Having backpacked and hiked most of the trails in the Boundary Water Canoe Area, I thought it was time to check out some canoe routes. On this trip we planned for 4 days in the BWCA. We grabbed a canoe at Sawbill Canoe Outfitters and headed north on Sawbill Lake. Enjoyed some beautiful October scenery. Campfires and delicious food were a big part of the trip.

LOVE the BWCA adventure. Please do more! However...imagine treading water at that temperature, the layers of clothing soaking wet, wind pushing waves, gear floating, gear sinking, checking- is everyone here? It happens. Please wear PFD's.

Yes, more canoeing in the BWCA. Will be making my seventh trip since 2018. Usually warmer in July and August. Enjoy every minute north above the stress line!

Your video was very enjoyable! I like the "idiot" check before leaving camp...and a sparrow named Kirby because he's fat! :) Quite the loaded canoe too...probably a few more creature comforts than a normal backpacking trip. Looked like some pretty good eats too! Thanks for sharing your trip. :)

I see a nice touring kayak in your future. The world of yakpacking awaits! The trail is always flat, you can carry all the luxury gear you want & you're never far from a water source. You should try this out on a mild river (class 2ish) it adds a bit of excitement and risk 👍

You did nothing wrong. Good friends, flexible plans, a knowledge of how to relax with nothing to prov- only the chance to create and share good memories. Well demonstrated!

I was up there this weekend. Very blustery. Didn't look like a great day to paddle. Good choice on waiting.

Made my first BWCA trip last year with a Scout Troop. Didn't put many miles on but they enjoyed themselves. Hope to have an adult trip sometime in the next couple of years but its about a 10Hr drive for us.

You seemed way more relaxed on this one. I just did my first canoe trip last weekend in Wisconsin and actually enjoyed it way more than the few backpacking trips I’ve done. Probably because they’ve all been “green tunnel” areas, where there weren’t many views to take in.

Always enjoy your videos. Fairly certain flotation devise is required in all watercraft. Not necessary to wear, but accessible to each person. Be safe out there.

I enjoyed this video. The food was amazing! It was really nice to have some detail on the meals. On a different subject, I noticed that your gums were quite pale, perhaps you should see someone about that. Could be nothing but best to get that checked out I think. Thanks again for a fun video. Colorado Girl

Great video would love to see more canoeing! Also question about where you rented the canoe from and where you crossed the border at? I assume no cell coverage so did you have to use the in reach? Always fun to follow your adventures!

Sure, more canoe trip adventures would be great. We went on several of these back in the 90’s in the Algonquin Province Park in Ontario. Saw bear, moose, wolves, fox, beaver, and a lot of ground squirrels. Our son caught one, killed it, skinned it and cooked it over the fire. Why? Because he could, not much meat, though. Good times. Thanks! R and J from Northern Indiana

Cool trip. It's funny how different your perspective on a location can be when you see it on trail versus on the water. We've been hiking at a local state park for years and years. This year we bought a pair of kayaks and floated around on the river below the trails. Completely different experience of the area.

What canoe backpacks were you using? Those looked pretty rugged. Might even be good bag for pulks.
