I had a wonderful four day solo backpacking trip in the heart of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Located on the south shore of Lake Superior on the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Michigan's largest park at more than 60,000 acres, the park offers over 90 miles of hiking trails and 63 backcountry campsites. The park is known for being the home of the Lake of the Clouds, a scenic overlook.
On day one, I hiked the Encarpment Trails and some of the Lake Superior Trail. The Autumn colors over Lake of the Clouds made for some great views. A sunset over Lake Superior wasn't too shabby either.
On day two, I hiked the Lake Superior Trail to the Mouth of the Big Carp River. I then hiked up the west side of the Big Carp River Trail and cut across the Correction Trail. I then hiked to Mirror Lake to camp for the night.
On day three, I hiked from Mirror Lake up to Lake of the Clouds and then hiked east on the Big Carp River Trail back to the Correction Trail and back to Mirror Lake to camp for the night. It was a cold, rain, wet day. Some good video and built some character...right? Finished the day with a campfire (thanks Bob) by the lake.
On the final day, hiked muddy Government Trail back to my car. The trail features some great waterfalls.

Great job. I've been, with a group, four different times. This makes me want to go on my own and explore some of the trails we usually do not touch. Thanks.

5:22 - 5:26 - those few seconds encapsulate what autumn means to me. That low sun angle at the end of day with mega contrast between color and shadows fires me up like nothing else.

Cold weather backpacking is the best. Not so much when it is wet.

Had a great time there in June 2019. We backpacked and used the Mirror Lake Cabin 8 (just 2 of us as it was the only cabin available). Not sure if staying at the cabin on Mirror Lake was better than tent camping on Superior Lake. We camped @ LC river campsite on Superior and I believe LS#11 which featured a private little waterfall right by our campsite along with big smooth rocks we were able to stretch out on while getting some rays and listening to the waves come in. Totally a peaceful place to camp at either of those sites. Thanks for making the video. Looks like you hiked over 40-45 miles in total, but I wonder how many extra miles you hiked while setting up the camera to capture your hiking!

You did an excellent job with the editing for your video! It was nice meeting you and hanging out around our campfire after a cool wet day. Our video should be ready within a couple of days. Nothing too fancy with my editing, but it still should be a good video. We will have to keep in touch for a future meetup.

We're about to do nearly an identical path to you. How many of those water crossings did you have to do? I know the one you did in the rain was a little sketchy because of the weather, we will have dogs with us and I'm just trying to get a mental idea of the whole trip.
