Here's the new Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X Limited Edition review. For a $40 upcharge, we're getting a detachable cable, more comfortable headband, and the Stellar 45 drivers that have better detail and are easier to drive. This makes one of my favorite closed backs even better.

@@salemkhamis6788 im kind of in the same boat, love the build and sturdiness of the Pro X's but I also love how light the 650's are, I'm planning on an upgrade so I don't know if I should follow the Beyer path (the 1990's probably) or the Sennys path (the 800S) I know, price difference and all but still.

Mine is the Philips Fidelio X2HR paired with a Soundblaster G3. I still have it and have exactly 1 day to return these. Actually I only a have a couple of hours. What you think? Should I "upgrade"?! Any recommendation to the X2HR? I like these a lot. bassy and tons of fun. Even crazier with the EQ in the amp. It's all a budget target, got these x2hr under a hundred and the dac just for thirty. One thing I do not particularly understand is the open back perks, I don't seem to notice significant differences between open and closed back.

I have the 770 and 1770 and love them. Closed back just does it for me and I changed the earpads out with some dekoni ones to get the profile I wanted. Worth keeping in mind that changing pads could be a game changer and even going from one velour to another could have a pretty big impact on sound plus comfort.

I'm actually running the DT 990 Pros with 250OHM for my music production and they are a solid choice! I plan on buying the DT 770 Pro X LE's because I hear they are slightly better than the 990 Pro's. As for production I tend to produce tons of EDM such as Trance, Dubstep, and Progressive House, so lots of bass heavy music. Someone had recommended me the Audio Technicas over the DT 990's, but nah. The velour ear muffs feel amazing and they don't warm up your ear to the point you are sweating, and with a quiet place and having them as open-back headphones, they are amazing for mixing and mastering.

@@idfcdean You can easily just plug and play but they benefit from having more power like most headphones. I use mine with a small dongle dac/amp that drives my IEM's. So they don't need much power. Directly out of my Macbook Pro they are loud at 70-80% so they have some headroom even off a source.

I bought it long ago, the first pair lasted for almost 2 years but I had to use warranty due to some plastic breaking and got send a new pair that lasted even more than that, in the end it broke too plus the earpads go so worn it really made was painful to use. It got really warm too, with both stock and leather pads. In the end I decided to go for ATH M50X and couldn't be happier. it's really worn after a couple years but the build quality is much better while sound is really good too. Both are great choices tbh.

I've been enjoying my DT 1990 Pros for almost 4 years now and the only issues I've had are that the service kit cable (that connects the drivers together) has finally shorted out. However, I've got a cable replacement on the way and it's a very simple fix that you can do by yourself without having to do any soldering. The only reason the cable is even shorted is due to one of my pets getting caught under my desk, snagging the cable and yanking my headphones off my head onto the floor abruptly a couple of times. I expect to keep using these cans for at least another decade without having to service them much if at all.

Two things... If I needed to replace my 770 Pro, I would grab these without hesitation based on your review. Heck, it was your review that turned me onto the 770 Pros in the first place. ;) The second thing, however, is that BD has stopped selling the replacement headband cushions that fit these. I know because the "leather" recently started peeling off in one spot on mine and the only available replacements were from 3rd party suppliers, and they're the exact same or poorer "quality" than the original. I recommend, and am currently using, a removable/washable cover that goes over the headband cushion to keep it from flaking/peeling away. Thanks for the killer review as always!

Never had open backs before and really want to try them but worried that the 770s will be better quality than the 990s. My 1990 pros ended up failing in one ear, would anyone recommend these as a (cheaper) alternative to rebuying some 1990s? They were far too heavy for 3+ hour usage.

They are not 40€/$ more than the standard. The normal 770 pro are on a street price of 130-140€, 60-70€ more is a big difference

@@badseedtechwhat would be an equivalent closed back to the Maxwell but wired? Not big on gaming headsets but having tried the Maxwells, they were very good so just wondering.
I switched back to AMD... and I have no regrets.
