Thank you! I definitely prefer traveling by boat when I can. I do think this particular spring is tough to get to by kayak - not saying it's impossible though, just lots of downed limbs in the run.
@Caston170521 күн бұрын
@@josephrickettsphoto I went the first time launching around 2:00am at a landing. I went early because we had some bioluminescent in the water. I was there trying to get those and the Milky Way. After I couldn’t get what I was wanting I decided to paddle to the spring. Just before daylight, I noticed the water was colder and I finally notice clear puffs of water. There was a lot of pull overs, but it wasn’t too bad. Anyway, it’s a nice kayak but getting to where the spring starts is a long stretch to get to. I’m glad you got to go. It is a great place for gar and snapper in the winter. FYI, the spring that runs parallel to it is a beautiful paddle also.

I’m curious why you are using a dome port, and not a flat port, with a macro lens?
@josephrickettsphotoАй бұрын
@@PeteRimkus A great question (and observation). I don’t have a flat port right now for my R5 housing and I’m cheap haha. I do have an extender that lets the 100mm fit though, and I haven’t noticed any loss in image quality for my uses. But flat port is definitely the standard way to go for sure!
@josephrickettsphotoАй бұрын
@@PeteRimkus biggest downside is probably that it’s harder to get close to a subject with the giant dome port
@PeteRimkusАй бұрын
@@josephrickettsphoto yeah that was what I was thinking, because at least since it’s a macro lens it could focus close enough for the virtual image inside the dome. Great shots and video though! I also totally understand as I also try to find the cheapest option that works.

this is amazing! how do you manage underwater photography while freediving? do you need to do anything special to maintain bouyancy or to remain stationary?
@josephrickettsphoto2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! In most of the freshwater environments I’m diving in, depth fluctuates a LOT so the flexibility of free-diving is nice. I use a dive belt to primarily help with my own buoyancy - my camera rig is just barely positive, so a heavy belt helps me stay down and then I can be pretty nimble from 0ft-30ft. My wetsuit is pretty thick (5mm) so I use 15lbs+ for shallow underwater work
