The soil looks weak. You need more compost/organic matter and mulch helps with both of those.

Yall need yards of manure mixed in with compost an inch under the top of the soil. If ur not already layer with woodchips on top. The farm I volunteered at also puts down a weed cover tarp with holes cut for seedlings that still allows water and air transfer. Keeps the pumpkins and vines out of the dirt allowing them to be less susceptible to advantageous insects and rot.

ooo this! woodchips were so vital in keeping my pumpkin plants safe ! i think it helps to retain the moisture in and less pests to eat the squash. honestly i tended to them almost daily, rotating them once they start growing to get a strong vine

If they died suddenly it's probably squash vine borer. You can either put insect netting over the young plants for the first month of so or apply BT spray, which is organic, on the plants every week. Also you can mulch the stems for added protection.

Throw all your rotting foods out there first and really get it stinking lol then till it in. Once you’ve added the pumpkins continue to use it as “compost”. My friend does this and hers are so glorious and long. She using the same area but she just throws the seeds and lets the m do their thing. She puts them out after the fall season and they come back every year. Good luck. Keep trying.

Make hilled rows. As they grow bury various parts of the vines. You may have had bore worms. This will allow the plants to root at multiple locations ensuring survival. Reduce fruit production to 2 pumpkins per plant. This will eliminate stress on the plant. Mulch under plants to retain moisture in soil. This makes your watering more beneficial. Fertilize the soil just before planting and every few weeks after. Pumpkins take a while to grow. Your plants need food. 😊 good luck!!!

We cut three of the six almost all the way down to nothing. Three of them hadn’t been killed yet, so we just sprayed those. The other three we sprayed and now we are waiting to see if they’ll grow back or if they are too far gone. Next year I’ll spray here and there early on before aphids have a chance.

I've heard from multiple sources that squash, pumpkin, & melons don't like their roots disturbed, which makes it impractical to transplant them. Supposedly, if you correctly direct-sow for your region, these plants will just slightly outstrip your early hot-house-then-stunted transplants. Idk enough to know why those all died at once, though. That has me stumped.

That’s what happened to mine last year because of the squash vine borer. Search on that. There’s a lot of squash bugs or stinky bugs but they were not the reason my pumpkin and squash plants died, it was primarily caused by the stem borers.

You need to amend your soil, it looks very dry and grainy (Also don't till your soil unless you plan to amend it it does alot of damage to the microbiome) I have similar soil and I couldn't grow a damn thing until I started implementing Hügle Mounds, extra deep raised garden beds and permaculture style planting This summer set aside any and all: -Grass clippings -Fallen branches and logs (make sure they're NOT black walnut) rotten logs are great! -Start a compost bin/pile if you haven't already -Literally NOTHING should be going out when you have yard waste day other than black walnut Here's what you NEED to do this autumn when you put your garden to bed for the winter: -Either dig trenches or place deep garden beds into your growing area Fill them with all the garden junk and compost you've collected over the summer -Put ALL raked leaves into your garden area or on top of your mounds/beds -SOAK each garden junk layer with water -top with dirt and by spring you'll have a *great* garden I've done this method for the last two years and TRIPLED my yield My garden is doing so well that I'm actually experimenting with Atlantic Giant pumpkins this year! This method is great for dealing with poor soil quality as well as better for the environment and local pollinators because they lay their eggs in fallen leaves and other yard junk

For me, squash bugs and vine borers have been my biggest problem. So, this year I'm planting tomatoes, peppers and beans, and, yup, one raised bed for squash. Gonna have them climb a trellis, if that makes any difference. Also, planted two boxes with about 20 Zinnia plants (cut flowers). I'm expecting the squash to destroyed by bugs, but who knows.
@alwaysnaked7642
@alwaysnaked7642 Жыл бұрын
I would double or triple the size of that bed. Rework and aerate the soil also if you have wood ash and plenty of it I would also incorporate that into the soil. Til, til, and til some more. Let it sit for a day or two. Break the soil, water it, let it sit until dry, at least one more day with plenty of sun, next morning a little before sunrise start digging your holes. Depending on the size of the seedlings about four or so inches down spaced apart by twenty four or thirty six inches apart. They need room to grow, and plenty of water. Everyday while they're little as they noticeable get bigger than every other day to at least once a week when they are just about ready for the fall harvest. Plant early spring tend to and take care all summer and by mid October should turn out great. Oh you might also try some miracle grow as well some Pruning of the tendrils they are known to choke out any near-by competition for food sources. Hope this helps. As mentioned by other's a soil composition wouldn't hurt, but that soil looks to acidic. Just saying, again I hope this helps y'all out. I wish you all the best with the gardening and may all the coming seasons bring you and yours a bountiful harvest for many years to come. Peace

Look into a soil test before planting them again. A soil test is 15$ at your local university. Also look into a bacteria that will kill root rot the only thing that can kill all of those in a day would be root rot. Larger leafed plants like pumpkins can also be a home for powdery mildew so use sulfur spray or something to prevent that. Only spray at night.

Corn,beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, maybe do a smaller patch of pumpkins ,beets, cabbage, turnips, mustard greens.. Are whatever you like. Plant the climber alone the fence areas.. and even plant flowers along the fence areas as well... Gotta have flowers to attrack pollinators for your veggies and fruits your planting.. Also wanna make sure what your planting can handle the amount of heat that space gets . Make sure your soil is rich as well by adding good compost ,or top soils that have compost and sand in them and even adding mulch can help also.

Put some compost in there, direct sow the seeds instead of transplants & mulch after. Give the pumpkins another chance with better care and they’ll reward you for it

if you do pumpkins again, fertilize and water enough. but I vote for flowers...as they'd look sooo pretty in that space in rows. It'll be a lot more fun...and more work but beautiful work.

Berries! There’s so many different types of berries you could grow. Maybe avoid raspberry and black berry unless you have it contained in a separate area from anything else you’re growing. I have both in my yard and it’s a battle each spring and summer to prevent them from spreading to the rest of the yard/garden.

My best tip is just let a couple pumpkins rot in place and then cover in dirt. Separate the sprouts and then voila.

Grubs!! Watch for those guys in the stalks. They will burrow in and cause havoc by essentially eating through the stalk at random points. The stems will look as though all the green was sucked out of them. Look for tell tale holes that have evidence off burrowing (aka: stuff that looks like sawdust) underneath the hole area in little clumps. Best treatment is prevention but if you aren’t planning on eating them a little Mallet 2.0 goes a long way!! Good luck!!

I definitely think you should try again. With just a few things different. I think you should till in some manure and other amendments. Those plants are heavy feeders and basically sucked up all the nutrients from the soil. Get a soil test so you can get back to equilibrium and know what amendments to add. I think you should cut down the crop from 52 to around 30. Pumpkins and watermelons need a lot of space so they don't choke each other out. If you want to get pumpkins of a decent size cutting down the amount of plants is gonna give them more room to grow. This time get some mulch or leaf mulch cause it's organic matter. It will give nutrients wall providing a weed barrier. If you don't wanna go the plastic route of course.

Use the heavy duty weed block, cover your whole area, cut x into weed block where you want the pumpkins planted, let them spread over the weed block, it will control disease, retain moisture during the heat, and obviously control weeds or grass from incrotching on your pumpkins, good luck

you must make a small greenhouse with some clear glass with white borders or just a reading room with lots of light and pillows and a bed like you planned near the pool area and this is a more efficient place
