In this Magpul Bipod review we look at the Magpul Bipod, both the qd sling stud version as well as the Magpul Picatinny rail bipod. This is a lightweight rifle bipod that is a great hunting bipod that offers both pan and tilt functions and super smooth operation.
One common question though, is, is it supposed to wobble like it does? Well, we look at why it was designed that way and how that can actually aid in your shooting. the Magpul biopod "wobble" is well documented, and you may think it's a bad thing unless you understand the why behind the design. It still won't be for everyone, but it's a fantastic hunting bipod that is affordable and lightweight.
Make sure you are subscribed to this best rifle bipod series as we go through each of these in detail in individual videos.

It’s worth noting that the pan function can be locked independent from the cant. It’s less “wobbly” with the pan locked out as well.

Was thinking today about adding a detachable Magpul bipod to an AR. Already have a good Harris bipod, but it's heavy. Today ordered a Magpul M-LOK sling stud for detachable bipod mounting, and will later get the sling stud version of your Magpul bipod. Will be able to easily attach and remove, I think. As I wrote today in commenting on your 511 soft rifle case video, just found your channel today, great channel, videos really well done and informative. And THANK YOU for your choosing not to include annoying background music in your videos. Will try to point other viewers your way.

Sounds great and thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Keep in mind that the sling stud version does not have the pan feature...only tilt, if that makes a difference to you. I appreciate the kind words and thanks for watching.

@@BackwoodsPursuit Yep. Right after making that comment, saw and replied to Gunpowder’N’Lead comment. So now I think that for now I'll mount that Magpul M-LOK sling stud for detachable bipod mounting that I have coming from Amazon and use it to use my Harris bipod. Then eventually get the Magpul picatinny version of bipod to have that pan feature and mount it using a quick detach MLOK picatinny section. I want to be able to put it on and take it off pretty easily.

Hawk talon feet make it bite well for loading it forward. The stock rubber feet are slippy I found. Can't beat it for price and looks.

so I have a savage BMAG 17WSM and A Ruger VT in 223 that has 2 sling swivels on the forend, was the mount you were using for this using both of those attachments or just 1? If both, can you tell me which mount it was? I have the magpul bipod mlok on both my 223 wylde and 224 Valkyrie and love them, but would like to get them on my bolt guns. Thanks

Hey there! Yeah, I replaced the two sling studs on that Boyds stock with their picatinny rail so that used both sling studs to install. I just used the back end of the pic rail and attached a sling there. Thanks for watching!

Is the one swivel stud enough for QD? I feel like having the one point of contact wouldn’t be as good as the two for m-lok or even versus the Picatinny rail
@BackwoodsPursuit

Hey there! Yeah, the model for the swivel stud isn't quite as stout as the Picatinny or M-Loc, but it's still plenty stable. Thanks for watching!

@Dude you most definitely can NOT pan/track with the sling swivel version of this bipod. It will cant/tilt the same (scope/lateral axis leveling), but only pan/track you can do with it (yes, in the pan/unlocked position, not 180 to the marked lock position) is the built-in flex/wobble (max 5 degree of 'forcing' the deflection, not how you want to pan/track and shoot). Here's a vid to see the limit exactly, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mKlgrbVlxs2tZpc.html. Buyers of the sling swivel stud version beware.

the cant seems like it's just not tight enough... I might get used to the /wobble/, but not sure about that loose cant.
@BackwoodsPursuit

Hey there! The tension of the cant is adjustable, so you can make it more or less loose depending on how you like it. Thanks for watching!

Came here from your "MOE vs Magpul Bipod Comparison" video. To learn about the wobble. That would be a no-go on a benchrest 6.5CM. Especially a semiauto where followups matter.

Yah i got one model. It wobbles like crazy yet wont pivot. Absolutely not for any form of precision shooting. Junk for the price. Twice the cost for half the value

Yeah, they are very different for sure. I believe the Pic rail mount option pivots, but the sling stud mount does not. Thanks for watching!

Kinetic Development Group, LLC sells on Amazon a Kinect 3 slot picatinny rail that connects to MLOK using spring loaded connectors. I use them to attach weapon lights to ARs. Not sure if it would all fit, don't know why it wouldn't, but you could click one of those on the bottom of an MLOK rail, then attach the picatinny MLOK bipod to that, which could both give you that stability and be able to remove it easily at the same time. I may try that, myself. Edit: Right after making this reply, I learned that Silvan Arms (their website by that name) has a wide variety of quick detach picatinny rail pieces that connect to MLOK.

@@fog8969 thanks ill try and give it a look through. Rn im just swapping my one good one from gun to gun. I have a limbsaver also and its good for a cheap light one but i want a real solid with wider stance for the magnum. Its my fault i got a magpul basic version as theyre not for precision so much as tactical light and quick field support. Lesson learned. Id rather have a bog bulky sled more than anything if nothing at all. Its a million bucks to have a stable platform in precision.

Panning on a bipod is so dumb. You can't swivel the rifle around the axis of the bipod WITHOUT repositioning the shooter so why bother. Also you bipod had a LOT of bounce during your demonstration. The wobble isn't the problem it is the bounce when the feet leave the surface they were on before the shot broke that is the problem.
