Hi Andrew, very informative. Can you advise where you got the Traffolyte panel made. Also where did you get the rear view mirror from, can you post a link please.
@AndrewDay_Aston-Martin-DBS5126

For Traffolyte I used John Walton Engraving www.traffolytelabels.co.uk/contact/ I have also experimented with lacquering with 2k lacquer over the top and the result is fantastic! just like piano black in modern cars (and pianos of course). The rear view mirror is from aliexpress www.aliexpress.com/item/32805690206.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.258.30381802XKXSG6 and is just £66 + vat.

Didn't mention the steering wheel and the silly red stripe. Surely on tarmac there's no problem finding where the wheels should be pointing? An irritating Mercedes affectation nicked from the US. Lovely colour and boot spoiler. One hell of a restomod. Well done.

Perhaps I should have mentioned although there is not time to mention everything - The leather wheel has been recovered in black (without any marker) and what you see is just protection to keep the new leather pristine while I work on the car. The red marker is there simply so I know when the wheels are pointing ahead and to help with moving the car around the workshop when needed.

Love the colour! Personally I wouldn't go for leather on the dashtop as it will be vulnerable to the effects of heat and sunlight through the front screen, which is of course the same reason manufacturers shied away and used vinyl. As far as the lower panels are concerned, matching the seats is the best approach to do but you might want to think about the areas where they are most vulnerable to shoe marks and scrapes and use black vinyl or carpet instead.

I did say I won't be using leather on the dash-top but vinyl instead. The colour is a Chrysler paint as used on the Crossfire and always receives compliments.

Yes, this is a Mercedes Benz item for W114 & W115 ref 0001-114 for left side. I got my pair from Classic Mercedes Parts Belgium (€204.86 [the pair] in 2019) but in the US there is Authentic Classics, Staten Island (from whom I got the plastic gaskets). Classic Aston Martin dealers source from classic MB dealers and then double the price (of course)!

Note* After you put tape around the threads of the mounting bolts (3:20), just check that the bolts still pass through the holes in the door. If you put too much tape on you will have a sticky problem when it comes to presenting the mirror and the bolts won't go into the door!

Hahaha and i thought you will do videon how to repair the bage???? Once i foot the dosh for a new bage it will last 20 years anyway.
@AndrewVanDay
@AndrewVanDay 4 ай бұрын
That is the point. When (or if) you buy a new badge it will not last 20 years because of the design flaw of it being hollow and it being stressed by the pre-tension in the fixing bolts and that stress leading to cracking the enamel which becomes more brittle with age. All you have to do is put just a little too much torque on a fixing nut when fitting and 'crack', it's ruined. Also, in any event, I am planning on this car looking good for a lot more than 20 years!

I would have used a flexible epoxy that would be 0.2mm slightly proud being the way it slightly expands in the middle. This would provide strength around the posts and make is very slightly proud and hence will also protect the paint. I do really like your video and method. These ideas I can used on my Jensen Interceptor. Best of all I Iove your Aston. Your idea for the mirror is very clever and I will def do this, as these mirrors never really fit. Please what make and model of mirror are you using. Cheers 🙂

A stupefying and incredible amount of work. You would have to be the most dedicated DBS owner in the world. Seems like a sensible engine swap, and the rest of the modifications subjective. One question though, if you will not have a spare, why do you need an electric jack? ;) Terrific job. I am all for the pursuit of the kind of quality that you are aiming for. Fishoilene in the boxed sections of the bodywork. Best of luck for this monumental project that obviously and admirably does not have venality as its raison d'etre. Thanks for the video.
