Backpacking to a Remote Florida Spring

Күн бұрынIn late May, my friend Nick and I packed our free diving gear and underwater camera rigs into our backpacks and trekked out to a remote Florida spring in the middle of nowhere. There may not be any mountain passes or steep inclines, but there are still plenty of challenges facing those willing to explore the Florida backcountry, and we definitely encountered most of them. Awesome video as always. What mask, fins and snorkel do you use?

Thanks so much!! The mask is Cressi big eyes evolution, the snorkel is some cressi one with a surface stopper, and the fins are the Cressi Gara 2000HF fins. The fins are my favorite. Still pretty cheap, but just as functional as fiberglass and way more durable

@@josephrickettsphoto The fins look awesome. Cressi makes good gear. I have a Cressi snorkel as well...mouthpiece could be better though.

@@stevepkrajcikiv Yep, they do! I definitely recommend the fins, but do note they are quite long as they are free-diving fins. The mask and snorkel work well - nothing particularly spectacular, but they get the job done.

Is the sizing true to size?

@@stevepkrajcikiv I go a little smaller so I can wear the fins barefoot. I'm a size 13 US and my fins are size 10-11. If I had a tight bootie/dive sock I can still get it in.

It’s in Florida. I don’t give out specific details as the spring is ecologically sensitive and doesn’t have the infrastructure to handle large numbers of visitors. The Florida Springs Institute has lots of info on their website if you are looking for springs to visit. Thanks for understanding 🤙🏼

As a general rule I don't give out locations to these areas unless they have adequate infrastructure to support sudden influx of visitors. This is to ensure that my videos/photos don't have a detrimental effect on theses sensitive ecosystems. I do recommend checking out floridapringsinstitute.org - they have a map of springs around the state of FL as well as tips for minimizing your impact when visiting. Thanks for understanding and I hope you get to visit one of the springs in FL! If you've never been, Silver Springs state park is a great place to start!
