Bad reviews can hurt a movies legs. If it's a tentpole blockbuster, fans will show up but will they return? That's how movies hit these ridiculous numbers.

Take Ghostbusters for example, critics like it and even with the fresh reviews people didn't go see it. The only ones that saw the movie are the ones that went for the curiosity factor and the response for that movie was wait till it comes on DVD.

When a movie is over hyped we expect gold, when we see the same clips in a movie we become a costumed to. When we love characters that we havn't seen in a live action people will surport. I personaly think they should be greatful of makin millions and millions. The thought of that amount of money is crazy considering a small percent of people will actualy see that amount in our lifes. Sure critics expect certain things to play out and fans expect to be entertained at any cost. As long as a movie makes profit they wont stop, if the fans stop then they stop and the critics can go back to thier papers and thier online blogs and complain about spilled milk.

Can someone help me understand this insane overspending? The movie cost $175 million, but with promotional costs they have to make $700-800 to break EVEN? So say it makes $1 billion. That's a profit of $200 million. That is such an unnecessary risk for a small profit. I think it's time studios learned form Deadpool. $60 mill, with a $700 mill gross.

The movie cost $175 million because of the re-shoots, a lot of scenes were re-shotted before the final release. The original version was like BvS, had a darker tone but people hated BvS. So they were forced to re-shoot half of the movie.

Suicide squad was great to me I always love a suicide squad story even in justice league the cartoon I enjoy and I don't expect people like roger ebert to every know anything about suicide squad to begin with did he even watch assault on arkham no he didn't so why the hell did he even watch this and put his two cents in any real dc fan would tell truthfully if it was everything they expected or not dont listen to these so called professional critics when it comes to comics because obviously they don't know shit

I think they have a different definition of 'gobs of money' than the studios (or anyone who has taken an economics class) do. Batman v Superman didn't MAKE any money. It lost money. You don't have to make a comparison just to see that BvS didn't make a profit. You can't just look at box office gross, compare it to the production budget and if it is higher, assume that a movie made money. Studios see approximately half of the domestic gross and a third of the worldwide gross. Also, in addition to the production budget, the average worldwide marketing budget for one of these 'blockbuster' movies is $150 million. If you want to do comparisons though, even at an audience score of 71% Suicide Squad is still in the lower end of scores when you look at recent super hero films. Man of Steel had a 75% and audiences are very split on whether or not it was a good movie. The only MCU film to get an audience score as low as 71% was The Incredible Hulk.

where you involved with the production of BVS? how do you know how much it cost or what the studio gets? Simply put, you dont! NO movie has been made yet that makes almost 900 mil in boxoffice and doesnt make a profit. NO movie. Not counting endorsements for BVS which was higher than Man of steel which made almost 200 mil in endorsements. was the returns disappointing? thats a different question. It should have made a billion. In that regard they have to be disappointed.

Yes, I absolutely do know how much the movies cost and how much the studios get. I can google... and read. Maybe you should try it. It is simply common knowledge that studios get approximately half of domestic receipts and a third of worldwide on average. BvS cost over 250 in production costs and the average worldwide marketing cost for blockbusters is 150 million. Forbes and Variety confirm the 250 million number and there are many sources that put the total budget around 400-410 million. Both BvS and MoS lost money on the box office. Did they make up the difference in merchandising and endorsements, very likely but it doesn't change the fact that the movie itself lost money.

+Shawn Smith You dont know how much this movie cost and different outlets have different figures. based on google civil war barely turned a profit as it needed a billion to break even. I dont believe that either. Wb themselves have said the quoted break even numbers are too high. I would go with that as its coming from someone with a face than some journalist trying to get clicks.

Feel free to post sources. From what I can see you're just making stuff up off the top of your head. My sources are corroborated. Even you alleged 200 million in product placement for MoS seems to be an imaginary figure. 170 million is the only figure I see anywhere. I do know what the movie cost. That is public knowledge. Different outlets do have different figures but there are averages which are easily accessable if you bother to read anything that isn't Warner spin. Civil War barely made a profit off of box office... yes, you're correct. Point being that it did, in fact, make a profit. Product placement and merchandising just adds to that, but its not starting off in a hole.

+Shawn Smith thats just it I read different outlets but also understand those outlets are all guessing too. They are not hard figures that is why they vary wildly. I understand that so I dont speak like its hard facts. It seems to me if warner released a statement saying they made a loss you would jump all over that but because its not as bad as people like you would like you want to ignore it. To each his own.

okay suicide squad defenders, let's have some fun... ....logically defend Enchantress's belly dancing.

There's no defending it. Enchantress dancing made no sense. But defend Star lord dancing was able to distract Ronan the accuser and ultimately defeat him. Both movies were good by the way .

Roberto DM aahahahaha okay dude take this W. but seriously, i think the difference between the two is in the characters and the consistency of the character within the context of the movie. while both seem to come out of nowhere (and both are hillarious). Starlord's in my opinion seems natural because of his character and the way the movie sets him up as this renegade goof. while enchantress is set up as this ancient being with malicious intent, and kinda setup to be menacing. That's why i was confused why this menacing villain was gyrating and looking ridiculous while delivering lines in a menacing tone. but it did make me lmao.

because..... MAGIC!!! haha I mean flowy movements with her hands would be appropriate and show that she' s really conjuring up the magic thing.. but yeah.. I loved SS but found the belly dancing awkward at times

magical, sexy and self awareness. I was watching that scene and I jst laughed so hard that she was like 'do ya lyk some of this witch hotness?' it's like Croc's line about being beautiful. ya'll bash BvS for being too serious and when a witch belly dances u gonna bash too? DC can't catch a break huh? Its a 686 yr old witch whose heart is being poked at but NOOOOOO!!! she can't dance!!!
