#Badflower vocalist #JoshKatz hopes the songs on their new album OK, I'M SICK will make victims of abuse "feel understood." #Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez recently spoke with the frontman about some of the themes on the record, from mental health to death to sexual abuse.

Listening to 'Daddy' was the first time I'd heard my own early life experiences reflected in music so unabashedly. Makes me feel less ashamed.

I related a lot to ghost. Reminded me of how I felt all those years ago. And it made me reflect on how I got better.

As far as triggers go, my mom and friends told me to not listen to it since its so raw but I mentioned it too my therapist and he encouraged me to listen to it and similar stuff when I feel very alone and depressed. What ppl dont get is that listening to it makes me feel like my depression is valid and someone understands...and that is amazing, howevee listening to happy by pharrell will make me feel awful. I remember being in the psych ward with a tv with no remote 24/7 watching music videos and they played happy over and over... It was torture I swear...

Making it relatable, in the days of the highlight real we call social media it helps you get through the day to realize you're not the only one going through hardships like this .

My favorite quote that I've ever heard from an interview from Josh was "Sure, every guitar riff has been played, but every word; every lyric hasn't been spoken yet."

I recently discovered this band when they played with The Wrecks (my friend's band) and fell in love instantly. They have something real to say with their lyrics and I hope that never changes.

I agree with Josh's perspective on trigger warnings. At the end of the day, I have to deal with and work through my issues myself. And the only things I've ever found to be triggering are graphic depictions of self harm, anyways. Which they didn't do with their music video for Ghost. I've always found music to be cathartic and validating because it expresses what I can't put words to or am too afraid to talk about or it helps me to feel everything, let it out, and stay safe.

They're performing in my city in 2 hours. I've been counting down for weeks. But tickets are sold out. So instead I'm laying in bed trying to figure out if I can convince my mom to drive me 8 hours to see the nearest show after that when she doesnt even like the band. Says they're disturbing.

Am obsessed with this album , there are very few albums in my life where i love all the songs and this is one of them, also i hope music comes back around to this hard edge rock BUT with badflower tellings of the truth, they have the instrumentals, the voice the lyrics but all the songs have truth to them not just catchy hooks. Can’t wait to see them live .

Daddy really does make me feel understood, how sexual abuse can fuck you up & make you feel dependent on your abuser bc they say they hurt you out of love & being young it’s impossible to know better if you haven’t had a healthy experience ever.. does it trigger me?! it made me cry, which is healthy. art should trigger people.

They played the living hell out of their first single about "cutting their wrists" on local radio for about 2 months. I was so sick of it, that I wanted to cut my own. We have lost too many great artist as of the last few years. I am tired of the whiney " I want to kill myself" rock. Man up, and lets get back to work.

The 90s had the same as of today's. I mean, grunge, alternative metal, emo? Those had similar topics that are seen today.

Ok hold on. I’m a fan of 90’s music and I listen to a lot of Green Day, but Badflower is insanely good. For examples from the 90’s, Nirvana. They have good songs, but they’re honestly not anywhere close to being the best band. Badflower is completely different than any rock from the last 20 to 30 years.
