Years later, the plaintiff says the defendant turned his life around and became a pastor. However, the plaintiff is suing the defendant because she sent the defendant bus fare to attend her mother’s funeral, but the defendant failed to show up. The defendant insists he did everything he could to attend the funeral, and he’s countersuing for defamation of character.

I lost my mom to breast cancer in 2012. She had just turned 50, I was 24 yrs old and my younger brother was 13. Truly feel for her cause it still feels like yesterday for me. My mom’s 61st birthday was yesterday as well. 💛

If he does not have $100 to come eulogize a funeral. typically people do not get paid until after their services. And he did not have $50 to even make the trip. In order for a defamation suit to prevail, it's not enough for the statements about the claimant to be negative, embarrassing, or damaging to his reputation. He must also prove that the statement was false. If the lady publicly posted that she gave him money for a service that he didn't deliver, then she didn't spread any falsehoods about him. He freely admitted to the very thing she accused him of. Therefore, he has no case for defamation.

I can't blame her for suing him out principle. $100? Could of just said he can't make it, returned the money and avoided all of this. He needs a job. Or, a better one. I wish her the best. That's a tough experience to go through.
