Join Derek on a trip to Florida to view the local avian wildlife. While searching around Jupiter Florida, he encounters a variety of different birds that can found at feeders and in the ponds and canals including the Wood Stork, Mottled Duck, Roseate Spoonbill, and more.

I'm lucky to wake up every AM & see S. Fla.'s birds, inc. roseate spoonbills. I love photographing them w/my Nikon, too:) Spoonbills are quite shy, seeming to have a "genetic memory" of when they were hunted for feathers for women's hats in the 1800s. Cf. w/wood storks, who almost mimic cats in their curiosity. We had 3 of them over for Thanksgiving dinner--too funny!

Man, those Spoonbills are awesome! The Ibis too. We've had a Glossy Ibis pop up here in Eastern Canada, which is not too common, hoping to go see it soon. Great informative video!

I am visiting Florida this month and took a trip to the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, a park located in Delray Beach. Others in my group spotted a Roseate Spoonbill, but I just missed it. Plenty of other species of birds, iguanas , lizards and turtles, so definitely worth the visit.

We saw the spoonbills for the first time hanging out in a tree at Gator Land in FL 🤣🤣. If you’re ever in the Disneyworld area during the spring/nesting season, head to Gatorland. There are so many nesting Herons, Egrets and Wood Storks. It was magical.

Someone recently told me the Egrets are really bold in Disneyworld and they will follow you around. Not sure if that's true though

That’s ironic, when traveling to Kenya hoping to see all these exotic birds the first bird to greet me also happened to be a house sparrow. Also I just want to add that it is wonderful to see your enthusiasm for the birds and other wildlife and not just another ✅ in your guide

The House Sparrow is sadly declining here in the UK.Hope its fortunes turn, because whenever i go past a hedge full of sparrows,it always makes me smile to hear their simple tweeting. Been great seeing Little Egret showing up more often here. I'd so love to go birdwatching in Florida

People say I'm crazy, but a number of years ago in my neighborhood in southeast Michigan near some ponds by the road I caught a glimpse of a weird weird looking bird that was NOT a heron or a Sandhill crane. After I went home with the glimpse still pretty fresh I looked up birds it might have been and closest I came was a spoonbill. Either that or a pelican. I thought what the heck is one of those doing up here? Recently like last year I caught an article on internet about people seeing spoonbills at some other location in Michigan, and how sometimes they get caught up in weird weather and get blown way off course. Hmm, maybe I DID see one that day.

I know they've gotten spoonbills in other midwestern states such as Minnesota so it isn't out of the realm of possibility!

I live in El Paso TX and I believe nearly all of the one million white winged doves live in my neighborhood. I’m glad to hear you call them doves because I’ve had people argue with me that they are a type of pigeon. We used to feed them on our back patio and a pair would show up that were just slightly bigger and had a more grayish white all over. We would refer to them as grandma and grandpa 😊

A very nice video, thanks for sharing it. We are coming to Florida next April from the UK which will be our third visit. I’m very excited about seeing some new species in the fabulous sites around your beautiful reserves. We saw Roseate Spoonbills last time in the Everglades so I look forward to hopefully seeing those beauties again.

The Roseate Spoonbill was the last new bird I twitched in my home state of Illinois. I was able to find this quite pale individual. Ironically this was when I was moving to Florida. I also unsuccessfully chased a Fulvous Whistling-Duck a bit further south in the state the same day. This was in June of 2003.

A pale Roseate with a white head would be a juvenile, they sometimes also have dark brown blotches on their flight feather tips.
