Goddamn right he would have. I can't speak for the British Army (I'm sure it's very similar to ours, though) but in the US Army, he'd have gotten his ass handed to him. While the US military did away with corporal punishment (I think in an all volunteer military they shouldn't waste time and effort trying to make every recruit into a soldier; it's easier and better for everyone to just get rid of the ones with the "Conscript Syndrome"). On the other hand, they should be able to use corporal punishment (and whatever else necessary) in programs such as this.

I was in the regulars for 17 years, I did time in jail, and I went on to serve on the Regimental Police Staff as a corporal and later as the Provost Sergeant. I don't know anyone, including me, who wasn't broken in jail. This whining little fuck nugget would have been destroyed in the army. If he'd have gobbed off at me like that he'd have had his arse handed to him. I didn't watch much of this programme because it's pathetic. I do remember one episode where one little scumbag had to carry a dustbin round for an hour and the narrator said, "This may seem harsh by todays standards.......". I thought what's fucking harsh about that?

It put you in your place, it programmed you to do as you're told, when you're told. The sad thing was that the lefty snowflakes got involved and insisted that it was terribly nasty to the poor little babies joining the army. That had a detrimental effect on the people going to battalions.

They did that one time in season 1 with the normal Lads army, when 3 said they had shaved while they didnt, lying to the platoon commander. the beasted them between the section buildings so everyone could see it and only stopped when one of them broke down crying.

@@matthewjones9565 I've been given to understand the beasting and screaming also has to do with mentally preparing people for extreme stress, such as when the enemy is blasting you with high explosives, poison gas, human wave charges, snipers, the kitchen sink, and fuck knows what else.

Idk how long ago but this has changed, 8 years ago beasting is something that would rarely happen to you more than twice, first time was easy 2nd time fucked you up physically for days, because you'd be training but under more physical duress due to the beasting than most of your unit. I think they finally realised if you beast people to breaking point, you get the machine you want serving, but that person is fucked up permenantly.
