July 12-13, 2024. A backpacking, fishing, & KZfaq Meetup with friends in the High Uintas! #uintas #backpacking #fishing #highuintas
We had an awesome overnighter backpacking trip into the Uintas! My better half, Kristy, made it on the trip too. We had a planned meet up with Jennifer Lupine and her husband Steve. The plan to to have fun, get into the backcountry, see some awesome scenery, and catch some backcountry trout! We had an awesome time together and even had a suprise encounter with Justin of Utah Water Log. Awesome scenery, great fishing, laughter, and more!
Enjoy!

Great to see the fish biting again and also great to see you out with Jen and Steve again. Great hiking weather and loved the wildflower meadows but there were some big backpacks being carried there. Fair play that was one great place to pitch and fish, especially when you can get a fire going to chase those bugs away. Superb morning views over the lake and hearing the birdsong and good to see those fish just kept biting again too. Cheers Alan

Wonderful walk up to the campsite. It is the most glorious location. I think the altitude would be a difficulty for us. Highest point in England is just 3210 FEET . So we spend most of our time pretty close to sea level. Great to see Jennifer and Steve with you again. We do enjoy her channel a lot. Steve`s first catch did look great but then you outdid him. It is a fabulous location. Shame the bugs make the evening so uncomfortable. I notice Jen & Steve standing in the smoke for a bit of protection. Wonderful start to day two. Reflections in the still air just so wonderful. Incredibly beautiful part of the world. Hopefully the continuing record breaking temperatures year on year will prompt some serious efforts to slow and reverse the current concerns. Best wishes to you all.

Thank you! The air does get pretty thin up above 10000 feet. It does take time to get used to it. It was an awesome meetup with Jen and Steve. I hope we have many more adventures together! The fishing was fun and we all caught some nice ones too. The bugs were bad but that is common here in mid summer. Once the nights get a little colder the bugs will be gone. Thanks for watching. Have a wonderful day.

Awesome backpacking and fishing adventure with you and Kristy! Steve and I are missing Utah already! (But not the bugs- haha) Fun times, lots of laughs, beautiful lakes and some pretty fish!! Really enjoyed Island Lake and our camping spot… that whole area is pretty, I guess that’s why it’s so popular. I loved seeing Kristy’s fish and how it wiggled a bit in her hands, lol. It was fun learning how to “Jig” this time, good practice and hopefully I’ll catch one next time! Take care guys and we’ll see you again soon!! 🙌🙌👌😄☀️☀️ Jen & Steve 🌼🌼🌼🦋🏔️🏔️🎣🐟

Sure is a beautiful trail. I can't believe Kristy is carrying such a large backpack. Pick those dandelions and make some tea! Glad Kristy was good. So for high elevations, sugar is good? I guess I should look into his a bit more. I mean we've been in high elevation, but not for extremely long periods of time and we have a trip planned that is going to keep us in higher elevation for longer. Best by means nothing. Most foods are good for a very long period of time after those best by dates. Big steps, little steps, all steps wear me out 😆 Nice spot to fish. Good catches. I love that you guys freeze dry your own foods for your trips. I would have wanted a fire to chase all those crazy bugs away too. Man that reflection on that lake is gorgeous. Do love me some biscuits and gravy. We haven't done that in a while. I need to do this again soon. Such pretty wild flowers. Just had to stop for a bit of fishing on the way out lol. Nice catch. Guess that stop was worth it. That fish has an awesome pattern. Wow. That's a lot of people. Those chance encounters are always fun. Great backpacking trip.

Thanks Felix. I am glad Kristy was able to come this time. It was a lot of fun meeting up with Jen & Steve. Kristy's backpack was big because she learned how to pack a lot from me! LOL. Calories and electrolytes help reduce contributing factors that seem to make the altitude worse. The simple cure is get down in elevation. It takes some time to adjust to the altitude. The fishing was fun. We caught some big ones. The views and fishing are worth the effort to hike into these areas. Can't wait to get back up there. We hope to do more freeze dried meals of our own. Should be good on the trail for next time. Thanks for watching. Have a nice day.

@Packsalot
@Packsalot Ай бұрын
That is awesome that you were out with your family making some wonderful memories. Each lake and species of fish are so different. Typically for brook trout I use a Jakes Lure, gold spoon with red dots. For tigers I use a jig and/or a gulp minnow. Tigers are probably the hardest to catch though. Fly fishing or a fly and bubble would be another option. I can usually catch fish using any combination of those methods. Good luck and have a great time! If no fish, no worries, enjoy the beautiful scenery. Have a great day.
