I'm a Nikon shooter as well and I agree with your lens choices. I've come to the same conclusion, that a good wide range zoom is worth the compromise. You can cover a lot of bases with something like a 24-200 and a 14-24. basically taking what would normally require 3 lenses and condensing them down to 2. I just shipped off all my F mount glass and D850 body for sale yesterday and I'm picking up a Z7ii, a 14-24S and a 24-200 for my backpacking trips. 24-200 covers all the bases for video and landscape and the 14-24 can be used in niche landscape shots and also for night sky images. Also for my tripod setup I use an inexpensive Innorel/Artcise brand from Amazon that has turned out to be awesome actually. I have one that id compare to a series 4 Gitzo and then one that is more like a series 2-3. I bring the smaller one with manfrotto 75mm leveling bowl and a Manfrotto 500ah fluid head with a Kirk Arca Swiss bridge adapter... it's a little heavier than a ball head setup but it covers all the bases for shooting stills and video. Then as someone else recommended in the comments I also use Sunway photo L brackets because in my experience they are high quality and cost 1/3 of the RRS or Small Rig brackets. I also give a nod to those F Stop cubes ... I've been using them for a while now rather than spending big bucks on a specialized camera backpack.

Thanks for making this. I spend a lot of time tweaking my lightweight backpacking gear, but now I really want to incorporate high quality photography, and also somewhat on a budget. Not the easiest of endeavors. I’m getting a Nikon D750, Nikon 20mm f/1.8 Prime, and Tamron 70-210 f/4. Tripod, etc. So glad you made this vid. Very helpful to see what others have done.

Great video, thanks, however I'd find the weight of a DSLR and its lenses too heavy for long treks. I am an avid trekker and now I've just got a Leica CL (aps-c) camera 365g with a 27mm equivalent lens weighing 80g and 3cm long fits in any jacket pocket.. The 80-200mm equivalent zoom weighs in at 500g at 11cms goes into the side pocket of the backpack. My hiking pole has a fitting on top where I can screw my camera and use it as a monopod. I carry a small bean bag to rest my camera as I take long exposure shots. The bean bag also soothes sore muscles when heated and applied.

I'm gonna go backpacking and camping with a friend of mine for two days in a national park, I will be bringing my kit lens as it's lightweight than my tele and prime, tripod, batteries and a microfiber cloth. I'm gonna shoot some milky way shots with my tent! Thanks for the tips! 😎🍻

Cool video, thanks. Also cool that you use a Sunwayfoto L-bracket. I used one of their standard camera plates on a Nikon D3S a few years ago, and was quite impressed by the quality of it for such a reasonable price. Way cheaper than Really Right Stuff!

Is that the best pack for larger loads? I have the zpacks 62L and still cannot fit my camera in addition to all the necessary back country equipment. I was considering the Hyperlight 70L

just getting back into photography, picking up a Nikon Z50, my thoughts are being able to use full frame lens and then buying a full frame body later, what are your thoughts.
