Loadsa great best ofs and greatest hits still available cheap in charity shops and elsewhere. It's nice to be nostalgic about the 70s specifically i was very young but can remenisce about what i just missed out on too.

Couldn't agree more! There are plenty more Best Of collections I should pick up but often ignore when I’m out record shopping.

Another good one. The Lindisfarne album is one of my favourites. Found Dingly Dell at a market stall in Birkenhead, from there collected all their albums and all Alan Hulls, including Squire, also the other band He was in "Radiator", and all the Jack the Lad albums. Also one by Ray Jackson. All that from just finding one album.

I’ve yet to try Alan Hull’s solo albums, so I need to rectify that. Very good songwriter.

I love multi artist comps but generally don't go for single artist best ofs etc. I often feel that such comps don't contain the material that I would like to see - in the past therefore I used to make up my own best-ofs on cassette (initially) or CDr. But some of my first records were comps which I still have and still adore and listen to. You showed, as always some excellent comps. Love The Chocolate Watchband - I have a comp by them too but a different one. Nice to see Newcastle heroes Lindisfarne mentioned too, bringing back great memories of their Christmas concerts when I was a student in the city. The Prunes & The Move - wonderful stuff! Unfortunately I must have experienced some sort of glitch in the space-time continuum or entered an alternative dimension half way through as I could swear I saw you show a Dollar album - surely not. I've got my annual check-up at the docs in a week or so - I'll have to mention it just in case such an episode is something to worry about 🤣. Have a great week... Pete PS is it the usual address to send my postal order for my super shades?

Hi Pete. Ah yes, the golden age of making mixtapes and later burning cdrs. I’ve many friends to thank for introducing me to some great music via those formats. I never went to any of the Lindisfarne concerts at the City Hall but wish I had. I’ve yet to try any of the Alan Hull solo albums. What an excellent songwriter. I’m afraid the Dollar album was real! Maybe I should own up and do a guilty pleasures video. I must confess I also have a Middle of the Road best of 😂 The super shades will make you the envy of all the Cumbrian fashionista.

I have a Chocolate Watch Band reissue with some very extensive liner notes. Apparently the band only made a few records with their actual line-up, then their manager got the rights to their name and started putting different line-ups together that had nothing to do with the original group. Bit of a shady history, but a great sound. I recently picked up the vinyl reissue of 'Shazam' by The Move, really nice reissue actually. Bev Bevan hated Curly! Thanks John.

It's true about the Chocolate Watch Band, James. One of their albums I have, The Inner Mystique, has one side of Stonesy garage tunes (by the band.) The other side is baroque orchestral psych (not played by the band.) Both good in their own way!

Those were very interesting greatest hits albums from a lot of groups I have no idea about. I love greatest hits, I have thought about doing one of these also just haven’t got around to it. I’ll take two pairs of the cool sunglasses.

You’ll need two pairs of sunglasses now that summer is nearly here. You and your wife will be the envy of your neighbourhood!

Thank you so, so much for the lovely acknowledgment in your video - sincerely appreciated 👍🏻 You not only have a great ear for music, but also for accents! I am indeed North West of England born and bred, and have lived between Liverpool and Manchester my whole life. My accent very much points towards the latter of the two cities, but I’m blessed to be located between two absolute powerhouses when it comes to music. I am so pleased that my video prompted you to record your own Best Of rundown, which I enjoyed immensely. Your Chocolate Watchband compilation looks superb and I’ve always enjoyed Donovan a great deal. Thanks again and best wishes, Christian

Hi Christian. Glad I got the accent right. I’m from Liverpool originally but have lived for most of my adult life in the north east. Looking forward to more of your videos. Take care, John.

Why don’t you video a short example of the frug dance you mentioned

My problem with Duane Eddy is too much sax. That Donovan Greatest Hits sold a lot in the US. I always thought it would have been better if it would have been in chronological order. Or at least not one psych song followed by a Dylan type song and then repeated again.
@baggyhi-fi8628Ай бұрын
I think there is a Donovan comp which is just psych material but maybe that was just a CD release.

I have the Chocolate watch band different cover and label. Why would you need the Left banke you should have both lps. ditto with the original Electric prunes. I enjoy your videos please no jazz.
@baggyhi-fi8628Ай бұрын
Thanks Frank. I have a few Electric Prunes albums but sometimes just want to hear a best of collection. I do need more Marmalade but never see any originals on vinyl.
