The Aston Martin 'wings' have a design flaw which can cause them to become damaged. Here I show you how to overcome this and make your new badges look good for longer. Also I show how you can use a similar technique to create a better fit between any part that fits to the body.

Great idea with applications to many other classic cars. Thank you!

Those original A-M mirrors are actually (shock horror!) Mercedes items (much cheaper from M-B than AM) so maybe they can be excused from fitting zer Englisch Auto? ;-) The filler thing is a great tip! Thanks.

Another great video, thanks Andrew! Your findings can be applied to any DB era Aston, as the DB4 body badges also suffer from the poor fitment. Perhaps post on the AMOC Forum? Any video with old Basil Fawlty in it has my gratitude. So sorry about him, he's from Barcelona...

I would have used a flexible epoxy that would be 0.2mm slightly proud being the way it slightly expands in the middle. This would provide strength around the posts and make is very slightly proud and hence will also protect the paint. I do really like your video and method. These ideas I can used on my Jensen Interceptor. Best of all I Iove your Aston. Your idea for the mirror is very clever and I will def do this, as these mirrors never really fit. Please what make and model of mirror are you using. Cheers 🙂

That would work. What is great is to think about these things and find a solution that works for you and not just to just accept the standard way if you think you can see a better way! 😊

The mirrors are Mercedes Benz W114/W115. Go to a MB Classic seller not AM.

Brilliant help, in those days did Mercedes have driver and passenger glass mirrors, so if I am in UK, do I need to buy UK mirrors or will European mirrors work in the UK RHD please.@@AndrewDay_Aston-Martin-DBS5126

Hahaha and i thought you will do videon how to repair the bage???? Once i foot the dosh for a new bage it will last 20 years anyway.

That is the point. When (or if) you buy a new badge it will not last 20 years because of the design flaw of it being hollow and it being stressed by the pre-tension in the fixing bolts and that stress leading to cracking the enamel which becomes more brittle with age. All you have to do is put just a little too much torque on a fixing nut when fitting and 'crack', it's ruined. Also, in any event, I am planning on this car looking good for a lot more than 20 years!
