People were saying how good he looked in the Bad era, Dangerous era, and the era's after that. You people had no idea how much Michael was sexualized by the fans the older he got. He couldn't even go on stage without fans whistling at him or shouting inappropriate comments. In speeches, the only thing that could be heard in the audiences were flirtatious whistles, inappropriate comments, and screams. People definitely didn't consider Michael ugly, especially as he got older. He had to deal more with being sexualized and violated by the public then being bashed for his physical appearance. Michael was seen as more of a heart throb in the late 80s and the later years then in the 70s to the early 80s sksksk. That probably did make him slightly uncomfortable though, fans would go as far as to trying to kiss him and touch him.

@@Lancehendrix813 True. When he “changed” that's when the fan girl and fan men frenzy went from a 100 to a trillion-😂😭. Back then being gay wasn't really the ideal thing people looked up to but here Michael had like probably 20 men trying to kiss him at once lol. His look is what partially brought in more people.

@@blacklesnar. come on don't be this naive. From all the people on this earth THE MICHAEL JACKSON has this condition? Didn't it come to your mind that the lighter he got, the more he became the SUPERSTAR and King of Pop we know. He was first called the king of pop in 1989, by that time he was almost completely white. Prince for example was always light skin and he appealed to both black and white audiences. So they thought, lets make this guy also light skin/white. It sells better. The same with Beyonce. This fucking world is racist as heck. White sells better. You cant change that.

@@DjIceCnS You can't be serious... Michael Jackson had vitiligo. The autopsy confirms it, pictures confirm it, his family confirms, his friends confirmed it. Hell, even the BS liars from Leaving Neverland confirmed it in their fake "documentary." If you're denying the fact that he had vitiligo, then you're lost. Besides, Michael made the greatest selling new jack swing album, and, in my opinion, is largely responsible for why hip hop and black artists have a global appeal today. Michael was a proud black man.

I agree, I'm not sure why he waited for so long to publicly explain it, by the time he did all the pigmentation had already gone
@user-mm9uy9uh4i2 жыл бұрын
@@PonzWasTaken Maybe because he was embarrassed and wasn't ready to say anything? Maybe he was waiting for the controversy to die down? Michael Jackson always looked handsome anyways, I think he looked better in the late 80s and the early/late 90s. I crushed on Michael Jackson in the later years, he was always a gorgeous man but to be truthful people only really started complimenting on his looks alot when he made it to the Bad era, Dangerous era, and the era's after that. He became more of a sex figure as well. Even though all this controversy was going on, it seemed like he got praised more and judged less on his physical appearance. Second, the controversy probably didn't bother Michael when it first started. He has been through literal hell since he was 4-5 years old, so to be honest this was probably just another normal year for him. The simple fact I'm trying to make is that even though he got critized for his skin and the surgeries-He did become more of a sex figure the older he got. Michael didn't have to just face being bullied by the public, he was violated and overly sexualized by the public back then as well-He couldn't even make a speech or preform normally without people flirtatiously whistling at him or making comments. He got backlash, but also got alot of praise as well. The backlash overshadowed that though.
@user-mm9uy9uh4i2 жыл бұрын
Second, when he came out and said he had Viltigo-People and the media didn't really believe him and still attacked him for apparently “wanting to be white". So, to be honest, saying something earlier wouldn't have really made a difference. Back then, “Vitiligo" wasn't either discovered or people barely knew about it-That's specifically why people didn't really believe Michael, back then people weren't sure as to what it was and wasn't even sure if it was a real thing.
@user-mm9uy9uh4i2 жыл бұрын
Third, Michael was probably trying to figure out what was going on himself-Because, like I said before, Viltigo wasn't known or atleast was BARELY known.

I’m a white guy born in 1985. By the time I had first seen Michael Jackson in a video on the TV, he was white (‘92). Loved the song, never heard it again, forgot… By the time I had watched another MJ video, he was again surely white (‘95). Became a fan, bought the HIStory album around the time it was released, then Dangerous and Bad shortly after… They were always playing his new short films on the TV and not the old stuff. HIStory era was all statues, super pale skin, and angry Michael… Digging deeper into his discography, boyyy, was I shocked to see the covers of Thriller and especially Off The Wall next! I thought he was always a white man too! But I’d never, ever thought anything much of it really… I had just thought “oh, well, so he was actually black” and still bought those albums as well, went home, and enjoyed them also from start to finish. But he’ll always be that HIStory-era Michael to me because that’s how I saw him first. My point is this: What the hell is all that fuss about MJ turning white before my time?! So what if he even “wanted to be white”? A lot of people basically just “wanna be black” by going to tan salons or laying under the Sun for hours. Even as a child, I had instantly thought of that, thinking of countless white people I’d see on the beaches in summer. Anybody may wanna be something else. Nobody has to conform to your personal standards! Final word: People are petty, judgmental, and obsessive… And all-around wack!
@BUDOKAIultimate36 жыл бұрын
Lol these comments...most of yall probably didnt grow up during J5 Michael or OFF the Wall Michael, so you dont see the issue/fuss with MJ appearing white all of a sudden on a debut album that follows his/THE biggest selling album of all times, so thus; BIG expectations. Look, I love MJ and always will, and I personally think he still looked good in the Bad era, but the fact is this people; When you have been in the public eye since 6 years old looking straight up BLACK/browned skinned with afro and all during the 70s black power era, then 20+ years later, you appear looking like a Caucasian man...how the hell do you think people are gonna react?? Not EVERYBODY is gonna say "he's gorgeous" or "he's hot". Alot people are gonna be like "what the hell??" "Why is he white??" "What the hell happened to his skin??" Even if its just for a moment they think that, then go right to listening to the album. Some people r not gonna favor it (particularly his black audience, since that was his main audience for a time) Like the guy said and I ultimately think thats ONE of the reasons Bad did not do as well(sales wise) as Thriller despite having more number one hits from the album than any other album at the time. Another reason is most likely because he or his name atleast, started doing/being involved in some (what alot consider to be)"abnormal things/behavior"; (Elephant man bones, hyperbaric chamber, Bubbles, etc). I suppose buying the Beatles catalogue may have rubbed some people the wrong way, ? (I personally could care less about that though, as it was a good investment). But buying the beatles catalogue, and being bigger than Elvis?? White people of that time must have been losing their minds at the thought of a black man being THAT huge, lol so they set out to get MJ no doubt, with ironically things MJ himself already set in place. Back to topic though, Personally I absolutely adore Bad and the entirety of the Bad era of MJ, but I can definitely understand peoples discomfort with a black guy who they grew up with now all of a sudden looking like a white guy.

ULTIMATEbudokai3 he still didn't look white here more like mixed or latino even
@BUDOKAIultimate36 жыл бұрын
I understand and I agree alittle, he does look latino-ish during Bad. I'd say he looked 'mixed' during 85' pre Bad era, post Thriller era. The "We are the World"/'Captain EO" time period. But thats not the point. Point is, he no longer looked Black, after 25+ years(at the time) of him looking black. Yea, people are gonna be like WTF???
@danielvelaswuez71976 жыл бұрын
ULTIMATEbudokai3 true. In 93 is when he gets that full Caucasian skin tone with the red lipstick... I think if the pigmentation of his skin didn't change due to vitiligo he would have sold more records after thriller (not saying he would top it) and he would have had less people think he was a child molester... all that ruined his legacy. He would have probably outsold Elvis and at least tied with him or heck tie with the beatles... but he's Still the 3rd best selling artist.

If you think white people would 'lose their minds' cos he bought the Beatles catalogue or was bigger than Elvis i don't think you've met many white people. The orignal BAD album cover, Michael's complexion is Brown. I read in a article that Michael HATED the edited version (out of fear for the backlash he would receive from the media) and wanted to stick with the orignal cover. Some of you are getting a lil bit too offended in the comments. I was an MJ fan. My Mom is a fan and that's how I became of fan. BUT you have to understand that MJ was changing drastically before our eyes during this time so this was a NATURAL reaction. On top of that he didn't tell the world he had a skin condition either so people didn't know what to think. Remember the off the wall era wasn't that long ago in 1987 so to see him go from looking like he did in 1979/1980 til how he looked in 1987 was a drastic change. Let's also keep in mind the people who grew up with Mike since he was in the jackson 5. MJ didn't tell the world about his skin disease until 1993 but imo he should've did it earlier because by the time 1993 came around, people still didn't believe him. Plus the cleft in his chin he put in and the multiple nose jobs. Y'all have to understand it was a CRAZY TIME

People think about looks they often do so only in regards to society's standards. What looks are in regards to society's standards and what they are individually is different. There is no wrong look as long as it doesn't display hate or break laws. There are only relative "wrong" looks. Lol man, the "michael jackson we used to know" snippet, he's already half as dark as he had been and is using a lot of makeup. Pretty much the entire victory tour his skin was appearing lighter, sometimes darker depending on the stage lights and such. Somehow people didn't really notice all that much, but his skin was basically as light as bad era at that point. And the album cover for Bad makes him look a lot lighter than he generally did around then. Compare the thriller performance in Japan during the bad tour with some victory tour performances, and he actually looks even darker than most of the victory tour.

I think people noticed but it was more table talk at the time among black folks. The mainstream public caught wind of it after the release of bad and that’s when it became endless controversy. People also probably knew during victory that it could just be make up. Many black stars used lighter foundation at the time. It wasn’t that unusual. The Bad album wasn’t just “make up” anymore. It wasn't until my mom went to the record store and saw the Bad cover and she was shocked. She couldn't believe that was him. She thought he turned into a lightskin Puerto rican. It was especially shocking because OFF The Wall era really wasn't that long ago in '87 & to see his appearance drastically change like that was something crazy. You are right it was a natural reaction espcially since MJ did not tell the public of his skin condition and how many nose jobs he had and his new cleft chin. The Bad era is when the public started to turn on Mike. I'm a fan and so is my Mom who told me all about him during the 80s but these young fans have no idea how controversial he was. Tbh, the new look and era disappointed a lot of people during that time. It shocked the world that the soft black artist with the magical Thriller album wearing 80s cloths now looked like a tough rock guy with rock pop music, where his skin looked mixed color. Anyways, the bad album is amazing, and his look looks fire

Mike really did bring some unnecessary negative attention his way due to some of his actions. And we as fans need to be realistic about that. Had Mike just been straight up about his vitiligo it might’ve saved much more controversy in the future. I think Mike stayed quiet intentionally thinking it would be an additional allure to his mysterious persona. It’s crazy to think how all of this snowballed against him later down the line. I feel bad for him because at the end of the day he still never deserved to treated so horribly.
@xoxo200002 жыл бұрын
Agree. All of his negative press was his fault IMO. Especially in the early 2000s. He planted the stories about sleeping in a chamber and the elephant man's bones. After getting accused of molestation in 93 he continuously had kids over after it looked really bad. His narcissism in the history era showing himself as statue's and portraying himself as a Christ like figure. Him dangling his baby off the balcony. I loved MJ when I was younger but he really did purposely turn his life into a circus. I think a lot of his stans/fans tend to victimize him but about 80% of his negative press was because of him. I no longer make excuses for the guy. I just listen to his music now and try to remember the good days when it was all about the music and not about what scandal he would put himself into next.
@Phillyhippie2152 жыл бұрын
@@xoxo20000 I couldn’t agree more as well. The history era had many cringe moments all that you mentioned I completely with. Somehow Mike thought adopting a narcissistic approach would somehow put him in good standing with the general public. Which only made things worse. The most jaw dropping cringe moment for me will always be the interviews where he says “it’s ok to share your bed with children” as a “40 year old man”. It was at this moment I had to come to the realization, Mike was his own worst enemy. Even though the Stan in me understood he may had good intentions. The realist in me said “Mike you just encouraged REAL child predators all over the world to rationalize that it’s ok to sleep in bed with children” the way my gut hit the floor at that moment, I’ll never forget. How could Mike be so insensitive to children who are prayed on and victims of sexual child abuse? Is he that selfish and intent on trying to cause controversy? And don’t get me started with the baby dangling situation 🤦🏽🙄. It was at that moment I said the same thing. I’m just gonna enjoy his music, and no longer try to fight so hard as a Stan to defend him. If people talk shit, they just talk shit. I don’t care anymore 🤷🏽 Mike would just have to defend himself however he sees fit.

I became a fan in 87, so I remember all of this talk about his skin, and if he's 'wacko' etc. To me it was shocking when I saw the OFF THE WALL cover as a child. That's him?? And I thought plastic surgery involved the use of plastic, lol. The transformation that I started to see after the release of Bad was the feminisation of his appearance, and the transition from a tanned skintone to bleach white. I thought 'why couldn't he stick with the bad look?' But he almost felt like his transformation was nature taking course, that's what he said.
