Dimash has done several covers of popular 'western' songs. [ Checkout his version of Lionel Richie's "Hello" - for one. ] The original Opera #2 is a Vitas song first performed around 2000. Vitas [Vitaly Vladasovich Grachev], is a Latvian Born - Russian singer , song-writer and actor {now 43 years old} who is known for his unique falsetto and his eclectic musical style, which incorporates elements of operatic pop, techno, dance, classical, jazz, and folk. [ *Wiki ] He was also known as somewhat of a child prodigy musically. Vitas is also very popular in China - where he has performed many times. So, you know; Dimash is by no means the first artist to explore across many genres of music. Vitas took his version up 2 levels whilst Dimash went 2 levels higher. Vitas does not have the operatic vocal training of Dimash, nor the reach strength and volume in the higher range. There was a formal legal complaint from Vitas / his management over this 2017 performance by Dimash of Opera #2. Many of Dimash's fans claimed it was pure professional jealousy as Dimash had undoubtedly done better than the original, however, it was apparently to do with the Singer Show management failing to obtain the correct {Copyright} 'permissions' from Vitas. Vitas eventually gave a one off copyright consent for this to be aired, but has said - allegedly - he would not provide ANY further permission for Dimash to sing ANY of his songs anywhere EVER again! (So make of that what you will ! Does sound like a massive 'dummy-spit' to me! The SMART thing would have been for Vitas to offer to perform a few shows together with Dimash - however...) # Dimash, for his part, who has said he has always admired and respected Vitas, has, as stipulated, not performed this song since, however, he has no control over public on-line access to this particular {and wildly popular!} clip, aired by the Singer show. And we're all happy about that! The staccato piece, which some have also said is 'Just Dimash 'showing off,' you will see him do in a number of other songs. Apparently he introduces this deliberately to prove that he is indeed singing Live, and not to a backing / pre-recorded track - as some have tried to suggest. { Dimash always sings live and perfectly pitched, it's just that some people - who perhaps cannot? - want to believe otherwise.} 😆👍

In answer to your question about where in his career this song came, you answered it at the beginning of your video! This is episode 2 of the Singer show. "SOS" was episode 1, so they were 1 week apart. But by then, Dimash's popularity had exploded all over China.

The 2017 ‘Singer’ contest was the launchpad for Dimash to be known world-wide, although he did win the Slavic Bazaar (a big international competition) in 2015. In this series of ‘Singer’, the theme was song covers, so Dimash was only allowed to perform one of his own compositions (‘Unforgettable Day’). The rounds were weekly - this was the second week, and the organisers had originally thought that Dimash wouldn’t last much longer in the contest, as he was completely unknown in China. (However, the Chinese public took him to their hearts and he made it through all 14 gruelling weeks to the final!)

This was my 1st Dimash experience about 9 mths ago. I love it. Suggestion: The guy in the little box? We can hear his comments but we can't see his reaction. Not to mention that it is a bit distracting having the little box on top the video. That box needs to be dropped below the video and enlarged. Physical reaction is just as important as verbal. The sound from your mic isn't really crisp. It has kind of an echo type effect (best way I can describe it, sorry) Looking forward to more Dimash.
