I travelled from Peru to Colombia on a Cargo Boat down the Amazon River

Backpacking Bananas

Күн бұрын

So this is my experience travelling on a Cargo ship down the Amazon River from Iquitos in Peru to Leticia in Colombia. In total it took 40 hours. I purchased my own hammock which I slept on for 2 nights. The whole thing only cost 80 soles (around £18) and that included 3 meals a day! Your travel time is never guaranteed so you just stay on that cargo ship until you reach your destination!
I had a bit of difficulty getting my passport stamps to correctly exit Peru and enter Colombia on arrival, but I got there in the end!

ABOUT ME🙋🏻‍♀️
I'm Christianne, a solo traveller, vlogger and entrepeneur from Surrey, UK. I spend half my time exploring new places around the globe with my backpack, and the other half creating videos about my experiences, what I'm packing, solo travel advice, money budgeting tips and anything else in relation to my backpacking lifestyle.

FAQ's
How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these KZfaq videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using www.backpackin...
Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

Christii! What a great great vlog. As a Peruvian woman I am always so afraid of doing new things in my city and out of it too, because of the possible dangers we see in the news for women traveling alone. But seeing you, so brave, determined, smart and gracious at this boat and during your whole time in Peru, I'm truly inspired and motivaded by you. I will start traveling soon to the places in my list. I'm a fan and I'll continue watching your videos in Colombia too. My besh wishes, you are awesome!

I’m glad things worked out for you at the Colombian Leticia airport because there is another English content creator (bald and bankrupt) that was just in the same area you are in this video and he had his passport stamped getting out of the boat in Santa Rosa Peru and after crossing the Amazon, he got the entry stamp for Colombia right at river bank. Good luck to the rest of your journey in Latin America. My apologies if people are not always helpful with you in Latin America

I could never understand how so many backpackers through this region would travel between countries without bothering to get entry and exit stamps. I thought they were just goofy, inexperienced, or had poor Spanish. But I can see how confusing it can be if you're not insistent and assertive and you don't ask enough questions. I hope lots of backpackers watch your video and learn from it. Backpackers encounter the same issue all over the region when crossing by land or river between Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia.

My mom and her family were raised in Peru and had many adventures in the jungle and river. We recently had a family reunion and now some of my aunts, uncles, and cousins want to take a 10-day journey on another route down the river and rent a whole boat for JUST them! To me, the idea in theory sounds great but I am NOT sure how well I could cope doing this! If I was young and in my twenties and as flexible as I used to be then maybe but good for you for being adventurous and brave enough to do this...thoroughly enjoyed this clip!! All the best and I look forward to your other videos! :)

My Spanish isn’t great so it will be a challenge for me. We went back to bogota then Cusco after leticia. Can’t wait to do the slow boat through. I’m going to subscribe and watch more of your videos.
