My dad was the same way and he would have loved to watch your videos. I truly hope people who watch you learn these old school methods that really work and get you through some mechanical tough spots. People like you are extremely hard to find these days and very underappreciated. Please know there is still some of us old school fixers that love what you do and are learning new things from your channel that are worth more than money to us. Thank the folks that add entertainment and fun to this channel we love it. God bless you and the boys.

Hondas rock. I had a 1969 CB 450 DOHC and a 1975 K5 CB 750. I beat the hell out of those things. The 750 didn't care but I had to replace the pistons and crank on the 450. Trying to keep up with my friend's 750s on a 450 didn't work out real well, but I learned a lot about engines in the process. Nice bike Kerwin.

Back in '76 I bought a '73 CL350 with the Red and White tank. Was a nice machine. Got my first and only speeding ticket on it, going 95 in a 55 south of Attica, IN. on Rt.41 on the way to Turkey Run state park with my little brother on the back. Luckily the cop wrote down 75 in a 55 so I wouldn't lose my licence, since I was very respectful during the stop. Sadly my brother got into an accident on it a few years later when he rear ended an accident between two cars. He was wearing a helmet, which saved his life. But it still cost him the sight in one eye. And the CL was totaled btw.

Nice video, last year I got a 64 Honda s90. It was a friends of mine that had it when he was a kid and it's been in his dad's shed every since. He asked me if I wanted it and I told him yes. I told him I was pretty positive he could come by and ride it at the end of the day and by the end of the day it was running just fine. Seeing the smile on his face was awesome he hadn't ridden that bike in over 40 years.

I used to have an old 1967 CB160 a long time ago. My dad bought that bike so that his boys had something to tinker with. By the time it was handed down to me (1973 ish) it was running pretty good. I remember getting that bike where I turn it loose and let it fly. 85 mph with me laying across the tank. Electric start and (titty grip) handle bars. A little while back I found a repair manual for it and got to take a trip down memory lane. I’m 62 now and still fond of it.

When you order your parts you will need a new clutch while your rebuilding. The slipping on the crank arm was because it sit for along time and the clutch harden up and will continue to slip under load easy and not expensive. great find!

Taryl to the rescue again. A buddy of mine wanted to give me a Honda 350 four, and like a bonehead, I figured I already had enough things to work on, and didn't take it. I wish I would have grabbed it. Now I'm working on rebuilding a cbr1000rr engine, that spun a rod bearing. Sent the crank down to APE to get it welded and reground.
@jeffreydevoti70003 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a 6 volt horn on a 12 volt system. Forget cleaning the gas tank, just put big clear fuel filter on it and knock rust out occasionally. If your running e10 ethanol gas, that could make it harder to start, and would need to be jetted richer just for the 10% reduction in power. Not to mention melting rubber seals.

I personally suggest find the original airbox. I have read trying to tune one with aftermarket pipes and airfilters are almost impossible to do without a miss somewhere in the powerband.
@Hjerte_Verke2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, agree. This thing will never be a super powerhouse with a mere hi-flow filter and rejetting {why bother} so its best to run it the way Honda intended, plus the factory airbox actually protects the A/F mixture and provides optimum air filtering. Cone filters aren't substantial enough to exclude rainwater and since it's a scrambler {trail bike}, crossing streams is fairly out of the question too.

The 3mm, 4mm and 5mm screws in that bike are JIS. The modern metric threads on those size screws are different so save your points screws because if you substitute modern thread screws for the JIS on the points plate your points plate threads will be stripped. Ask me how I know.
@Watchyn_Yarwood2 жыл бұрын
JIS, or Japanese Industry Standard screws are just different enough in shape that Phillips drivers will not fit well and slip/strip them. The difference is in the leading angle of the point of the driver. Phillips bits have a larger angle and therefore don't bottom out in the JIS screws, causing slippage
@ralphwatten24262 жыл бұрын
@@Watchyn_Yarwood Yep, that's true too. The biggest pain for me was when the Japanese went from JIS to International Standard Metric in the 3, 4 and 5 mm. Just enough difference in thread pitch to really mess up a vintage Honda.

Would like to see you go through it. Not a bad price. Congratulations .
@handyhippie65482 жыл бұрын
the only reason i broke down and bought a set of jis screwdrivers was that i got tired of stripping out the screw heads. i like to swap out the bolts with stainless steel allen head fasteners on the bikes i build. makes them easier to remove in the future, and the stainless doesn't react with the aluminum as bad. bonus, they look cooler than the ratty, half stripped screw heads that are what you get when the last person who worked on them didn't use jis drivers.

Another great motorcycle project, guys! I have a similar "some day" project too; a 1966 Honda 305 Super Hawk, just sitting in my shed where I parked it, years ago. At the moment, I am working on a 1973 Yamaha GT-MX80A that has a stripped spline on the kick starter shaft. How to repair? Carefully welding the kick starter on the damage splined shaft would probably work, but not my first choice. I am looking for other ideas as a replacement kick starter splined shaft is not available.
