My only concern with your method would be having your fingers between the rope and the tree during your move. If something were to happen and you fell, that's really going to do a number on your fingers when that rope tightens on the tree. Innovating the Outdoors makes a 3D printed t handle that allows you to move the rope without having your hands under the rope. I one stick and move my repel rope in a similar way, but it's always on my mind about falling and getting them caught.

Definitely liking the method of climbing with the tether… You don’t have to switch ropes at the top, and as the bark tears up your rope you only have to buy one rope to replace your set up… I run latitude outdoors method 2 saddle, it’s metal free and if not the most comfortable on the market, it’s top two… TX5 i’ve heard is the most comfortable and they have joined forces with latitude so I imagine good things are coming. I also just picked up Lonewolf custom gear “the fix” saddle platform. With the upward cam technology, wow, does it bite the tree HARD. Can’t bring myself to attach anything to the tree with Amsteel, I love a good cam buckle. I recently saw a hack where you cut a yak grip in half and slide it over the buckle. Totally silent and the button still works as should. Your set up is a touch noisy, but for $30 worth of stealth strips, I’ve been able to tape everything I needed to! Thanks for the tips man, I’ll be subscribing and liking your videos!

I also run beast sticks, they grip the weirdest trees rock solid, but the packability sucks… It’s a sacrifice I guess because they stand off the tree more than any other stick. Quite comfortable actually. When my Lonewolf backpack straps arrived, I’m going to attach them to the saddle platform and try and tie everything up to it. 😂

That's great! Thanks! Depending on where you are hunting, packability may or may not be a huge deal, but there is usually a tradeoff, right!

Everyone does it a little different. It’s just the way I like to do it. Some say there’s a concern of smashing fingers if you fall but so far I haven’t had any issues. Just something to think about. Amsteal honestly is much stronger and less forgiving than a traditional cam buckle. But, just do what you are comfortable with. Thanks for the comments!

I'm new to this saddle hunting method and have spent alot of time researching and I've wonder about doing this recently because I just don't like the linesman rope. So I will be hitting a tree tomorrow to try this out

On average 18-20 feet. I’m a shorter guy so I can’t separate the steps as far as some people. With the aiders I can get close to 24ft if the tree allows. Thanks for the question. We appreciate it.

@Backwoodspursuit got the time to try your method of using the tether to climb and my man you are on to something. Also instead of zip ties I used paracord cause I didn't wanna go buy a color to match and it works for me. Thanks man for the great info

I would be careful holding on to your rope with both hands when moving it, if you ever fell you’d pin both hands to the tree and you’d be stuck hanging there until someone found you or you degloved your fingers, that’s the reason many guys use a lineman’s 15:19

@stpaul08592 ай бұрын
I am 99% positive that it is illegal to trim limbs and branches from trees on pubic land in ky. I could always be wrong. Locating the law is difficult. I did find that you cannot cut down trees or screw anything into the trees or damage public habitat in anyway. But specifically referring to trimming limbs I did not find.

Thanks for the comment...always worth double checking the regs. Thanks for watching!

On certain public WMA or conservation land it is 100% illegal to cut or trim limbs. However, it is not illegal at all on private land and most public hunting property. It does vary some from public to public so check the regulations for that specific property. Great comment and a need to know for public hunters.
