Sparring like this , with more "conventional" martial arts are what people with an MMA superiority complex and a TRADITIONAL martial arts Inferiority complex fear Kung fu will make full circle Once we maintain sparring that includes exchanges like this The learning curve will be met

I love this. This is the most fantastic sparring video I have every seen, clear and visible hand work with excellent and innovative camera work, friendly and skillful sparring (not too soft, not too hard, not timid). The martial arts community needs more videos like this.

This video like all your other videos was amazing and educational. What a treat to see my two favorite martial styles of all time performed at such a high level by both of you. I love watching playful exchanges like this one while demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and respect towards one another. Thank you for this gift, I was enjoying watching this so much I only wish it went on a bit longer.

Amazing!!!! (this sparring series is awesome, you'll have to find a Xingyi, or taiji guy next - that would be epic) - I have always wonder how to use bagua in a small space like an alleyway. Was really interesting to see (cos I think wing chun had the advantage in the tight area. (I wonder if after the spear hands are parried, you could 're-parry' his arms and pull his arm, with a low kick to his legs or groin - might work?)
@davidwilliams48374 жыл бұрын
Sweet video. Great angle. You are very fluid. Interesting contrast in styles; we don't get to see this often. Yet there are similarities. He is using Tan Sao quite well against your spear hands. It seems like his focus on center allowed him to be "there" a bit more quickly because he did not have to move as far. But you employed some interesting tactics to disrupt him. That said, his Wu hand lowers and needs to be further out to disrupt your longer attacks. He can also take advantage when your elbows flare or move high. You have a few chances to "roll" your attacks toward him or move "offline" upon contact [even in that small space]. Well done.
@EvergreenAcupuncture3 жыл бұрын
Very nice. I liked that you narrated and had stop and go and slo-mo. Helps a lot in breaking things down. Since there were not many attempts at grabbing/controlling an arm, I assume you just agreed to limit to strikes.

Excellent to watch! My main style is wing chun, but we practice bagua xingyi and taiji as part of our training (excellent footwork and power generation) and we spar allot with mma like gloves. Some observations: Wing chun guy is good, but lowers his Wu Sau (back hand) when he moves that makes him vulnerable for your longer rounder bagua moves (more sparring experience needed?) . On the other hand you raise you elbows high in you bagua (raising you centre of mass and leaving lower gates open as you experienced) . Wing Chun should attack them (Bong sau best, but also Pak and Fook sau work) and turn your body of centre and attack your outside. Just my experience from allot of sparring with many styles. Keep up the good work!

This is a great exercise in hand fighting and controlling the range just before a clinch, but i dont know that sparring is the right term for it. This looks more directly applicable to stabdup grappling than to striking since very few strikes are actually being thrown

I'd like to see more trained martial artist fight with untrained street fighters. That I think would give us a better idea of how effective a style could be. Two trained fighters can kinda cancel each other out.

@@warfox777 okay thats a friendly fight beetwen two "similar" martial arts. try fighting an aggressive fighter with 100% speed, strenght, pushing you backwards, grappling you and smashing you on the ground, unable to feel pain cause of adrenaline, and actually tryng to hurt you

@@zachariaravenheart I believe what @aleks Srbin is saying is spar with a person giving you something to work for, not trying to hurt you or kill you. but something that will give you enough resistance to say "ok I need to really get in and maintain control" so that when you actually get in a situation, you know how to deal with the intensity.

Why is it impossible to do heavy sparring with bagua?
@warfox7773 жыл бұрын
It's not impossible, but a bit dangerous. We are not really strikers, but standing grapplers. We use breaks of all other movements. So for sparring we just don't use those particular movements. But even when going slowly, I've seen lots of our brothers get their arms broken on accident.

With sticking energy, push hands skills, the ability to subdue an opponent when sinking/relaxing the Qi, is a lost skill that had been a portion of many internal styles. Adam Mizner teaches how to use Qi to subdue your opponent. This skill, in the internal arts, was always the first skill taught. Standing in some pose, using the inward looking process to build the Qi structure. Sun Lu Tang, in his history portion in his books on Bagua and Xing Yi, explains the first teachings he received in Xing Yi. San Ti Shi stance training to develop internal strength, Qi. When Sun Lu Tang's internal energy was satisfactorily present, approximately one year of stance training only, then his teacher began to teach him Five Element Fist.

When you practice bagua the area can be as large or small as you want. such as an open field is fully covered and a meditation cushion has plenty of room. Step on the square don't walk the circle.

Very good video indeed, congrats! I just want to point out however that the Wing Chun guy has significatively less arm reach and that gives some advantage to the bagua guy. Wing Chun seems to have the upper hand here, as expected since the art is much better for fighting in tight environments.

You could have got him quite easily. Mainstream Wing Chun techniques are impossible to work because their instructions are taught wrongly and unscientifically. Watch our videos to see how original, proper and scientific Wing Chun should be. The original Wing Chun should be solid and penetrative. It wasn't not soft like what your friend did there. You could feel that your friend's arms were distorted and the mass or weight wasn't supporting his techniques adequately. (You should feel like his strikes wouldn't really hurt you even if they had landed; and your strikes might clash through this blocks if you had tried harder.)
@jestfullgremblim80022 жыл бұрын
The thing it's that none of them both wanted to create powerful strikes. They are doing a playful, soft sparring session.

@theophilussparks58392 жыл бұрын
You're off balance a lot (give up your center line) and looks form the video as if your hips rotation isn't generating force as you switch form side to side. Your should remember power has to come form somewhere when you strike otherwise your just slapping at your opponent. Beginners at Chi-Sao and push hands always struggle with this, like I did and still do.

I went to see the Shaolin monks on stage many years ago in my town and although they were very acrobatic and flexible, I wasnt really impressed with the martial aspect of what they were demonstrating. For example their strikes and weapons had no intent to actually hit the other person, kind of like two boys playing sword fights where they just hit each others sword for effect. I was very surprised to see these guys at that level do the same thing with their weapons. This is what I am also seeing here, little intent to actually strike each other even though they are sparring. There are a few openings and opportunities presenting themselves but all I see is open palm non-threatening waving.

I've noticed that the big and strong-looking blocks and punches concentrate down when sparring. A lot of movements in forms don't seem to work too well when actually in a fighting situation. You find that out really quickly when sparring.

There's always some goobers like you in the comments section of every martial arts video there is. "That's not real ___". Get off your high horse and stop expecting movie-level choreography. That's why you're let down: your expectations aren't realistic at all. These guys are out there training with a good attitude, doing their best. Have a seat.
