TDN Rising Star, Breeders' Cup Juvenile and 2-Year-Old Champion Corniche will stand his first season at Ashford Stud this year. We talk to Ashford's Adrian Wallace and his trainer Bob Baffert about their high expectations for the versatile young sire.

The dam is a lot more important than the sire for producing stakes winners. If you take the best of the best sires & pair them with the best raced mares available, you are still looking at a 93% chance that the progeny will never win a stakes race. I look at the dam handicapping maiden races & came across a mare that had produced 5 stakes winners out of 7 foals. That is the insanely good genetics we are all looking for. The best sires like Tapit & Megdalia del Oro & so forth aren't breeding with 10k claimers, yet the genes sought rarely show up on the racetrack. It's all about finding a blue hen mare & then pairing her with a decent sires, that's where the money spent is justified.

Exactly. His detractors know he don't dope, they just say it as they want him gone as he wins too much. Same thing happened with the Patriots when they were dominating. Jealousy is intoxicating to losers and we love in the age of social media And the hater era. Of he were mediocre no one cares. All his overages all trainers have, Asmussen has like 3x more, but he gets treated differently.

Are you kidding? He’s had multiple horses fail drug tests after races, and a lot of 2 year olds just die while in his barn.

He beat everything put in front of him as a 2yr old. He wasn't "unraced at 3." He sat cooling his heels at Winstar while the Baffert thing played out. Eventually he was sent to Pletcher who had no idea what to do with him and only raced once in August, shedding a frog and then being retired. Had Corniche not gotten stuck with Baffert we'd probably still be talking about him. Brilliant 2 yr old who's career got derailed. He's a Quality Road though and you can be certain that his book is full. Got to see him at Ashford. Beautiful horse.

he got sick, and lost his goat trainer corniche will be a top 5 sire just look at the length of his stride (pause at about 1 minute in)

Pletcher is so mediocre and over rated. Bob is so far superior it ain't funny. Anything Pletcher touches gets hurt or dies. He's the real one all this anger should be pointed at if anything, but he is protected by his friends in the easy coast media and racing politics.

They must be watching him with a fine tooth comb these days.So what's everyone's excuse why he is still winning.I know everyone will say he gets the best stock.He gets the best stock because he is great at what he does.Maybe he used something they couldn't detect in certain jurisdictions, Maybe he knew when to juice his horses to give them that extra boost on certain big race days. This all could be true.I want to know why is he still winning if they are watching him do closely now? Is it the superior stock and the fact that he knows what to do with it or something else?

Think about this for a moment. Baffert has had tons and tons and TONS of the best well bred blueblood male horses that money could buy in his stables over the years. An overwhelming majority of them were sent to the front setting blazing fractions(mixing it up) and yet, managed to somehow re-break in the strecth, same as Jorge Navarro's horses had always done. Now here is the question. How many of Baffert's well bred blueblood juiced champions ever went on to have any kind of serious success as a stallion?
