Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Barry is a really nice guy but his videos leave the impression that he is a disaster going somewhere to happen. He is either conning us, he is just a bad sailor, or he is the only sailor that encounters, bad weather, shallow water, equipment that quits at the wrong time, water in the bilge, electronic problems, etc, etc, etc. My bet he is just a bad sailor but he doesn't know it. But I like his blues harp music, so I will keep watching, hoping he is safe.

Just returned to cold Ottawa, Canada from a month on a cat in The Bahamas - some similar winds from a nor'easter, shallow anchorages, but lovely isolated beaches and the odd shark. Great video as always!

Great editing & use of the drone. The drone gives the viewer a batter handle on the surroundings of that island. I've been watching since you went to buy the boat & sailed it home... the ending theme music always takes me back many years to another time altogether.

Looks so awesome except for the crocks but the people are so friendly and the water looks amazing. Then the wind comes up. I just spent my worst night sailing as my new batteries all died which killed my engine, my bilge pumps, including my emergency pump, my fridge, my stove/oven, my lights, my windless etc. then the big gale came in and all hell broke loose! What a day I’m so glad to be back at the docks! Fair winds to you, love your channel!

Waiting for the next adventure! Watching you working on the boat. Finally you can tell off those snooty marina sailors. It's easy to have a pristine boat if you don't spend most of your time sailing. And with a call, get the yard to tackle most of the jobs. The real point of hauling out is to fix everything that has broken during the time out at sea. Hope that the weather improved for you.

Barry, don’t know what you’re doing down there in Oz. Weather seems grim and the beer, other victuals and everything else is eye- wateringly expensive .. come up to SE Asia, balmy weather, gorgeous scenery and everything a fraction of the price of Oz … by the way, from where you and I are from, it’s ’rubbish’ not ‘garbage’ …. next thing you’ll be looking into someone’s back garden and calling it a yard !! He's discussed that exclusively... in a video a 11months ago when he couldn't get his engine running... all alone in the middle of no where, when some locals passed by in a boat. "Alone and broken in the reefs" : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fL6XZcx427umpac.html. 15:10 "At least weeks since I've talked to another human being and um I kind of wanted to make contact with those guys over there...." It's very profound what Barry says. It left an impression on me.

You probably know this anyway Barry but I will mention it anyway. You show a warning sign for ticks and then show running your hand through long grass. This is likely where the ticks climb to waiting to hitch hike on someone. If they are like Canadian ticks you should be OK for about 24 hours before they chow down on you. Great videos!
