Stood 3ft in front of Hooky in a small Aussie Pub on Sydney North Shore back in 85 as New Order played a secret warm up gig for their Tour ... place was packed - they played all the early New Order songs and a few Joy Div tracks ... there was no stage riser so the band were on the same level as the punters ... classic night.

true, those two tracks stand out a mile, the rest of the album isn't great. In fact, even though they are one of my fav bands, they have never been an album band for me
@BCTMarcus6 жыл бұрын
I love those two, too. But my favourite is 'Leave Me Alone'. Maybe because that's the least 'Power, Corruption & Lies' song on the album... well, dunno. Vocal, guitars, bass, drums and a modest synth. A great Dance of Melancholy.
@LegPuppy6 жыл бұрын
the bass guitar is great on this, such a simple song. his singing is all out of tune but somehow it doesn't matter. The version of 586 live at Bestival sounds great

@@LegPuppy Same feeling here. They've recorded some fantastic stand-alone singles and have had an equal amount of great singles lifted from albums. But New Order haven't released one album that I can listen to from start to finish. "Low-Life," "Brotherhood" and "Technique" come closest to perfection, but each one of those have at least two, probably three songs I can't sit through.

The more humble beginnings and demise of Joy Division being able to bank that jump to expensive synths made the New Order sound and sincerity that much better than many of the other bands at the time.

Movement a Joy Division album with New Order singing, hmm maybe that’s why Movement to me is their best album as a piece. Not saying that their later albums did not have moments of excellence, they did, but as an album I don’t think they ever bettered Movement. Right will whip out my copy of Power now and have a listen.
@NumptyGrumble6 жыл бұрын
I don't remember being that impressed with Power Corruption and Lies when it came out, after the Temptation 82 remix and Fac 73 hype it seemed more introspective and didn't have the atmosphere of Movement, will need to listen to it again with new ears. Nice interview

By Hook or by Crook, Blue Monday was touched by the magic wand of genius. Indeed that music tech was way out of reach of many normal people in the 1980's. I could afford only one item, an Akai S612+MD280, I think the LM1 was £7000 which was price of a house. I think even Jim Kerr of Simple Minds said the music tech they bought at that same time was huge money, jokingly he said almost making them bankrupt .
