No, this is not an April Fools joke, I had to take down the other version and re-edit it further because it got claimed (if this version does too, I'll just leave it up). This episode was first released in June 2014. Unlike a lot of the older episodes I've re-uploaded, I had the original source files on hand, so this episode is now presented in HD (the original Blip version was not). This episode loses about 1m 18s from it's original, mostly from the film clips, although there have also been reductions to dragging sentences, and in one instance I used an alternate take. This was coming off the end of my "shouty" phase, where I was trying to sound a bit normal, but I understand if it still sounds a little coarse. Feel free to re-post your comments.

Sucks to hear about that but glad that the review is up. I had a thought recently that maybe the reason that videos are being pulled like this is because the people don't like the commenters more than the actual review. Its just a thought I had though and it maybe due to a more serious matter. Anyways, keep up the good work, love the editing.

Its more likely that the process is automated and/or the movies right belong to a a company which just claims all of its property wholesale. While I don't want to defend the frivolous way in which a lot of owners of intellectual property deal with situations like this, it can be, from what i remember, be difficult for some companies in certain nations to defend their rights to a property if they let even single possible infringement slip since it creates precedence.

The only way you could have a second movie of The Lawnmower Man with Jobe in it could had been: 1- Jobe is "uploaded" into another person that has amnesia: this results on this person slowly having the same powers and brain power of Jobe but he could had to struggle with Jobe itself to not have the entire control of his/her person because he could ended up like some sort of split personality disorder where the second personality has superpowers. 2- Jobe is still inside the internet but trying to find the way to control and re-shape cyberspace and the analog world to his own image: it still makes the ending of the first movie relevant and expands upon the concept of a being that started as a simple mortal and became godlike by adquiring the powers to change reality at its own will, this makes for a more wacky and crazy premise yes but the first had some glimmers of this with the whole Virtual Bees and that Golden Jobe gigant head so why not amp up the crazy factor even more? 3- Jobe does obtain world domination and changes everything to his own version of "reality" but he is still trapped into a Virtual Reality simulation and none of the things that happend in the first movie are real at all: could be that you see in the sequel Jobe conquering the world and you have this dystopian future like in this movie, where people formed some kind of resistance to fight against the corrupt cyber-god and in the end when this resistance thinks that has the upper hand Jobe wipes them out but in reality he didnt even conquered the world but was one hell of an advanced VR simulation created by the doctor of the first movie to contain Jobe from reaching more and more computers and mainframes, leading him into a false sense of achivement, since he is a virutal construct and not a human anymore this program can manipulate his memory so he doesnt even know when the simulation begins and when it ends also it can even re-arrange it into a point where Jobe didnt knew it was a simulation and then restart it all over again without even knowing about previous loops. THERE HOLLYWOOD!!! 3 fucking premises that are quite sucky and stupid yeah but AT LEAST you can have some sort of link with the first one and also have some sense of what the hell is going on in the movie, it wasnt all that hard so why you didnt THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BEFORE SHOVING A POINTLESS SEQUEL?!

It's astounding how contrived and asinine the franchise became. They could've had The Matrix, but instead they got...this. Would've been more interesting if Jobe just remained in cyberspace and used his existing powers to mess with the real world. I'm guessing they decided to "resurrect" Jobe to justify replacing Jeff Fahey, but why??? Were we just supposed to forget that Jobe's body was very much dead, long before the lab explosion?! My goodness, Jim Carrey totally owes his career to Matt Frewer. Max Headroom was Jim Carrey before Jim Carrey became Jim Carrey.
@swampdonkey4919
@swampdonkey4919 Жыл бұрын
They clearly set it up for a sequel; I don't understand why they couldn't just follow through on the original storyline of Jobe being trapped in cyberspace and being able to influence the outside world. If they wanted to save on CGI, they could've just put any actor in max headroom make-up and run him through filters like they did in the TV show. They could've distorted the actor's voice to sound more like the original cyber-Jobe.

The movie itself was just a remake of Flowers for Algernon (Charly), but with elements of Tron and World On a Wire. We should also remember that it predated The Matrix by about 7 years. There was so much potential there, and honestly I didn't think the movie was bad; it just didn't age well. Maybe it is time for a reboot. Haha, reboot. I see what you do there.

@@peppermillers8361 I like it too, actually. To me, dated is part of its charm, but I wouldn't expect many other people to feel the same way, so there ya go. When I say "didn't age well", I was talking mostly about the story and its handling of VR, which is a very real thing that many of us see in our everyday lives. My guess is any kid with a smartphone would laugh at the movie and be unable to suspend enough disbelief to enjoy it. Other movies like Tron and The Matrix--while also dated--were better at selling the idea of becoming "stuck in virtual reality". Todays generation would watch the movie and think,, "OK, he shot himself up with drugs, put on a VR helmet, and strapped himself into a carnival ride....so how exactly does that transport him inside a computer?" Regardless, I still wouldn't mind seeing what else they could do with the Jobe character.

Y'know, it bugs me because I think the only really interesting thing about Lawnmower Man was the relationship between Jobe and Peter, and both these movies just totally squander that potential. For the longest time I thought it was just a fever dream I had.

Matt Frewer _can_ play villainy. I point to his guest spot in the two-art Season 2 finale of _Da Vinci's Inquest._ He does get affable, but it plays well into the juxtaposition of the sexually violent nature of his character. Even his hamming is very well restrained. Also, I think the reason this film didn't receive the notoriety is because the first _Highlander_ wasn't just a commercial success, but also quickly became a cult phenomenon. I mean, there's a reason why they made sequel after increasingly terrible sequel, a TV series that lasted six season with its own spin-off, an animated series that somehow lasted two seasons, and continuations and universe expansions in various other media. As much as it was a box office success, I doubt audiences wanted to see a _Lawnmower Man_ franchise, so when they saw there was a sequel, they collectively said "I'll pass."

The opening of this movie reminds me of the opening to Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. They both open with footage from the previous film (or in the case with PA, footage from 3 movies ago), but completely contradict what actually happened. The only difference is that with The Ghost Dimension, they *_DELIBERATELY_* altered a specific part of the original footage to make it seem like it happened in the ending of 3, even though it didn't, then "seamlessly," transition to new footage with blatantly obvious replacements for the child actors who don't even match with the original footage. That movie pisses me off and makes the fourth movie look good.

Either that, or a bunch of fans would be like trying to defend it and make up bullshit excuses to defend the movie's lack of any sense whatsoever, and then say something like "it's allegorical, you just didn't look deeply into it," or "its a not-real movie about people using VR tech in the future, so it doesn't have to make sense," or "you shouldn't expect realism in a sci-fi movie" or "it doesn't spit in the face of the ending, because the events of the last one still happened in it," or some other excuses that do not hold any water. And if you try to challenge them, they'll just bash the heck out of you saying that you are not a true fan or that you don't understand true art, or what not. Was that theme at the end a blatant ripoff of Jurassic Park? I saw this film on VHS sometime in the late 90's, and also was shocked at how cheap it looked. I am surprised it was released in theaters, with effects that feel like a 90's TV movie. 17:15 - It's the other way around. Jim Carrey stole his shtick from Frewer's Max Headroom character. 32:33 - Are you implying that there are GOOD Highlander sequels? The high-tech "future" and they don't even have flat screen monitors? I can't believe this wasn't direct to video.

great review the first time I ever watched the lawn mower man I think I was watching Wilmore Man part 2 and when he said this is starting to piss me off my parents heard it and the reason why they heard it was because I was riding in a car and I had headphones plugged into the television and I leaned back and the headphone came unplugged and right as a lawn mower man said this is starting to piss me off and started swearing they made me take out the tape and never let me finish watching it but this shows me how stupid this movie truly was and I'm glad I never finished it as a child course I was mesmerized by cuz it was a bunch of bright lights and explosions in it

This movie recently got a (surprisingly great) HD restoration and Blu-Ray release. At least in the US. The opening being in a weird, small 4:3 box that only takes up a fraction of the screen is present on it... Since most modern HD restorations use the original negatives, all I can assume is that it's some weird, indecipherable stylistic choice, as it leaps to proper widescreen once the movie jumps forward in time. (Maybe it's small because it's a flashback? I dunno.) And yes... before anyone asks, I did buy the Blu-Ray, hahahahaha. I'm a glutton for awful movies (same reason I proudly have _Super Mario Bros_ and _Manos_ on my shelf). Plus I had the first one and I'm a bit OCD about owning every movie in a franchise, even if the sequels are terrible. Hate it when I'm missing one entry.

I first saw this movie well over 20 years ago, I saw posters of it at a movie theater which had the tagline "Jobe's War." I rented it from the video store and thought it was boring as hell. I much preferred the original film. But as far as this sequel, I can only assume Matt Frewer needed the money. I would prefer watching somebody mowing the lawn for 90 minutes.

I actually watched this sequel last night. Was totally disgusted. How the heck could they release this piece of trash movie to be the sequel of a epic movie? The storyline itself does not follow from the sequel correctly. In part 1 of the Lawnmower Man, it showed clearly how Jobe managed to upload his consciousness into the system, thus causing his body to rot. This was way before the bombs went off. There was a scene when Dr. Lawrence Angelo removes the helmet from Jobe's head and it showed a head that was rotten away. So how the F@#$ can Part 2 show a version of Jobe's body that "Survived" the explosion whereas he technically died before the explosion. Plus the Jobe inside the system made it out, seconds before the explosion after finding a back door. I'm a fan of the classics and the Lawnmower Man 1 is an epic movie in the time it was released. "Part 2" was not a worthy sequel in any way.

William Petersen Exactly thats what i said when i saw this garbage in theaters in 1996. Nothing makes sence and the screen writter and director took thier own liberties to make thier own version of the film at any expense while trying to cash in off of the success of the first film. But agreed my friend this film is rubbish and virtually unwatchable. Stick with the first one, I believe that the story of the first one said enough alone with out having to further the progress with this garbage.

There's no way we would be living in such a Jetsons-esque world in just 6 years (in 1998, no less) after the first movie, set in 1992. At least BTTF2's futuristic setting in the first half envisioned the future, 26 years after when the movie was made, not just 6 years. So LM2 should've been set in 2012. That would've made way more sense. What the hell!?
