@@Ktaurus26 I wouldn't go as far as saying that that's what would've happened, but he certainly was a contender, and had the #40 been as good as it was w/ McMurray, but had Marlin at the wheel, we would've seen one of the greatest 3-way championship battles ever in Homestead in 2002, I believe. Tony Stewart might've still won, but he would've had more than Mark Martin to worry about if Sterling never got hurt. Honestly, Tony should've been thankful that Matt Kenseth was really inconsistent in 2002, and Jeff Gordon blew an engine at Talladega, because 2002 was looking at being one of the most competitive seasons as far as the championship goes. Instead, it kept playing a new verse of, "Another One Bites the Dust."

John Boy It’s not that Robbie wanted out, he left mainly because his mother was very sick at the time. When he left, he decided to pass the torch to Steve Letarte to take over as crew chief since Steve had been with the #24 team for 10 years then. As a matter of fact, Robbie made the decision well before the 2005 season that if he left the team because of his ill mom, Steve Letarte would immediately take over.

Good video. 👍🏻 However, this video proves the hypocrisy of the Chase/Playoff System. Jeff Gordon won 3 times in the first 26 races & finished top 15 in points in the “regular season”. In today’s standards (2014 till now), Jeff Gordon would have been one of the top seeds in NASCAR’s Playoffs; yet in 2005 he wasn’t eligible due to not finishing in the top 10 in points. That’s why the Chase/Playoff Format is so despised & ridiculed since its inception. There is no consistency in determining who is playoff eligible and how a champion is crowned. By Jeff Gordon & Winston Cup standards, this was a bad season. By today’s Playoff Standards, Jeff Gordon should have been a title contender in 2005.

Well I was obviously talking about it and it has been a bad season I’ve been waiting for because I knew how bad it was even though he won 4 races including the spring race at Martinsville where he came back from 3 laps down to win it. But 9 DNFs and just overall terrible performance from the car really says it all along with the horrific and mediocre runs which really led to problems and just terrible finishes. So thank you so much for taking note on Jeff Gordon’s 2005 season. I really appreciate it so much.

I've been watching a lot of races from this year, does anybody know why for some of the races his left side number was slanted forward instead of the usual backwards?

@@chada75 There are 2 seasons that can relate to Jeff Gordon's 2005 season Tony Stewart scored 5 wins in 2006 But the season was a shell of his 2005 championship season Same thing can be said for Kyle Busch's 2009 season Even though he won 4 races He fell off a cliff compared to his 2008 season

I don't think that this was what NASCAR intended when they introduced the Chase for the Cup with Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. not making it. Also, towards the end Robbie Loomis was on the way out and was rumored and later confirmed to be headed back to Petty Enterprises in an effort to revitalize the Petty team since other Hendrick, most of his checks came from the Petties.
