

Nice video sandy! Can I ask you something? Lefty player here, I'm having troubles with balls that stick onto the right side glass. I don't know how to face them, just wait till they go down and hit a backhand lob or anticipate the rebound with a risky backhand?

I'm a right hand player so for me it is the other wall, but the same principle applies. Try to hit the ball when it has some space between the wall. This could be before or after it hits the glass. If its before, usually a half volley works well. After it hits, you can do a high lob, a risky parallel flat, or even it hit back against the side glass so it get a lotnof side spin. If there isn't enough space to hit the ball with confidence, slow your racket speed and hit a mid to high lob. That way you can get back to a good position on your side or even pass the opponents and gain the net

Yes, it is often about making an early decision and like Joe said it is something right handed players struggle with on the other side. I would say that if you are struggling then it is risky going for a lob and probably more sensible to block the ball down...Maybe this video might help: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMyjZNli2szFdWw.html (Obviously for you it is the other way round from the right side, but the same principles apply)...hope that helps!
